Lovastatin is an anti-cholesterol agent that was produced by Aspergillus terreus using solid state fermentation (SSF). During this fermentation process, sulochrin is also produced as an unwanted co-metabolite. However, our previous result showed that sulochrin had potential as antidiabetes because it is an inhibitor agent of α-glucosidase. In this paper, we reported our observation on lovastatin and sulochrin production pattern in relation with inhibitor α-glucosidase activity during eleven days fermentation of A. terreus koji (SSF) ethyl acetate extract. An introduction to existing closure schemes for the Doi-Hess kinetic theory of liquid crystalline polymers is provided. A new closure scheme is devised based on a least squares fit of a linear combination of the Doi, Tsuji-Rey, Hinch-Leal I, and Hinch-Leal II closure schemes. The orientation tensor and rate-of-strain tensor are fit separately using data generated from the kinetic solution of the Smoluchowski equation. The known behavior of the kinetic solution and existing closure schemes at equilibrium is compared with that of the new closure scheme. The petroleum fuels (PF) subsidy has long burdens the government spending, and discourages less expensive energy usage such as natural gas (NG). Exporting NG and importing the more expensive PF products cause financial losses to Indonesia. The lack of NG infrastructure is the main hurdle in maximizing domestic NG usage and so does the perception of its high investment costs burdening government spending and pushing the NG transportation cost up. This paper describes a research toward the accuracy of floating-point values, and effort to reveal the real accuracy. The methods used in this research paper are assignment of values, assignment of value of arithmetic expressions, and output the values using floating-point value format that helps reveal the accuracy. The programming-tool used are Visual C# 9, Visual C++ 9, Java 5, and Visual BASIC 9. These tools run on top of Intel 80 x 86 hardware. The results show that 1*10-x cannot be accurately represented, and the approximate accuracy ranges only from 7 to 16 decimal digits.

A great number of experimental researches on the prevention of the CaCO3 precipitation process by magnetic field have been carried out. Two class pattern classification problems appeared in many applications. In some applications, the characteristic of the members in a class is dissimilar. This paper proposed a classification system for this problem. The proposed system was developed based on the combination of kernel principal component analysis (KPCA) and support vector machines (SVMs). This system has been implemented in a two class face recognition problem. The average of the classification rate in this face image classification is 82.5%.

BaTiO3–SrTiO3 (BST) thick films (~ 250–390 μm) with layered structures were fabricated by tape-casting and lamination process. Layered composites with various Ba/Sr ratios were obtained by lamination of BaTiO3 (BT) and SrTiO3 (ST) tapes in different spatial configurations (2–2). As-prepared BST ceramics showed much improved sinterability over the laminates of pure BT or pure ST tapes. Dielectric properties of materials were measured in the temperature range of 25 °C to 200 °C. Many properties of emulsions arise from interfacial rheology, but a theoretical understanding of the effect of interfacial viscosities on droplet dynamics is lacking. Here we report such a theory, relating to isolated spherical drops in a Poiseuille flow. Stokes flow is assumed in the bulk phases, and a jump in hydrodynamic stress at the interface is balanced by Marangoni and surface viscous forces according to the Boussinesq–Scriven constitutive law. Our model employs a linear equation of state for the surfactant. Our analysis predicts slip, cross-stream migration and droplet-circulation velocities. Memristive properties of thin film copper oxides with different grain sizes were characterized using tunneling atomic force microscopy (TUNA) and optical reflection measurements. The thin films containing copper ions of different chemical states were prepared by thermal oxidation of metallic copper thin films, deposited via magnetron sputtering onto silicon wafer substrates at an elevated temperature for various lengths of time. The TUNA measurements showed a memristive hysteresis in the I-V curves under an applied bias profile with an initial bias of -3.5V, a ramp up to 3.5V, and subsequent return to -3.5V. This document addresses two major obstacles facing metamaterial development: uncertainty in the characterization of electromagnetic field behavior in metamaterial structures and the relatively small operational bandwidth of metamaterial structures. To address the first obstacle, a method of prediction aided measurement is developed and exploited to examine the field interactions within metamaterial devices. The fusion of simulation and measurement techniques enhances the understanding of the physical interactions of fields in the presence of metamaterials. The United States Air Force and the Department of Defense is increasingly interested in nanomaterials. To study these materials, one needs to measure the mechanics of materials on the nanoscale. Over the past few decades the atomic force microscope (AFM) has been used in various methods to establish local surface properties at the nanoscale. In particular, surface elasticity measurements are crucial to understanding nanoscale surface properties. Solvent-free nanofluids are a new and exciting class of material that evolved to address the limitations of their predecessors, nanocomposites. One of the most exciting aspects of solvent-free nanofluids is the wide range of tools chemists have to build and study them. Understanding how the structure manipulations impact the rheology of the resulting solvent-free nanofluids is essential if solvent-free nanofluids are truly the technology of the future. This work documents the basic rheological parameters, thermal transitions, and curing kinetics of various solvent-free nanofluids synthesized by Zhiming Qiu and Kejian Bian at the Coating Research Institute at Eastern Michigan University.

The dielectric function of Ag nanoparticle films, deduced from an analysis of in situ real-time spectroscopic ellipsometry (RTSE) measurements, is found to evolve with time during deposition in close consistency with the film structure, deduced in the same RTSE analysis. In the nucleation regime, the intraband dielectric function component is absent and plasmon polariton behavior dominates. Only at nuclei contact, does the intraband amplitude appear, increasing above zero. Both intraband and plasmon amplitudes coexist during surface smoothening associated with coalescence. The intraband relaxation time increases rapidly after surface smoothening is complete, also in consistency with the thin film structural evolution.

The present study developed a preparation method of SPR gold substrate based on water phase operation.Firstly,on the glass modified by APTMS we self-assembed a gold colloid monolayer as the catalyst bed;Secondly,using the chemical plating technique,we made the gold film increase equably within the namometer range to obtain the proper shape and thinkness of the gold film required by the SPR.The analysis results of UV-vis and TEM demonstrated that the diameter of the monolayer formed from gold nanoparticles was 2.5 nm.Moreover,SEM showed that the nanoparticle prepared by electroless gold plating was uniformly distributed,whose diameter was 40 nm.The SPR flow injection experiment …

Sn thin films as the anode materials of Li-ion batteries were prepared by vacuum-evaporation method on the copper foam substrate. The phase structure,surface morphology and electrochemical property of the as-prepared films were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM), and galvanostatic cycling. Mesoporous nickel oxide has been synthesized by calcining metal-organic coordination precursor.Transmission electron microscopy and BET test showed that the prepared NiO had a regular morphology and displayed a narrow size distribution.Electrochemical tests revealed that such mesoporous NiO had a specific capacity of 72 F·g-1 at the current of 2.0 A·g-1.Futhermore,the material showed excellent cycle-life stability.There was no degradation of capacitance after 1000 cycles.

Titanium-supported nanoporous palladium electrode(nanoPd /Ti) was prepared by a hydrothermal process in the presence of the ligand EDTA and using formaldehyde as reducing agent.SEM images showed that the size of Pd particles was about 60 nm and the Pd particles were connected with each other to form a three-dimensional network structure.Cyclic voltammetry(CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS) were applied to evaluate the electrocatalytic activity of the nanoPd/Ti electrode towards methanol oxidation in alkaline solution.CV results showed that the nanoPd /Ti electrode presented high anodic peak densities and a low onset potential for methanol oxidation.Also nanoPd /Ti electrode showed excellent CO tolerance …
