Investigations To Determine A Possible Source Of The Carboniferous Sandstone Of The Ozark Region, John Hyer Bowles, Lewis Ely Davidson, William Ferdinand Netzeband

Bachelors Theses

"In preparing this thesis the object has been to determine, by comparisons, a possible source of the Carboniferous sandstones. It is perfectly obvious that the material came from some older formation. Considering all the possible sources from which the Carboniferous sandstone could have originated, we, have the Pre-Cambrian igneous rocks of the St. Francois Mountains, the basal Cambrian sandstone or the La Motte formation, the Roubidoux formation (chiefly sandstone), and the St. Peter formation (essentially sandstone)--Introduction, page 4.

Geologic Conditions Affecting The Accumulation Of Oil And Gas In The Beggs District, Oklahoma, John Charles Miller Jan 1921

Geologic Conditions Affecting The Accumulation Of Oil And Gas In The Beggs District, Oklahoma, John Charles Miller

Professional Degree Theses

"It is generally accepted that there is lack of parallelism between surface and subsurface beds and between the productive sands in the Beggs District, a condition similar to that which obtains in the Cushing Field. The explanation of this condition as given on page 31, Bulletin 658, U.S. Geological Survey, is: 1) The difference in resistance to compression of the hard and soft beds of which the formations of the Cushing Field are composed; 2) The lenticular form of the Bartlesville sand (the equivalent of the Glen; Gas of Morris pool); 3) One or more unconformities between surface beds and …

Flotation Tests On A Table Sludge From The Golden Rod Milling Company At Tar River, Oklahoma, William H. Kamp

Professional Degree Theses

"The purpose of this experimental work is to give to the operators of the Joplin District some facts concerning the possibilities of flotation in their district. An attempt will be made to show that high-grade concentrates can be made economically; also that the usual gravity concentration. It is believed that the oil and reagent used will not put a prohibitive cost burden upon the operators. It is, of course, realized that flotation concentrates of any zinc tenor bear a penalty because of the fineness of the product"--Introduction, page 3.

Concentration Of Ores By Flotation, John Gay Reilly, Frank Stillmann Elfred Jan 1917

Concentration Of Ores By Flotation, John Gay Reilly, Frank Stillmann Elfred

Bachelors Theses

"Flotation is a new step in the separation of valuable minerals from gangue. This process has only been in commercial use for about six years. There has been several theories advances as to how the ore is concentrated, and the theory that is now usually accepted is that the oil covers or wets the sulphide mineral particle and does not the gangue; and this mineral particle, by means of induced aid is concentrated on the surface. The authors of this thesis have not attempted to explain the reason or reasons why minerals will float; but have accepted the theories advanced …

The Goltra Process Of Concentrating Iron Ores As Developed At Waukon, Iowa, Ernest Wander Jan 1917

The Goltra Process Of Concentrating Iron Ores As Developed At Waukon, Iowa, Ernest Wander

Professional Degree Theses

"The more or less impure iron bearing mineral occurs mixed with a very tenacious clay, in which are also found chert, cretaceous quartz pebbles, pockets of sand, masses of pebbles and sand cemented by hydrous iron oxide, (which in some cases partly replaces the silica) and several varieties of fossils, such as crinoids etc. The impurities mentioned are often an integral part of the ore particles, and are present in varying quantities thruout [sic] the deposit. But, besides the foreign matter which the eye can discern, the apparently pure mineral contains a varying percentage of silica and alumina, (as well …

Concentration Of A Joplin Slime By Flotation, Earl Joseph Weimer, Walter Harry Freudenberg Jan 1917

Concentration Of A Joplin Slime By Flotation, Earl Joseph Weimer, Walter Harry Freudenberg

Bachelors Theses

"Concentration of the Joplin slimes by means of flotation is a subject receiving considerable attention at the present time, due to high price of zinc. These slimes are the accumulation of the finer particles of the ore during the milling process, and their zinc content is well worth considering. The practice in the past has been to sluice these slimes into the tailing pond, as no economical method of saving the zinc had been employed. The object of our experiment was to economically extract from these slimes by flotation, a product of sufficient zinc content to be of commercial value"--Introduction, …

Selective Concentration Of A Complex Ore By Flotation, Paul Frederick Pape, Ralph Dale Jan 1917

