Thermoeconomic Analysis And Multi-Objective Optimisation Of Solar-Based Hydrogen Production And Liquefaction Process, Wei Haoran

Student Works (2020-2029)

Solar thermal technology has advanced significantly in recent years. It enables new renewable pathways for clean hydrogen fuel production, with considerable environmental and economic benefits. The proposed system integrates a heliostat field with high-temperature thermal energy storage (tes), a supercritical carbon dioxide (s-co2) brayton power cycle, photovoltaic-thermal (pv/t) modules coupled to reverse osmosis desalination (for water supply), a solid oxide electrolysis cell (soec) for hydrogen generation, and a claude cycle for hydrogen liquefaction. The plant is designed to operate in three modes (low, high, and zero solar radiation) to utilize solar energy during the day and stored heat at night. …

Mould Risk Prevention In Healthcare Facilities In Hot And Humid Climates Through Acmv Air Supply Parameter Optimisation: Development And Validation Of A Multi-Objective Optimisation Framework, Jiang Kaiyun Mar 2026

Mould Risk Prevention In Healthcare Facilities In Hot And Humid Climates Through Acmv Air Supply Parameter Optimisation: Development And Validation Of A Multi-Objective Optimisation Framework, Jiang Kaiyun

Student Works (2020-2029)

Air conditioning mechanical ventilation (ACMV) supply parameters—such as airflow rate, temperature, and humidity—significantly influence indoor thermal and hygrometric conditions, influencing airflow patterns and mould proliferation. In healthcare facilities, mould poses significant health risks, particularly for immunocompromised patients, contributing to respiratory issues, allergic reactions, and infections. While ACMV systems are central to infection control and indoor air quality, conventional designs often fall short in hot and humid climates. Existing practices typically prioritise high air change rates (ACH) without sufficient dehumidification, underestimate humidity control, and assume spatial homogeneity, overlooking microclimates conducive to localised mould growth. To address these limitations, this research develops …

Performance, Economic And Environmental Evaluation Of A Solar-Assisted Vacuum Deaeration Heating System., Liew Shan Kun

Student Works (2020-2029)

This research evaluates the performance of a solar-assisted heating (SAH) system for makeup water in a vacuum deaeration process. The system integrates solar energy into the heating process, with parametric analysis conducted across varying configuration of total solar radiation and water flow rates. The total solar radiation at the experimental site in Kuala Kangsar, Perak, Malaysia, characterized by tropical weather, fell within the range between 414W/m2 to 568W/m2. Performance analysis showed that a flow rate of 0.4 LPM achieved the target temperature of 61°C required for the deaeration process. Thermal efficiency peaked at 62.60% under a solar radiation of 900 …

Tribology, Performance And Emissions Of A Two Stroke-Cycle Engine Using Bio-Based Lubricant, Muhammad Zulfattah Zakaria Mar 2021

Tribology, Performance And Emissions Of A Two Stroke-Cycle Engine Using Bio-Based Lubricant, Muhammad Zulfattah Zakaria

Student Works (2020-2029)

Two-stroke (2T) gasoline engine is labelled as main contributor to air pollution, especially in the city. Ironically, this engine is still being sold and used and its sales was reported to increase over the years. The reason is that 2T gasoline engine is more powerful than four-stroke engine in term of power-to-weight ratio. Advancements in 2T engines technology also produces better emissions than their four-stroke counterpart. Most 2T engines do not have oil sump for lubricant which makes the maintenance easier, cheaper, and more practical e.g., for marine outboard engine which is heavy and costly to be dismantled and brought …

Exploitation Of Plasmon Resonance Phenomenon For The Improvement Of Direct Absorption Solar Collector Performance, Abdul Rahman Mallah Mar 2021

Exploitation Of Plasmon Resonance Phenomenon For The Improvement Of Direct Absorption Solar Collector Performance, Abdul Rahman Mallah

Student Works (2020-2029)

Direct absorption solar collectors (DASCs) are distinguished from other solar collectors by the volumetric absorption process, where the working fluid directly absorbs solar radiation. Studies have shown that DASCs can increase energy conversion efficiency by ~10% compared with conventional solar collectors. With advances in the development of nanotechnology, the concept of volumetric absorption is now feasible. Advances in nanotechnology accompanied by phenomenal discoveries at the nanoscale have made it possible to produce plasmonic materials. Plasmonic materials exhibit distinct optical characteristics under specific conditions. The free-electron cloud of metallic nanoparticles oscillates harmonically with the incident radiation. At a particular wavelength, resonance …

Feasibility Study On Concentrated Solar Power Plants In Malaysia, De Jen Choy

Student Works (2020-2029)

The rapidly growing economy and population in Southeast Asia has elevated the need for affordable, secured, sustainable and environmentally friendly energy sources. One such energy source is solar energy which is a suitable energy source for most Southeast Asian countries which are within the Sun Belt region. This study performs a performance and financial analysis on concentrated solar power (CSP) technologies, specifically the solar power tower (SPT) in the Malaysian environment through the use of simulation software. The significance of the study lies in the fact that limited research has been done on CSP technologies in Malaysia and the study …

Kinetic Study Of In-Pipe Water Flow For Power Generation, Surendaran Venuthan

Student Works (2020-2029)

In-pipe turbine generator has a potential to harvest energy from an existing water flow from distribution pipe which have natural and pumping capacity. That flow will be used to convert kinetic energy from the pipe to rotate the turbine. In turn, the turbine may be connected to a generator to produce electric power. The fact that the in-pipe turbine generator will be a useful energy harvesting tool with potential with industrial application is recommended by many scholars. However, there is a concern where there are many types and sizes of pipe that is readily used in the water works industry. …

Student Works (2020-2029)

The ever-increasing fossil fuel consumption over the years is attributable to economic and population growth, which in turn, increases greenhouse gas emissions. Bioethanol is one of the promising solutions to address the depletion of fossil fuels as well as environmental problems. Manihot glaziovii tubers and sweet sorghum grains are inedible feedstocks that can be used for bioethanol production. The carbohydrate content (70%) of these biomasses makes them suitable as feedstocks for bioethanol production. In this study, enzymatic hydrolysis (liquefaction and saccharification) was used to obtain the reduction of sugars. The enzymes α-amylase from Bacillus licheniformis Type XII-A and amyloglucosidase from …

Performance Analysis For Single-Stage And Multi-Stage Coreless Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Generator With Different Rotor Structures, Habib Asiful Jun 2020

Performance Analysis For Single-Stage And Multi-Stage Coreless Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Generator With Different Rotor Structures, Habib Asiful

Student Works (2020-2029)

Axial flux permanent magnet (AFPM) generator is a good candidate for both low and high-speed applications. Compared to radial flux machines, AFPM generators can be easily cascaded for enhanced power/torque while maintaining a fixed machine diameter. To improve power density and reduce cogging torque, some researchers have proposed the removal of iron core in the stator of AFPM machine, giving rise to the concept of coreless AFPM machine. Nevertheless, most of these coreless machines still require back iron on the rotor and/stator to reduce leakage flux. In this project, different rotor structures for single-stage coreless AFPM generators were considered, using …
