The Catalytic effects of Ag(Ⅰ) on toluene oxidation by Mn(Ⅲ) as well as the anodic generation of Mn(Ⅲ) were investigated. The rates of toluene oxidation were first order with respect to both Ag(Ⅰ) and Mn(Ⅲ). Ag(Ⅱ) formed on the surface of the platinum anode when Ag(Ⅰ) was present in the anolyte, which catalyic the Mn(Ⅱ) to Mn(Ⅲ) in solution.

Cold-roll-milling has been evaluated as a technique for preparing porous LiAlO2 matrices for use as a molten carbonate fuel cell electrolyte matrix. This technique produces reliable electrolyte structures with the following characteristics and advantages: ease of handling, uniform thickness, using nontoxic inorganic solvents, controlled pore size distribution, and ability to be impregnated with the alkali carbonate without fracrure.

Ordered monolayers of S- and N-containing amphipathic corrosion inhibitors were depoitod onto the surfaces of carbon steel electrode with super-molecular assembly technique. The effect of molecular aggregation of monolayers on carbon steel corrosion in 0.05 mol·cm-3 H2SO4 and the mechanisms of these inhibitors were discussed in details. It was found that the transport of hydrated hydrogen ion to the surface of steel depends strongly on the inhibitor molecular aggregation in the monolayers.

Anode catalysts of methanol oxidation for direct methanol fuel cell, Pt/C and PtRu/C, ere prepared by chemical reduction in this work. The results indicated that the PtRu/C showed higher electrocatalytic activity than that of Pt/C. It was explained by XRD and XPS analyses that the existence of Ru enhanced the catalytic activity for electrochemical oxidation of methanol.

A photoelectrochemical investigation has been carried out on AISI 304 stainless steeI AV modulated passive film in 0.1mol/L Na2B4O7 and 0.5 mol/L Na2SO4 solution. Photo current curve depends on the potential, passive condition and testing solutions. The results of the measurements indicate that the photoresponse is determined by the defects in the electronic structure of the films whenthe defects lead to localized states in the bandgap region. It is concluded that the passive film on AISI 304 stainless steel is in a highly disordered amorphous state.

A modified electrolytic manganese dioside doped with Bi (Bi-EMD)wasprepared and examined by XRD and XPS. It is predominantly γ-mnO2 and the Bi exists as Bi2O3 in the modified material. The content of Bi in Bi-EMDs increased with the increasement of Bi3+ concentration in electrolyte, and reached 14.3(wt)% from the bath of 0.008 mol·L-1 Bi3+ used. Some Zn/Bi-EMD prototype batteries of AA size were assembled, and which cycle life tests showedthat the Bi-EMD has better reversibility.

Horseradish peroxidase (HRP) was immobilized by crosslinkage on the glassycarbon electrode to prepare the enzyme electrode, where the reduction of H2O2 was studied in 1,4-dioxane media. It was shown that HRP electrode can catalyze the reduction of H2O2 without anymedintor, however, as an activator, o-phenylenediamine can promote the bio-catalysis. In thepresence of the activator, the parallel reactions occurred on the enzyme electrode. The structure of LiCoO2 synthesized with tartaric acid and the behavior of itsrechargeable Lithium battery have been studied by XRD, XPS, CV, CT. It has been shown that LiCoO2 has a space group R3m with hexagonal parameters a=0.2810 nm, c=1.4088 nm. Low-spin state Co3+ configuration in LiCoO2 has been suggested. Also, Li2O, was identified onits surface. Furthermore, the capacity and the middle working voltage of its Lithium battery are about 120 mA·h·g-1 and 3.8 V, respectively. X-ray photoelectron spectrum and characteristics of the capacity, versus thevoltage of the thin film devices are measured to study the surface states of the zinc sulfide thin film.The transient electroluminescence excited by pulses shows the relaxation luminance peaks during anon-exponential decay process of the characteristic transitions activated by Er3+ in the ZnS directcurrent thin film electroluminescence (DCTFEL) devices.The surface structures of ZnS:Cu, Cl, Erfilm with the absorption of oxygen, and the effect of the surface states on the relaxation luminance ofthe devices are discussed.

