Source Page Evaluation Of Local Rag Retrieval For Engineering Safety: Implications For Mechanical And Civil Engineering, Sherif Sorour, Areej El Mufti, Mohamed Nabawy, Anwar Sahbel

Civil Engineering

Industrial safety question answering requires access to the exact source material that supports an answer, not merely a related document. This study evaluates the retrieval stage of a local retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) system at the source page level. Eighteen documents on lockout/tagout, machine guarding, and personal protective equipment were prepared in raw, cleaned, and metadata-enriched forms. Best Matching 25 (BM25), latent semantic analysis (LSA), and reciprocal rank fusion (RRF) hybrid retrieval were tested on 54 questions: 36 answerable, 12 safety-related but unsupported, and 6 outside the covered topics. Raw BM25 achieved the highest mean reciprocal rank (0.492) and Hit@5 (0.722), …

Decarbonizing The C3 Splitter: Performance Optimization And Environmental Impact Of Mvr Integration, Dalia A. Ali Associate Prof.

Chemical Engineering

Due to the relatively low volatility (α) of propane and propene components, their separation is one of the most energy-intensive processes in the petrochemical industry. This study evaluates the technical, environmental and thermodynamic performance of a mechanical vapor recompression (MVR) heat pump integrated into a C3 splitter, compared to a conventional steam-heated distillation column. A sensitivity study was conducted using Aspen Plus software at different pressures, reflux ratios (RR) and at turndown operations. According to the results, the MVR system uses a compressor to raise the overhead vapor pressure to 38.7 bar to operate the heater without the need for …

Emg-Based Intraoperative Neuromonitoring Using Advanced Machine Learning Approaches, Abdalla Nabil Elsharkawy, Nourhan Zayed

Mechanical Engineering

Intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) plays a critical role in minimizing nerve damage during surgeries by providing real-time feedback on neural integrity. This study evaluated models associated with deep learning and machine learning models for electromyography classification of signal during intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM). The CNNLSTM model achieved the highest accuracy (85.2%), outperforming traditional models like KNN (53%), RF (62%), and CNN (76%). This demonstrates the degree to which the CNN-LSTM model can gain insight into temporal and spatial dependencies throughout the EMG signals, which makes it optimal for real-time classification in IONM applications. This implies that deep learning techniques can improve surgical …

Implementation Of Multiscale Mechanisms In Finite Element Analysis Of Active Composite Structures, Amany G. Micheal Prof., Yehia Bahei El Din Prof. Feb 2022

Implementation Of Multiscale Mechanisms In Finite Element Analysis Of Active Composite Structures, Amany G. Micheal Prof., Yehia Bahei El Din Prof.

Centre for Advanced Materials

Composite structures reinforced with electrically active filaments are modeled with the finite element method while the underlying thermo-electromechanical coupling phenomena and damage are taken into consideration. At the outset, structural analysis is performed with a general-purpose finite element code and a special material routine, which propagates local phenomena to the overall scale is utilized. The material routine implements an interactive, multiscale analysis, which provides seamless integration of the mechanics at the composite’s micro, macro, and structural length scales. The interface between the multiscale material routine and the finite element code is made through nonmechanical strains caused by damage, and piezo/pyro-electric …

Implementation Of Multiscale Mechanisms In Finite Element Analysis Of Active Composite Structures, Amany Micheal, Yehia Bahei-El-Din

Centre for Advanced Materials

Interrogation of composite structures for inherent damage is investigated by implementing a three-tier analysis scheme. The analysis starts at the structure level where a general-purpose Finite Element code ABAQUS is employed to obtain the stress field in the second level of analysis which is the composite laminate. A special material routine is prepared to propagate the local fields to the individual plies and hence to the third level of analysis which is the microstructure modeling of the composite. Through the third level of analysis, interface damage between fiber and matrix is checked implementing a certain failure criteria. The interaction between …

Co-Gasification Of Coal And Biomass Wastes In An Entrained Flow Gasifier: Modelling, Simulation And Integration Opportunities, Dalia A. Ali Eng, Mamdouh A. Gadalla Prof., Omar Y. Abdelaziz, Christian P. Hulteberg, Fatma H. Ashour Prof. Jan 2017

Co-Gasification Of Coal And Biomass Wastes In An Entrained Flow Gasifier: Modelling, Simulation And Integration Opportunities, Dalia A. Ali Eng, Mamdouh A. Gadalla Prof., Omar Y. Abdelaziz, Christian P. Hulteberg, Fatma H. Ashour Prof.

Chemical Engineering

Gasification processes convert carbon-containing material into syngas through chemical reactions in the presence of gasifying agents such as air, oxygen, and steam. Syngas mixtures produced from such processes consist mainly of carbon monoxide (CO), hydrogen (H2), carbon dioxide (CO2), and methane (CH4); this gas can be directly utilised as a fuel to produce electricity or steam. Besides, it is regarded as a basic feedstock within the petrochemical and conventional refining industries, producing various useful products like methanol, hydrogen, ammonia, and acetic acid. In this work, a rigorous process model is developed to simulate the co-gasification of coal-biomass blends through an …

Chemical Engineering

Recently, there has been a growing research interest in the co-gasification of biomass with coal to produce syngas and electricity in a sustainable manner. Co-gasification technology do not only decrease potentially the exploitation of a significant amount of conventional coal resources, and thus lower greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions, but also boost the overall gasification process efficiency. In the present work, a rigorous simulation model of an entrained flow gasifier is developed using the Aspen Plus® software environment. The proposed simulation model is tested for an American coal and the model validation is performed in good agreement with practical data. The …