Selective Concentration Of A Complex Ore By Flotation, Paul Frederick Pape, Ralph Dale

Bachelors Theses

"The problem of the Mining Engineer and Metallurgical Engineer who wishes to treat the slimes and fine sands of a complex ore is the recovery and separation of minerals so as to render a subsequent treatment of any mineral profitable. The minerals must be separated into groups which can be treated by different processes, because a combination of numerous minerals is extremely undesirable at the smelting plant. In a lead ore the presence of zinc often depletes its value to such an extent that it is unprofitable to treat it; likewise with other minerals and ores. Many systems of selective …

Practical Details Of Mine Surveying In Certain Mines Of Northern Mexico, Arturo C. Fernandez Jan 1917

Practical Details Of Mine Surveying In Certain Mines Of Northern Mexico, Arturo C. Fernandez

Bachelors Theses

"The name of this thesis is suggestive of its character. The writer has endeavored to resent in a general way some of the most important details of mine surveying as he has found them in actual practice. For the sake of uniformity the engineering staff in which he worked prepared a set of instructions to be used by the engineers at the various mines. The methods and illustrations described in this paper have been adapted from these instructions and they afford a thorough foundation ready to receive the minor details best adapted to each particular mining district"--Foreword, page ii.

Pneumatic Ore Concentration, Robert Winters Johnson, Walter William Weissbach Jan 1916

Pneumatic Ore Concentration, Robert Winters Johnson, Walter William Weissbach

Bachelors Theses

"The concentration of lead and zinc ores by means of air is practically an unexplored field, although the subject is by no means a new one. Considerable research work has been done and several methods, processes and machines have been developed, but little or nothing has been accomplished towards making air separation a success. the lack of success has been due mainly to two reasons:- (1) That very little has been known about the internal conduct of air currents, and (2) that nearly all methods and machines so far worked out have presupposed the fact that the ore to be …

Flotation Applied To Silicate Sludge, Yaro Klepel, Greene Erskine Jan 1916

Flotation Applied To Silicate Sludge, Yaro Klepel, Greene Erskine

Bachelors Theses

"Within the past few years great success has been made of the flotation of sulfids, and to a certain extent of carbonates.

Since sulfids are easily recovered by flotation it seems practicable that silicates could be made to float by first sulfidizing them, and then subjecting them to ordinary flotation treatment.

This problem involves the treatment of a silicate sludge obtained from the Joplin district, the sludge will easily pass through a 250 mesh screen. At the present time this sludge is being sent to the tailings pond.

The experimental work of this thesis was done along the line of …

The Flotation Of A West Joplin, Mo. Slime, John Stone Hoffman, James Joseph Dowd Jan 1916

The Flotation Of A West Joplin, Mo. Slime, John Stone Hoffman, James Joseph Dowd

Bachelors Theses

"Owing to the high price of zinc and the success attending flotation in other districts, intense interest was aroused in the flotation of slimes of the South-West Missouri District. These slimes are the accumulation of the finer particles of the ore during the milling process and their metallic content is generally higher than that of the original ore. They have been disposed of, in the past, by sluicing them to the tailings ponds because no economical method of saving the zinc had been discovered. The object of our experiments was to economically extract from these slimes, by flotation, a product …

Professional Degree Theses

"This thesis applies to a central power station located in a rapidly growing manufacturing city with a present population of 40,000. The station is connected by high voltage transmission lines with six hydro and steam generating stations located in other cities. These transmission lines are mainly for emergency purposes so that this report considers that the station here studied will carry its full load. The boiler room is the only part of the station considered in this thesis as a previous study showed that there was ample space in the engine room for turbo-generator for years to come"--Introduction, page 1.

Cyaniding The Buckhorn Clay, Paul Richardson Cook Jan 1916

Cyaniding The Buckhorn Clay, Paul Richardson Cook

Professional Degree Theses

"The Buckhorn, Nevada, gold mine is peculiar in being a shallow kaolinized mass of material with basalt walls, having no direct connection with any of the usual gold bearing rocks, the average ore containing 16% water of hydratum. the cyaniding of this hydrant clayey material offered unusual difficulties compared with the usual gold quartz ore of Nevada. The ore body was thoroughly developed; then the mill was built according to the latest cyanide practice, with such changes as was thought the peculiar nature of this ore demanded. Upon starting the mill, the ore proved more difficulty to handle than had …