The identification of the phase composition of the anodic film on Pb formed in H2SO4 solution in PbO potential region has long been argued, together with the explanation of thecathodic peak at about -0.9V (Hg/HgSO4) in the linear sweep voltammogram for a Pb-H2SO4 system. The electronic properties of the passive film on REBAR electrodes in simulatedcement pore solution (pH=9.0~13.8) have been investigated using in-situ photoelectrochemical methods. The results show that the passive film is composed of mixed oxides of ferrum, and it is an amorphous, n-type semiconductive film. Variations of pH values, ions in the solution and film-formation potentials can affect the composition of the films. There are two main stages in the growthof the film, with two rate functions characterized by linear relation between the film thickness and thelogarithm of time. In this paper, Raman spectra, photocurrent and the UV-VIS reflectance aremeasured for studying the α-Fe2O3 ultrafine particles adsorbed on Pt electrode. The blue shifts of Raman peaks demonstrate the size quantization effect for the particles of 50 nm in diameter ascompared with the bulk material. With the changing of the potential, the photocurrent decrcases as the UV-VIS reflectance increases, and vice-versa. Therefore, the potential not only affects the hargetransfer direcdtion in the interface of electrode/redox couple, but also influences the light absortion onthe surface of particles. The process of electrochemical reduction of 2EAQ in DMSO is studied using CVand ESR methods in this work, Pt, Pd and some implanted materials are used as electrodes. The quasi-rever-sible property of two electron transfer steps and their following homogeneous chemical reactions are illustrated. The mechanism of the electrochemical red uction of 2EAQ and the kinetic parameters of the related steps are obtained. Having measured the influence of water content in the system, the effect of the proton donor is discussed. A horseradish peroxidase (HRP)/poly-o-phenylenediamine (PPD) membrane electrode was prepared by electropolymerization of o-phenylenediamine on glassy carbon in pH 7.0 phosphate buffer, the process of the enzyme immobilization was studied. The enzyme electrode obtained exhibits the activity to catalyze the electroreduction of hydrogen peroxide in the absence of any electron transfer mediator. The red uction reaction occurs in the potential range of PPD redoxprocess, it was believed that the polymer participates in electron transfer of the enzyme. The enzyme reaction kinetics at rotating HRP/PPD electrode was analysed, and the factors influencing kinetic parameters were discussed.

The main factors of the laser scanning in-situ photoelectrochemical microscopic measurement system which is set up in our lab have been discusaed in this paper. Some applications of this technique for in-situ study of modification and processing of semiconductor electrodes, monitoring of electro deposition process of semiconducting material and redox reaction occurring at metal oxide electrodes have also been presented. The results have shown that the technique is very powerful that for studing local photoelectrochemical properties of semiconductors and metal oxide electrodes. These provide important information on the micro structural and electronic properties in the solid/electrolyte interface.

The electrochemical oxidation of Mn(Ⅱ) to Mn(Ⅱ) in concentrated H2SO4 (2 ~ 8 mol⋅L-1) at lead electrode has been studied. It is found that the electrode surface is oxidized to PbO2 in a direct electrochemical reaction, then PbO2 formed reacts with Mn(Ⅱ) in a chemical reaction. Some effects involves current density, concentration of H2SO4, temperature and conversionwere evaluated. The rule of electrogenerated Mn(Ⅲ) in flow electrolysis cell were determined at several conditions. The current efficiency at greater than 90% is obtained in general.

This paper reported the glassy carbon electrode modified by cyclic voltammetrybetween -0.1 and +1.5 V (vs. SCE) in an aqueous solution containing catechol, for maldehyde and talium hydroxide. The modified electrode can be applied to the determination of copper(Ⅱ) in water, and its sensitivity is about 35 times higher than that of unmedified glassy carbon electrode, The quantitative limit with this modified electrode is 0.1 ng/ml.

The poly(o-phenylenediamine) (PPD) filmed graphite electrode was formed by electro-polymerization of o-phenylenediamine in acidified (pH=1) 0.2 mol·L-1 Na2SO4 solution using the cyclic voltammetric methed. The catalytic effect of the electrcareduction of oxygen in acid olution was demonstrated by the voltammogram of the electrode in the oxygen saturated acid solutionof Na2SO4. The current efficiency of the reduction of oxygen to hydrogen peroxide was determined by the electrolysis in a divided cell under the condition of constant current. The various effectsinfluencing the accmulation of H2O2 in the catholyte were discussed.

