Aquaculture Ecosystem Modeling Aeration Efficiency Optimization Using Cfd, Gabriela Reyes Gomez
Aquaculture Ecosystem Modeling Aeration Efficiency Optimization Using Cfd, Gabriela Reyes Gomez
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2020 - Present
The Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute (HBOI) is developing the Intelligent and Resource Efficient Pond Aquaculture (IREPA) project, which aims to improve aquaculture management through the integration of predictive models and automated technologies. This approach seeks to transition traditional practices toward data-driven systems capable of supporting informed decision-making for aeration management.
This study investigates the effectiveness of different aerator configurations on hydrodynamic circulation and dissolved oxygen (DO) distribution in aquaculture ponds using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). A model was developed in ANSYS Fluent, where the aerator was represented using a power-based formulation and implemented as a moving wall boundary condition. Dissolved …
Optimization Of A Point Absorber Wave Energy Converter (Wec), Rutwa Dilipkumar Nagar
Optimization Of A Point Absorber Wave Energy Converter (Wec), Rutwa Dilipkumar Nagar
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2020 - Present
This study examines the performance and optimization of a point absorber wave energy converter with a partially submerged spherical float. A comprehensive open-source computational framework integrates frequency-domain hydrodynamic analysis with time-domain simulation using Capytaine, BEMIO, and WEC-Sim. Hydrodynamic coefficients such as added mass, radiation damping, and excitation forces are calculated and integrated into the governing equation of motion using the Cummins formulation. A parametric analysis varies the float diameter and geometric configurations across several cases. Hydrodynamic coefficients and response amplitude operators are assessed to analyze system behavior and resonance characteristics. Results indicate consistent trends in normalized added mass, with radiation …
Experimental Investigation Into The Boundary Layer Of A Robotic Anguilliform Propulsor, Jonathan R. Eastridge
Experimental Investigation Into The Boundary Layer Of A Robotic Anguilliform Propulsor, Jonathan R. Eastridge
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
Boundary layer information local to three longitudinal positions has been characterized for a 130 cm long biomimetic self-propulsor known as NEELBOT-1.1 that swims with undulatory anguilliform-like motions, via analysis of stereo particle image velocimetry (PIV) measurements for key moments in the undulation cycle and for numerous combinations of swimming conditions and motion parameters, ideal and non-ideal. No obvious turbulent flow structures or indications of boundary layer separation were observed at nonzero advance speeds, and skin friction coefficients were subsequently estimated for magnitude relative to the dynamic pressure associated with operation at the design swimming speed of Uo = 0.25 …
Motion Dynamics Of Dropped Cylindrical Objects, Gong Xiang
Motion Dynamics Of Dropped Cylindrical Objects, Gong Xiang
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
Dropped objects are among the top ten causes of fatalities and serious injuries in the oil and gas industry. Objects may be dropped during lifting or any other offshore operation. Concerns of health, safety, and the environment (HSE) as well as possible damages to structures require the prediction of where and how a dropped object moves underwater. This study of dropped objects is subdivided into three parts. In the first part, the experimental and simulated results published by Aanesland (1987) have been successfully reproduced and validated based on a two-dimensional (2D) theory for a dropped drilling pipe model. A new …
Modeling And Control Of A Flexible Ionic Polymer Metal Composite(Ipmc) Actuator For Underwater Propulsion, Shivakanth Gutta
Modeling And Control Of A Flexible Ionic Polymer Metal Composite(Ipmc) Actuator For Underwater Propulsion, Shivakanth Gutta
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
The goal of this research is to model and control the underwater vehicle propelled by IPMC actuator. IPMC consists of an ionic membrane sandwiched between two metallic electrodes. When an external voltage is applied, IPMC undergoes large deformation due to transport of ions. Due to its ability to work in aqueous environments, it can be used for developing small scale underwater vehicles.
First, Finite element approach is used to describe the dynamics of the both single and segmented IPMC actuator. In the approach presented, each element is attached with a local coordinate system that undergoes rigid body motion along with …
Performance Of Hollow Fiber Membrane Gas-Liquid Contactors To Absorb Co2 Using Diethanolamine (Dea) As A Solvent, Sutrasno Kartohardjono, Pan Ade Nata, Eko Prasetio, Yuliusman Yuliusman
Performance Of Hollow Fiber Membrane Gas-Liquid Contactors To Absorb Co2 Using Diethanolamine (Dea) As A Solvent, Sutrasno Kartohardjono, Pan Ade Nata, Eko Prasetio, Yuliusman Yuliusman
Makara Journal of Technology
This study uses DEA solution to absorb CO2 from the gas flow through the hollow fiber membrane contactors. This study aims to evaluate the performance of hollow fiber membrane contactors to absorb CO2 gas using DEA solution as solvent through mass transfer and hydrodynamics studies. The use of DEA solution is to reduce the mass transfer resistance in the liquid phase, and on the other side, the large contact area of the membrane surface can cover the disadvantage of membrane contactors; additional mass transfer resistance in the membrane phase. During experiments, CO2 feed flows through the fiber lumens, while the …
Dynamics Of Wave-Current Boundary Layers Over Very Rough Boundaries, Marion Bandet-Chavanne
Dynamics Of Wave-Current Boundary Layers Over Very Rough Boundaries, Marion Bandet-Chavanne
Link Foundation Ocean Engineering and Instrumentation Fellowship Reports
In this study, acoustic profiling techniques are used to resolve the two-dimensional spatial structures of the oscillating boundary layer in a phase-averaged sense over a wave orbital amplitude. The principal objective of this work is to examine the spatial variability of turbulent properties over irregular roughness. Field observations are used to investigate the interaction between bottom roughness, flow structure and turbulent properties within the near-bed flow. The overall focus of the research is to relate wave energy dissipation or friction factor estimates to physical roughness elements and understand the dynamics of such processes in the near-bed flow.
