CIGS material can be used as a material for photodetector applications. The deposition of CIGS thin films remains challenging. Generally, argon is used as a gas to bombard the CIGS material through the sputtering method. This study fabricated photodetectors by varying the argon gas flow rate (50-80 sccm) to investigate its effect on device performance. XRD, SEM, UV-Vis, and photoresponse tests were characterized. Structural analysis using XRD showed a weak (112) diffraction peak, indicating that the resulting film was not fully crystalline, but rather consisted of a nanocrystalline phase, even partly amorphous, with small crystallite sizes. According to the SEM …

Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science and Technology (JMEST)
Aerodynamic performance of an airfoil is significantly affected by flow separation, especially at high angles of attack. One common strategy to control flow separation is adding a triangular vortex generator (VG), which creates small vortices that help keep the airflow attached. The present study investigated the impact of triangular vortex generators on a NACA 6412 airfoil using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method. Large Eddy Simulation (LES) was applied due to its ability to show the vortices more clearly than other methods. It can also accurately capture the flow separation. To obtain the lift, drag, and lift-to-drag ratio (CL/CD) data, four …

This study investigates PVA-based films with the addition of gambir and heat treatment to improve the characteristics of the film. Methods include the synthesis of PVA film with gambir addition (0.5%), treated by heat treatment for 40 minutes and 60 minutes. The film was characterised by physicochemical, mechanical properties, and biodegradability. Data was analyzed using ANOVA with a significance of 95%. Results indicate that the surface of PVA/gambir films is smoother and more homogeneous as the heat treatment duration increases. New peaks of functional groups were identified after the addition of gambir at the C-C and C-O groups. After heat …

A major development in materials science toward reinforcement materials in biopolymer composites has been caused by a worldwide trend toward sustainable manufacturing and the rise of the circular economy. However, their mechanical properties can often be affected by their hydrophilic properties, lack of surface compatibility, and their presence of molecular bonding, such as lignin and hemicellulose. Alkaline surface modification has been widely reported as an effective technique to increase structural stability and fibermatrix adhesion. This study evaluated the effects of alkalizing three types of local natural fibers—bamboo fiber (BF), pineapple leaf fiber (PALF), and sisal (SF)—with sodium hydroxide (NaOH) at …

The heavy reliance on fossil fuels has serious consequences, particularly regarding increased greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global warming. In order to obtain cleaner fuel resources and reduce fossil fuel dependence, palm oil biodiesel is added to fossil diesel by volume ratio resulting in B50 and B55 blends. Combustion characteristics, performance, fuel consumption, and emissions were performed in a diesel engine with a 4-cylinder common rail direct injection (CRDI) at different engine speeds (1500, 2000, 2500, and 3000 rpm). Compared to fossil diesel, biodiesel blends exhibit higher density at 855.9 kg/m³ (B55), kinematic viscosity with a value of 5.1 …

Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science and Technology (JMEST)
The increasing number of motor vehicles has led to higher fossil fuel consumption, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions, climate change, and environmental degradation. As a renewable alternative, biodiesel offers a way to reduce these impacts. Indonesia, with its abundant natural resources, has significant potential for biodiesel production. Crude palm oil (CPO) is a promising feedstock due to its availability and relatively low environmental impact. However, the high costs associated with the transesterification process make direct use of pre-heated CPO an area worth exploring. This study investigates the impact of pre-heated pure CPO compared to B35 ("Dexlite") on rocker arm wear …

The study aims to evaluate the influence of adding copper aluminum–alumina composite (Al–Al₂O₃) against characteristic thermal properties through metallurgical powder. Three variations of the composition of weight copper were used, namely 5%, 10%, and 15%, with aluminum as the matrix and alumina as the reinforcement. Thermal test covering analysis of thermal conductivity, specific heat, and microstructure characterization using SEM-EDX. The results show that adding Cu increases thermal conductivity significantly, with the highest mark achieved in the 15% Cu composite (6.47 W/m.°C). However, the increase in Cu content above 10% causes the agglomeration of particles and enhancements in porosity, which harms …

The variations of warhead shapes tested include flat, flat radius, and tapered, while the materials used are rubber, ABS, and PE. The simulation results show that the tapered warhead shape with PE material produces the lowest pressure (50.3 MPa) due to more efficient pressure release and low friction properties. Conversely, the Flat shape produces the highest pressure (69.1 MPa) on all materials due to flow stagnation. In terms of temperature, the Flat Radius warhead with PE and …

The performance of modern racing motorcycles is greatly influenced by their aerodynamics. Slipstreaming occurs during a race when a rider closely follows another, especially on a straight track. The effect can reduce aerodynamic drag and increase the overall speed of the rider behind. This study investigates the aerodynamic effects of slipstreaming on a racing motorcycle using computational fluid dynamics. This study also considers its effect on both drag force and downforce, which affects motorcycle stability. A 3D CAD model of a racing motorcycle and a rider in a crouching position was used as the object of research. CFD simulations were …

Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science and Technology (JMEST)
The use of bare metal stents over the long term often leads to the re-narrowing of blood vessels, prompting a shift to drug-eluting stents (DES). However, the use of polymers in DES has been known to trigger inflammation and thrombosis in the arteries. As an alternative, polymer-free drug-eluting stents (PF-DES) have emerged as a safer option. In this study, curcumin was selected as the primary coating material for PFDES using the electrophoretic deposition method. The effects of varying curcumin concentrations (125 µg/ml, 250 µg/ml, and 500 µg/ml) were examined to understand their impact on deposition morphology, coating weight, chemical bonding …

The performance of activated carbon (AC)-based supercapacitor electrodes is often limited by poor electrical conductivity, prompting interest in conductive additives such as carbon black (CB). This study explores the transformative potential of CB as a conductive additive in AC-based supercapacitor electrodes and systematically investigates CB mass loadings of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%, using styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) as the binder. The findings in this study demonstrate that 10% CB is the optimal loading, offering a balanced performance in terms of structure, morphology, and capacitance. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis reveals a distinct structural evolution at 10% CB, characterized by the …

Utilization of pineapple biowaste is important to increase the value added to biowaste and solve the environmental problem. So, the study objective is to synthesize membranes of bacterial cellulose made from pineapple biowaste and characterize the surface morphology and porosity of the membrane after being added with ZnO nanopowder. The study starts with extracting biowaste as a bacterial cellulose culture medium for the fermentation process. The obtained pellicle was crushed and homogenized with the added ZnO nanopowder in the presence of ultrasonic waves. The membrane is dried in the oven. The membrane morphology was monitored using scanning electron microscope and …
