The Regional Supervisory Council (MPD) functions to oversee and provide guidance on the Notary profession. The role of MPD is crucial in minimizing violations related to the Notary profession, particularly in Depok City. Therefore, it is necessary to examine the role of MPD in addressing violations of the Notary profession in Depok City, based on applicable regulations, as well as the implications of handling various types of violation reports submitted by the public on the performance of MPD in Depok City. This study uses a non-doctrinal method with qualitative empirical data, gathered through interviews and supported by secondary data. The …

In practice, the existence of nominee agreements often raises debates about their validity and legal protection for the parties involved, so nominee agreements should not be used carelessly and notaries play an important role in drafting these agreements. The purpose of this study is to analyze the validity of the deed confirming the agreement to borrow a name made by a Notary and to find out the role and responsibilities of a notary in confirming the agreement to borrow a name (nominee) related to movable property that is detrimental to the parties in the decision of Decision Number 5/Pdt.G/2022/PN Stb …

America’s safety net is failing to protect its most vulnerable citizens from the growing pressures of climate change, according to new research from an Indiana University Maurer School of Law Professor Andrew Hammond.
In a new article forthcoming in the Iowa Law Review, Hammond argues that while policymakers, the press, and the public tend to focus on climate “shocks” like hurricanes and wildfires, millions of Americans face overlooked climate “strains”—the everyday stresses of extreme heat, deteriorating air quality, and failing infrastructure that disproportionately affect low-income Americans.
Hammond’s paper, “Climate Strains and the Safety Net,” found that …

Commissioned Reports, Studies and Public Policy Documents
The Access to Algorithmic Justice project (A2AJ) is an open-source alternative to the Canadian Legal Information Institute (CanLII). At a moment when technology promises to enable new ways of working with law, CanLII is becoming an impediment to the free access of law and access to justice movements because it restricts bulk and programmatic access to Canadian legal data. This means that Canada is staring down a digital divide: wellresourced actors have the best new technological tools and, because CanLII has disclaimed leadership, the public only gets second-rate tools. This article puts CanLII in its larger historical context and shows …

Optimizing The Role Of Notaries In Digital Property Inheritance: A Comparative Legal Analysis, Tjhong Sendrawan, Rosa Agustina, Edmon Makarim, Arman Nefi, Josephine Rus Indra Sapti Ipfelkofer
Indonesia Law Review
One of the provisions in inheritance laws regarding the transfer of digital property after someone's death is a relatively new and evolving area of legal consideration. Inheritance laws were developed long before the widespread adoption of digital property, such as cryptocurrencies, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), online accounts, and other forms of digital property. As a result, existing inheritance laws often lack clear guidance on how to control the legal transfer of these digital assets upon the owner's death. This article aims to analyze the legal concept of digital property to be inherited and to provide solutions for current digital property inheritance …

Reforming The Indian Bar: The Limits Of Technological Solutions, Varsha Aithala, Karthik Suresh

A majority of Indians do not have effective access to legal services, despite the constitutional promise of access to justice. There are two intertwined reasons for this: the unavailability of a sufficient number of good quality lawyers, and the high costs of accessing legal services. The Indian legal profession is highly unequal, with ‘prestige’ being the currency of upward professional mobility. The professional regulator, the Bar Council of India, simply lacks the capacity to regulate quality. As a consequence, clients lack the information to access lawyers, and to understand the outcomes they desire from them, and the fees they have …

Mitigating Ai Bias With Prompt Augmentation, Verónica C. Gonzales

Large-language-model (“LLM”) outputs are inevitably shaped by assumptions, biases, and attitudes rooted in racism and other systemic inequities embedded in the civil-law tradition. This Equity-in-Justice CLE focuses on helping civil legal service providers recognize and work to eliminate biases in generative AI outputs through equity-centered prompt augmentation and engineering. These small, cost-free interventions re-orient LLMs assistance toward fairness, cultural competency, and client-centered outcomes. Participants leave with an action plan for embedding anti-bias safeguards in everyday research, drafting, and client communication tasks.
