Alfalfa Seed Production In Millard County, Utah As Related To Soil Type, George Whornham
Alfalfa Seed Production In Millard County, Utah As Related To Soil Type, George Whornham
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Alfalfa has a wide range of adaptability as a forage plant, but the areas in which it will produce seed successfully are extremely limited. These sections are confined almost exclusively to the arid or semi-arid regions of the world. In all other areas it is primarily a question of seasonal fitness. The extreme localization may be further emphasized by the fact that within the highest producing counties there are appreciable areas of land not suitable for seed production.
Influence Of Clipping On The Yield Of Forage In Certain Pastures At North Logan, Utah, Newel Washburn
Influence Of Clipping On The Yield Of Forage In Certain Pastures At North Logan, Utah, Newel Washburn
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
"Pasture is the natural food of all domesticated herbivore, especially the ruminant, and the only single feed upon which it can be maintained in health indefinitely."
Pastures rank next to the alfalfa hay crop in total production of forage far livestock in Utah. For approximately five months each year pastures turnish the cheapest supply of feed available for dairy production. Their improvement and utilization to the best advantage as a source of valuable feed in Utah has been overshadowed by the abundance of alfalfa hay with its rich supply of minerals and high quality protein. There is a potentiality of …
A Farm Organization And Management Study In Western Millard County, Utah, George Thomas Blanch
A Farm Organization And Management Study In Western Millard County, Utah, George Thomas Blanch
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Due to the cumulative effect of certain economic factors, the farmers of western Millard County, known as the Delta area, are in unfavorable economic conditions. Many of the farms are heavily mortgaged, taxes and interest in many cases are in arrears for several years, and in general, lack of prosperity in quite evident. The majority of the farm land in this area is within one of four drainage districts. These districts are known as drainage districts No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4. The cost and maintenance of these drainage systems is generally thought to be one of …
A Research Study Of Lamb Feeding In Winter Dry Lots At Monroe, Utah, 1928-29, George R. Henderson
A Research Study Of Lamb Feeding In Winter Dry Lots At Monroe, Utah, 1928-29, George R. Henderson
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
By reason of the topography of the land, Utah is and probably will remain a livestock grazing state. As far as agriculture is concerned over 90 percent of the area is suitable for grazing only. This grazing range is used by cattle and sheep.
Grazing Periods And Forage Production On The National Forests, Arthur W. Sampson, Harry E. Malmsten
Grazing Periods And Forage Production On The National Forests, Arthur W. Sampson, Harry E. Malmsten
Aspen Bibliography
Stockmen in the West have always had confidence in the adequacy of the native forage crop to provide pasturage for their livestock. Indeed, under normal climatic conditions this enormous natural resource has not failed the grazier, except where it has been called upon to meet unreasonable demands. The productivity of the range has declined sharply, however, wherever the requirements of plant growth have been disregarded for many years in succession. Where there has been too early or too frequent and to heavy grazing, undue trampling, or some other unsatisfactory feature of range use, the results have been uniformly bad. Many …
Correlation Studies In Wheat, Joseph Reed
Correlation Studies In Wheat, Joseph Reed
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Considerable work has been done by plant breeders and investigators in the study of individual plant characters, but only a few have attempted to work out correlations between characters in crop plants. One reason for this seems to be, that many investigators have felt that correlation studies were of very little practical value. This attitude was due perhaps to the interpretation given correlation data, especially the nature of the casual agency or agencies to which the correlation was attributed. Most of our plant breeders however, have been too busy working on experiments with single characters and have given little or …
Effect Of Root-Rot Upon Sugar-Beet Seed Production, Louis F. Nuffer
Effect Of Root-Rot Upon Sugar-Beet Seed Production, Louis F. Nuffer
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Due to considerable loss through root-rot of mother beets while in storage during the winter of 1918-1919 the Amalgamated Sugar Company asked advice in regard to planting beets which had decay lesions on them. Would the beets yield seed if planted? How much seed would these beets yield as compared with healthy beets? Would the seed produced be injured by having been grown on decayed beets? It was felt that an experiment carried out with the above questions in view would bring out many facts upon which to base conclusions in answering the questions of the Sugar Company.
Climate And Plant Growth In Certain Vegetative Associations, Arthur W. Sampson
Climate And Plant Growth In Certain Vegetative Associations, Arthur W. Sampson
Aspen Bibliography
The relation of climate to the growth and development of vegetation is of profound importance in both practical and experimental agriculture. It is extremely useful to know the cause of successful growth and establishment, or of partial success or failure, of various species in different plant associations and under widely contrasted climatic conditions. The climatic requirements of various plant types are largely responsible for the results obtained in the case of experimental seedings and plantings of most species. Once the adverse climatic factors are definitely known, failures with plants may be largely avoided by the judicious selection of sites or …
