Legal Narratives, Theraputic Narratives: The Invisibility And Omnipresence Of Race And Gender, Leslie G. Espinoza
Legal Narratives, Theraputic Narratives: The Invisibility And Omnipresence Of Race And Gender, Leslie G. Espinoza
Michigan Law Review
My first introduction to Denise Gray was through a form. The intake sheet was dated October 17, 1994. The legal problem was straightforward. My introduction to Denise Gray would come much later. I am a clinical law professor. The clinic, Boston College Legal Assistance Bureau, is known as "LAB." I teach students law by supervising them as they represent, usually for the first time, a real person with real problems.
Vampires Anonymous And Critical Race Practice, Robert A. Williams Jr.
Vampires Anonymous And Critical Race Practice, Robert A. Williams Jr.
Michigan Law Review
I can only explain what Vampires Anonymous has done for me by telling my story. I know, stories, particularly autobiographical stories, are currently being dissed by some law professors. Raised in an overly obsessive, objectively neutralized cultural style, they are plain and simple Storyhaters. Their middle to upper class parents had money, a home in the burbs, and nice kids who were going to go on from their fancy grade schools and college preparatory gigs to Harvard/Stanford/Yale - all those types of pricey places where law professors usually come from. These kids were raised to be objective, neutral, neutered, fair, …

Professor! You're back! Rodrigo leaped to his feet and shook my hand fervently. "I heard a rumor you might be coming. What good news! Sit down. Did the authorities give you any trouble?"

Miscellaneous Law School History & Publications
This is the third year of Dicta, the law school's literary journal and a child of the vision of two 1996 graduates, Miles Yanick and Matt Morris. We hope that this creative forum will continue to grow and to flourish, enriching the law school community by offering a spectrum of poetry, fiction, essays, photography, and artwork. The editors faced a difficult task again this year as we again received more material than we could publish. We continued the policy of considering all submissions anonymously. This final product reflects the often conflicting views of the editors who tried to select a …

From "Moral Stupidity" To Professional Responsibility, Thomas D. Eisele
From "Moral Stupidity" To Professional Responsibility, Thomas D. Eisele
Faculty Articles and Other Publications
Within the context-even, the challenge-presented by the first chapter of Seymour Wishman's book, Confessions of a Criminal Lawyer, we symposiasts have been invited to say something about the teaching of courses which in law school go under the titles, "Legal Ethics," "Professional Ethics," or "Professional Responsibility." This last is the
title of a two-credit course that I teach, in what I take to be a fairly traditional form, over the span of a semester at the University of Cincinnati. In this essay, I want to talk about the teaching of such a course; not about how I manage to teach …
Teaching Preventive Law, Robert M. Hardaway
Teaching Preventive Law, Robert M. Hardaway
Sturm College of Law: Faculty Scholarship
Preventive law is practiced by experienced lawyers, many of whom do not recognize the principles of preventive law or practice, but nevertheless practice them instinctively. This has led Professor Edward Dauer to lament that preventive law is a widespread practice desperately in need of supporting theory. In fact, however, due in large measure to the pioneering efforts of Louis M. Brown (who may well be described as the father of the theory of modern preventive law) as well as the efforts of Edward Dauer, a substantial body of theory and scholarly literature now exists in the subject of preventive law. …

Does Law Teaching Have Meaning? Teaching Effectiveness, Gauging Alumni Competence, And The Maccrate Report, Daniel Gordon
Does Law Teaching Have Meaning? Teaching Effectiveness, Gauging Alumni Competence, And The Maccrate Report, Daniel Gordon
Fordham Urban Law Journal
This Article examines law school teaching evaluation techniques and probes the use of a law school alumni survey to measure teaching effectiveness. The Article focuses on a survey of St. Thomas University School of Law graduates. The Article also examines teaching effectiveness in the context of the MacCrate Report and the so called gaps between legal education and law practice it identified. The Article argues that the MacCrate Report was incomplete in its coverage of teaching effectiveness, and that much of the discord it created can be overcome by focusing on teaching effectiveness.

An Agnostic's Bible Contract And Related Obligation: Theory, Doctrine, And Practice, 3d Edition By Robert S. Summers And Robert A. Hillman, Sidney W. Delong
An Agnostic's Bible Contract And Related Obligation: Theory, Doctrine, And Practice, 3d Edition By Robert S. Summers And Robert A. Hillman, Sidney W. Delong
Seattle University Law Review
A casebook's warranties appear in its preface. In their Preface to the First Edition, the authors of Contract and Related Obligation (CRO) undertook to do the following: (1) acquaint the student with the lawyer's role in contractual relations; (2) stress the “private-made” character of much of what we call law; (3) expose students to many different theories about contract; (4) renew the waning practice of “dialectical” teaching by using largely unedited principal cases, and by eschewing summaries and textual notes; (5) reveal the many extra-legal sources of law, including moral, political, and economic reasoning; and (6) offer more general insights …
Of Painters, Sculptors, Quill Pens And Microscopes: Teaching Legal Writers In The Electronic Age, Lucia A. Silecchia
Of Painters, Sculptors, Quill Pens And Microscopes: Teaching Legal Writers In The Electronic Age, Lucia A. Silecchia
Scholarly Articles
No longer do lawyers write most of their work “by hand.” Instead, most legal writing is now done on word processors. This has the potential to change the way lawyers write in a fundamental way. Because word processors make it easier to write more than was possible “by hand” modern legal writers are more akin to sculptors than painters. Such writers must create finely-tuned written products from the large quantities of material that can now be inputted into a document and then edited and whittled away to create a finished product.
This Article examines how the arrival of the electronic …
