Journal of Electrochemistry

An optical wave guide sensing method was proposed for monitoring corrosion of metal in outdoors steel structures. Replacing the cladding of wave-guide with metal film in a particular location, the method takes the metal film as the corrosion sensitive film. A Fe-C alloy film was electroplated onto the inner sied of vessel to form the corrosion sensitive film. The structure of the Fe-C alloy film was studied by XRD, EDX and …

Journal of Electrochemistry

The electro-oxidation of ethanol on nm-Pt/GC electrode in alkaline solutions containing 0.02 mol·L-1 NaOH+0.1 mol·L-1 CH3CH2OH was investigated by using cyclic voltammetry and in-situ FTIR spectroscopy. The experimental results demonstrated that the main product of ethanol oxidation is CH3COO-, only very small amount of CH 3CHO has been determined simultaneously. In contrast with the dual path reaction mechanism for the oxidation of ethanol in acid media, the oxidation of ethanol in alkaline media didn't pass through the dissociative adsorption, and no adsorbed species could be determined even using a …

The Lineal Polarization Method For Corrosion Rate Measurement Of Reinforcing Bar Of Concrete In Situ, Ai-Ling Du, Wen-Tao Hou, He-Ming Zhang, Jian-Qun Luo

Journal of Electrochemistry

A linear polarization method was applied to measure corrosion rate of reinforcing bar of concrete in situ. Generally in the experiment, the area and shape of the reinforcing bar as a working electrode can be changed and adjusted according to our needs. But polarization area cannot be defined when reinforcing bar is polarized in situ, so that a real Rp can't be obtained. Thus the purpose of present work is to improve the measurement system. We used the double-ring auxiliary electrodes made by ourselves. The size of the double-ring auxiliary electrodes was adjusted repeatedly until the real polarization area …

The Influence Of Surface Diffusion Of Adsorbed Intermediate On Hydrogen Evolution Reaction At Pt/Nafion Composite Electrodes, Wei-Yi Tu, Lei Su, Wen-Jun Liu, Bing-Liang Wu

Journal of Electrochemistry

The decrease of over-potential of hydrogen evolution reaction at Pt black powder/Nafion microelectrode, comparing that of the Pt microdisk/Nafion electrode, was evident from the polarization curves of the Pt microdisk/Nafion electrode, platinized Pt micrdisk/Nafion electrode and Pt black powder/Nafion microelectrode. It is also evidenced by a plane Pt electrode with an additional free Pt surface. The surface diffusion and the surface recombination reaction of the adsorbed intermediate at the free surface of the Pt particles were supposed. It is an additional reaction path that induced the decrease of the concentration of the adsorbed intermediate. Thereby, the over-potential decreased.

Journal of Electrochemistry

The adsorption of CO on electrodes of nanometer thin films of transition metals (Pt, Pd, Rh, Ru) and alloys (PtPd, PtRu) prepared under cyclic voltammetric conditions has been studied by in situ FTIR spectroscopy. The abnormal infrared effects (AIREs) have been explored as a novel and general phenomenon. The AIREs consist mainly in the inversion of the direction of IR band and the significant enhancement of IR absorption by adsorbed CO species. It was revealed that the enhanced IR absoroption of adsorbed species in AIREs depends strongly on the nature of metal or alloy, and on the structure and the …

Journal of Electrochemistry

The photoelectrochemical behaviors of the TiO2 nanostructured porous film sensitized by cyanine dye were investigated in this paper. The results showed that the excitaed state level matched the conduction band edge of TiO2 nanoparticle. Therefore the sensitization of the dye can increase the photocurrent intensity of the TiO2 nanostructured electrode obviously and results in a red-shift of optical absorption from the ultra-violet region to the visible. As a result, the light-to-electricity conversion efficiency was improved evidently, the maximum value of IPCE has reached 12.1%.

Preparation And Ionic Conductivity Of Nanometer-Sized Li2+XGdXSi1+XO3 By The Sol-Gel Method, Ru-Fen Chen, Xiu-Qin Song, Hua-Ting Liu

Journal of Electrochemistry

Li2+xGdxSi1-xO3(x =0~0.15) samples have been prepared by the Sol-Gel method. The power samples were characterized by DTA-TG, XRD and TEM. Ionic conductivity of the sinter was determined by means of A-C impedance measurements. The experimental results showed that the range of solid-solution was 0 < x ≤ 0.09, while the conductivity of samples raised with increasing amount of Gd2O3 added, and average grain size of samples was 80 nm. In comparing with the samples by the conventional solid state reaction, the samples prepared by Sol-Gel method required lower temperature and presented higher ionic conductivity.

Journal of Electrochemistry

The surface of the spherical nickel hydroxide particles used as an active material in pasted nickel electrodes is surface-deposited with cobalt. This paper investigated the effects of the amount of cobalt deposit on the characteristics of nickel hydroxide electrode. The performances of the electrode, such as discharge capacity, utilization of active material and reversibility of Ni(OH)2/NiOOH redox reaction, were studied by comparing the charging/discharging curves and cyclic voltammograms. The mechanism of action of cobalt deposits has been described in terms of the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy of nickel hydroxide electrode.

At the same potentials, part of the silver atoms are oxidized and form Ag2SO4 …
