Quantitative Risk Analysis For Elections, George A. Buras
Quantitative Risk Analysis For Elections, George A. Buras
LSU Master's Theses
This paper examines risk analysis and risk management in the field of election security. The purpose of this paper is not to enumerate risks to election security or explain how they might be mitigated, but rather to understand and improve how we measure and communicate those risks.
First, I contextualize election security risks by establishing what it means for an election to be secure and I give an overview of the types of events that might threaten election security. Then, I explore different methods that we can use to model electoral risks. Existing resources for managing electoral risks use qualitative …
Using Probabilistic Risk Assessment In Drilling R&D Projects, Jacob Matthew Smith
Using Probabilistic Risk Assessment In Drilling R&D Projects, Jacob Matthew Smith
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Well drilling, since its inception, has always carried an intrinsic quantity of risk. Economically, the evolution of data analytics and the tools available to operators provide the opportunity to transform the lessons learned from previous well drilling endeavors into bottom line improvements. Additionally, methods for forecasting and risk management of potential trouble areas have significantly advanced due to the abundance of empirical data from prior drilling operations. Probabilistic Risk Assessment is a viable method through which risk can be tracked and mitigated in project management. Coupled with this data, the usage of Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) provides a quantified, trackable …
Safety And Risk Management Strategies For Achieving Regulatory Compliance In Construction Projects, Danny Rodriguez
Safety And Risk Management Strategies For Achieving Regulatory Compliance In Construction Projects, Danny Rodriguez
Harrisburg University Dissertations and Theses
The architectural and construction business places great importance on safety and regulatory compliance because of its inherent high-risk nature and strict legal obligations. The prevalence of accidents and infractions at construction sites underscores the imperative for enhanced safety management systems and compliance with rules, notwithstanding substantial endeavors. The main objective of this study is to examine the many elements that impact the effectiveness of safety management, adherence to regulations, and the development of a safety culture, with the ultimate purpose of improving safety outcomes on construction sites.
The issue statement pertains to the difficulties associated with safety management and compliance …
Mitigating Uncertainty: Analyzing The Role Of Risk Management In The Construction Industry, Mike Nwafor
Mitigating Uncertainty: Analyzing The Role Of Risk Management In The Construction Industry, Mike Nwafor
Harrisburg University Dissertations and Theses
The construction industry, inherently dynamic and complex, faces a myriad of uncertainties that can significantly impact project outcomes. In this context, effective risk management emerges as a critical component in ensuring project success and sustainability. This abstract explores the role of risk management in the construction industry, highlighting its multifaceted impact on project timelines, costs, and overall quality. Risk management in construction includes detecting, assessing, and managing possible hazards and opportunities throughout the project's life cycle. It includes a proactive approach to anticipating, analyzing, and responding to uncertainties driven by factors such as design modifications, material shortages, labor concerns, weather …
A Framework For Adaptive Capacity In Complex Systems, Abdulrahman Alfaqiri
A Framework For Adaptive Capacity In Complex Systems, Abdulrahman Alfaqiri
Engineering Management & Systems Engineering Theses & Dissertations
Complex systems are characterized by their high level of inter-connectivity, ambiguity, and emergence. Therefore, a failure in one element of a system (e.g. cyber layer) due to external or internal disturbances can lead to a cascade effect that may influence all elements of the system. Consequently, the complex system will not be able to perform its functional performance. Threats related to complex systems are very dynamic, fast, complex and damage can be severe. Thus, to respond to the dynamic and unpredictable nature of these threats, complex systems need to be highly adaptive to survive and thrive in the face of …
Measuring Risks Of Interdependencies In Enterprise Systems: An Application To Ghana’S Salt Enterprise, Yaw Mensah
Measuring Risks Of Interdependencies In Enterprise Systems: An Application To Ghana’S Salt Enterprise, Yaw Mensah
Engineering Management & Systems Engineering Theses & Dissertations
This dissertation describes the use of Functional Dependency Network Analysis (FDNA) for modeling risks resulting from dependencies among elements of enterprise systems with application to salt processing enterprise in Ghana. FDNA was developed to model dependencies among members of enterprise systems by highlighting two dimensions of dependency: strength and criticality. Nonetheless, the concepts and analytics for these two dimensions of dependencies needed further development and generalization in the context of project management and systems development in developing countries.
Managing risks within the interdependency in enterprise systems through integration will help improve global economic growth. Coherent theory for enterprise integration must …
A Systems-Based Framework For Design And Analysis Of An R And D Structure, Polinpapilinho F. Katina, Charles B. Keating, Luna M. Magpili
A Systems-Based Framework For Design And Analysis Of An R And D Structure, Polinpapilinho F. Katina, Charles B. Keating, Luna M. Magpili
Engineering Management & Systems Engineering Faculty Publications
A critical challenge for managerial effectiveness and competitive advantage in research and development (R and D) organizations is developing an appropriate structural configuration. However, in finding an appropriate structural configuration, R and D managers are faced with unprecedented levels of uncertainty, ambiguity, and accelerating complexity, coupled with demands for increased productivity. This paper develops a systems-based framework to support rigorous design, analysis, and transformation of the structure for R and D organizations. The framework development includes: (1) a review of the literature for the nature and role of the structure in R and D management; (2) setting of the R …

Nothing Recedes Like Success - Risk Analysis And The Organizational Amplification Of Risks, William R. Freudenburg
Nothing Recedes Like Success - Risk Analysis And The Organizational Amplification Of Risks, William R. Freudenburg
RISK: Health, Safety & Environment (1990-2002)
Professor Freudenburg believes that there is room for improvement in Risk analysis, particularly in drawing on systematic studies of human behavior in the calculation of real, empirical probabilities of failure. The need is argued to be especially acute where technological Risks are associated with low expected probabilities of failure and are managed by human organizations for extended periods of time. This permits complacency to set in.
