Process And Product Optimization Techniques - A Comparative Analysis Using Optimization Of Surface Roughness, Amol Suresh Sonje Apr 2006

Process And Product Optimization Techniques - A Comparative Analysis Using Optimization Of Surface Roughness, Amol Suresh Sonje

Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Theses & Dissertations

Robust design improves the fundamental function of the product or process considering noise factors in DOE. G. Taguchi has made significant advances in the use of experimental design. Taguchi methods are criticized on the basis of failure to deal with interactions, use of SIN ratio and lack of sequential nature of investigation. Response Surface Methodology deals with designing models that represents response in terms of various factors affecting it. Optimization of surface finish is achieved using both Taguchi Methods and Response Surface Methodology.

Dual response approach is a combination of Taguchi methods and RSM techniques in which primary response is …

Rfid Technology Use In Assembly And Disassembly Processes, Gordana Ostojić, Milovan Lazarević, Vukica Jovanović, Stevan Stankovski, Ilija Ćosić Jan 2006

Rfid Technology Use In Assembly And Disassembly Processes, Gordana Ostojić, Milovan Lazarević, Vukica Jovanović, Stevan Stankovski, Ilija Ćosić

Engineering Technology Faculty Publications

Modern production conditions demand the application of the concept of distributed production. Today companies are specialized for partial technology processes. Hundreds, sometimes even thousands, of collaborative processes depend on workers’ interaction and communication in product assembly and disassembly phases. RFID technologies can be really helpful in identifying objects in terms of sustainable development, regarding disassembly, recycling and reuse. In this paper we presented VCDE system architecture and the realization method of RFID technology as well as the data acquisition using RFID technology during the product lifecycle from the design process, production, assembly, usage, and an special example is given regard- …

Using Rfid Technology In Collaborative Design Of The Assembly Systems, Stevan Stankovski, Gordana Ostojić, Vukica Jovanović, Branislav Stevanov Jan 2006

Using Rfid Technology In Collaborative Design Of The Assembly Systems, Stevan Stankovski, Gordana Ostojić, Vukica Jovanović, Branislav Stevanov

Engineering Technology Faculty Publications

Modern production conditions require the application of the concept of distributing production. This approach means coordinative production in a number of small and middle size companies. Multiplex products, consisting of a number of parts, components, and modules are assembled in one function unit in one company, but they may not be manufactured in one place. Huge factory and production complex, which existed in our country, comprised all phases of product lifecycle, from the development of a concept solution to the assembly. Technology of product manufacturing, resource logistics, quality control, product testing and verification of product function characteristics all represented activities …

Process Flow Optimization Studies Through Discrete Event Simulation, Milind Chokshi Apr 2000

Process Flow Optimization Studies Through Discrete Event Simulation, Milind Chokshi

Electrical & Computer Engineering Theses & Dissertations

Computer-aided simulation has begun to emerge as a powerful tool for numerical analysis of the behavior and anticipated performance of industrial systems and their optimization. Applications include materials handling, storage and controls systems, prediction of manufacturing efficiencies, and production optimization. Simulations are used to test baseline models and subsequently analyze new production concepts, operating strategies, and planned procedures prior to costly implementation.

The study of process flows in a manufacturing environment is difficult due to its inherent stochastic nature. Breakdown of the sub-systems and failures of machines is a random process and needs to be solved based on concepts of …

Development Of A Knowledge-Based System For Generating Process Plans Using Group Technology: A Study For Norfolk Naval Shipyard, William P. Keene Jr. Apr 1995

Development Of A Knowledge-Based System For Generating Process Plans Using Group Technology: A Study For Norfolk Naval Shipyard, William P. Keene Jr.

Engineering Management & Systems Engineering Theses & Dissertations

The purpose of this research was to study and analyze the Norfolk Naval Shipyard's manufacturing methods of determining part families and generating part process plans for parts in the machine shop. A knowledge-based decision support system was designed based on knowledge acquired from machinist experts and documented sources of the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. The system interprets specific part information provided by the user, categorizes parts into part families and generates process plans to manufacture the parts. The system was evaluated and tested for parts provided by Norfolk Naval Shipyard.
