Modeling Of A Spray Assisted Natural Draft Cooling Tower, Kaunde K
Modeling Of A Spray Assisted Natural Draft Cooling Tower, Kaunde K
Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)
Cooling towers are one of the largest heat and mass transfer devices that are in common use. A novel type of cooling tower has been proposed in which air flow rate into the tower is drawn by ejector action of sprays instead of fans as is done in conventional mechanical forced or induced draft cooling towers. This novel design offers the potential of saving the energy cost for driving the fan. The paper presents mathematical models for momentum transfer which is the driving force causing the entrainment of air. Also the heat transfer model for co-current flow of liquid and …

Engineering Technology Faculty Publications
[Introduction] Two-phase flow is very common in industrial processes and its applications were already in use in ages as remote as the era of Archimedes. At the present time, many industrial processes rely on multi-phase phenomena for the transport of energy and mass or for material processing. During the last century, the nuclear, chemical and petroleum industries propelled intense research activity in the area. Their efforts have been aimed at the demystification of the mechanisms taking place during this complex flow situation.

In this paper, a load flow solution for the Medium Voltage (MV) three-phase radial distribution in delta-delta (Δ–Δ) connected network supplying different line topologies such as three phase, phase to phase and single-wire earth return (SWER) networks is presented. The general voltage related network equations are developed using Kirchhoff’s voltage and current laws. Development of a solution to the load flow analysis applying the developed general voltage related network equations is proposed in order to evaluate the network voltage profile. Various numbers of arrays are developed for the identification of the network under study. The proposed method is a new …
The Need For Pfc Abatement In Semiconductor Manufacturing, Mohsen Manesh, Brian Kendrick
The Need For Pfc Abatement In Semiconductor Manufacturing, Mohsen Manesh, Brian Kendrick
Inquiry: The University of Arkansas Undergraduate Research Journal
Perfluorocompounds (PFCs) are highly stable chemical compounds used in two integral steps of semiconductor manufacturing: chemical vapor deposition (CVD) chambers and etch chambers. Unfortunately, PFCs are also greenhouse gases linked to global warming. This, combined with their long atmospheric lifetimes gives them global warming potentials much higher than C02 the principal greenhouse gas. In a series of voluntary agreements with the United States and other national governments, the worldwide semiconductor industry has set a goal of reducing PFC emissions to 90% of their 1995 levels. To reach this goal, researchers have explored four main methods of reduction: substitution of PFCs, …

Dual Versus Single Spark Plug: A Critique, I Mshoro
Dual Versus Single Spark Plug: A Critique, I Mshoro
Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)
Dual spark plugs are occasionally employed on certain modern Spark lg- nited (S') engines, viz lean burn engines. Their benefit has generally been noticed in the operating conditions whenfuel-air mixture is very lean, or when a larger proportion of EGR has been employed, or during the part load conditions and so on. An extensive literature survey has indi- cared an interesting spectrum of reasons for gains due to the dual spark plug. A consistent explanation is found to be missing which can describe the behaviour of the engines with single versus dual spark plugs There are quite "few researchers who …

Engineer Education: Disciplinary Preferences In The Faculty Of Engineering University Of Dar Es Salaam, S Mosha
Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)
Most practising engineers can hardly recall the days they had to make up their minds on whether engineering was their chosen career. This decision may have been approached with ignorance and very high expectations. Later after registering in a Faculty of Engineering the freshman was given a chance to choose a department; sometimes this had already been done for him by his sponsors so all he had to do was to walk into the preselected department.
A generation later, University entrants are faced with a similar predicament. This paper high-lights the procedures involved and proceeds to recommend the necessary fundamental …
