Evaluation Of Heavy Metal Bioaccumulation And Growth In Hemp From Chicken Manure, Vermicompost, And Wastewater Sludge With Biochar And Health Risk Assessment, Chutiphan Sangsoda

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) has become an economically valuable crop with a wide range of benefits. To promote more sustainable agricultural systems, the use of recycled substrates has increasingly replaced traditional fertilizers. However, substrates such as dry chicken manure, vermicompost, and wastewater sludge (WWS) combined with biochar often contain heavy metal contaminants, which may pose health risks through exposure to hemp. This study investigated three cultivars Rosella, Superwoman S1, and Red Robin over a 120-day period. The objectives were: (1) to compare the effects of dry chicken manure, vermicompost, and wastewater sludge (with and without biochar) on soil nutrient quality …

Interaction Between Extreme Temperature Events And Air Pollution On Mortality In Thailand : A Nationwide Time Series Study, Phichet Khunthong Jan 2025

Interaction Between Extreme Temperature Events And Air Pollution On Mortality In Thailand : A Nationwide Time Series Study, Phichet Khunthong

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Climate change has increased the frequency and intensity of extreme temperature events (ETEs; heat and cold waves), concomitantly affecting PM2.5 fluctuation. However, limited research has investigated the interaction of ETEs and PM2.5 on mortality, particularly in tropical regions where the interaction could influence differently from cold countries. A two-stage time-series using distributed lag non-linear models was employed to estimate region-specific relative risks and 95% confidence intervals (RRs and 95% CIs) of ETEs and PM2.5 on daily cardiovascular and respiratory mortality. The relative excess risk due to interaction (RERI) was examined to quantify additive effects. Cold waves had the greatest effect …

Risk Assessment Of Microplastics Contamination In Soil And Leachate From Different Ages Of Landfill, Panuwat Koonmee

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Landfills were used for the disposal of waste materials, but they could contribute to microplastic (MP) pollution. MPs waste had been released in landfills into the surrounding environment, contaminating soil and leachate collection pond. Although there were many reports that MPs could generate in leachate and soil samples from the landfill, it exists many blanks for the evolution of physical and chemical characteristics of MPs with different landfill age. In order to address the question of changing in the abundances and characteristics of MPs in different ages of landfill as potential sources of contamination and the efficacy of existing landfill …

Relationship Between Microbial And Chemical Risk After Chlorination Of Domestic Wastewater For Discharge And Reclamation, Rotsathon Plumsut

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Disinfection is crucial for protecting public health during wastewater reuse. Chlorination is a widely used disinfection method, but it also leads to the formation of disinfection byproducts (DBPs), which can pose environmental and health risks. Among these DBPs, haloacetonitriles (HANs), particularly dichloroacetonitrile (DCAN), are of significant concern due to their toxicity. This research investigated the relationship between microbiological and chemical risks associated with chlorination in secondary and tertiary wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in Bangkok. The study found that secondary wastewater (9.0-14.0 mg/L) required up to 10 times higher initial chlorine levels to achieve the same norovirus reduction levels (3-5 log …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Respirable crystalline silica (RCS) has been classified as a human carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). In Thailand, household sandstone workers were one of the most susceptible occupational groups to silicosis. However, a lack of current information about their work patterns and job-related exposures to respirable crystalline silica could hinder the success of tracking and surveillance programs. This study was conducted to explore working characteristics and patterns, and to evaluate the work diary data in the estimation of RCS exposure and health risk among household sandstone workers. All data were collected from a work diary record …