Electrochemical reduction reaction in the course of the titration of Eu(2.2.2) and Eu(2.2) using strong bonding solvent, DMSO, in C2H4Cl2 has been investigated by cyclic voltammetry. The greater the concentration of strong bonding solvent, the more negative the half-wave potentials for the reduction reaction are. The coordination number of Eu(2.2.2) and Eu(2.2) which are 2 and 3 respectively, with DMSO can be calculated, according to the relations between half-wave potentials and the variety of concentration of DMSO.

The growth processes of PbO and PbO2 on lead electrodes have been investigatedby using in-situ methods that are combined with temporary AC resistance measurment technique and in-situ laser scanning photoelectrochemical microscopy. It is found that a linear relationship existsbetween the electrode resistance(R) and1/2 after the electrode is oxidized at +0.6 V(vs.Hg/H2SO4/35% H2SO4) for more than 5 min. This result suggests that the growth of PbO is well distributed during the early stage of oxidation. The study by using laser scanning photoelectrochemical microscopy has further proved this point. The Catalytic Behavior For Ni-W Electrode Modified By Carbon Ion Beam Implantion, Jishuang Zhang, Yaojiao Lv, Qinglian Li, Baoen Shen

The hydrogen evolution activity in acidic and basic mediums for Ni-W electrodemodified by carbon ion bean implantation was investigated. The experimental results show thiselectrode has superior catalytic activity for the hydrogen evolution reaction than that of the unmodified Ni-electrode. Long period testing of electrolysis under high current density show that this electrode hasalonger useful life hence it is a practical electrode material. The temperature effect of electrocatalytic property was also inverstigated. The experimental regularities are explained on the basis of the formation of surface multialloys of Ni-W-WC.

A photoelectrochemical investigation has been carried out on zirconium initialoxide film and its oxide film grownanodically at constant rate up to different thickness. Both anodicand cathedic photocurrents on the photocurrent spectrum depended on the potential, but had littlerelation with the forming anedic films or measuring solutions. Photocurrent spectrum and photocurrenttransients suggested that the oxide films on zirconium were duplex layers structure. The internal layerwas ZrO2 and the external layer ZrO2·(H2O)n. The titanium substrates were bombarded with 1×1017~5×1017 ions·cm-2 ofpalladium at the room temperature. The surface composition of implanted electrode and concentration-depth profiles of various elements were measured by AES. The electrored uction processes ofnitrobenzene (NB) in 0.1 mol/L NaOH solution at Pd/Ti electrodes have been investigated by cyclicvoltaivimetry. The results show that the palladium implanted titanium electrodes exhibit a high catalyticactivity in the electroreduction of NB. The NB radical anion, which is the product of one-electronelectroreduction of NB, was detected by ESR in-situ in conjunction with electrochemical methods. Aniline was also detected as a product of …

The cyclic voltammetry, open circuit potential-time curve after poteritiostatic electrolysis, current-time curve at potential step, X-ray diffraction and electron probe microanalysiswere used to investigate the electrode process of Ho(Ⅲ) reduced on iron electrode in molten chloridesand the phases of surface alloy layer. The Ho-Fe alloys are formed at first, and then the metallic holmium is deposited when Ho(Ⅲ) is reduced on iron electrode. The charge transfer is reversible. The free energies of formation for the four inter metallic compounds of Ho-Fe system, the diffusion coefficients and diffusion activation energy of Ho in alloyed cathode are determined.

The electrocatalytic activity for the oxidation of formaldehyde and formic acid ona Sb-modified platinum (Pt/Sbad) was investigated. Results showed that the Pt/Sbad electrode was electrocatalytically more active than a Pt electrode in the anodic oxidation of formaldehyde and formicacid. In the case of formaldehyde, an oxidation peak appeared at a potential of ca. 0.7V. During the oxidation of formic acid, a 4-fold increase in the 1st peak current was observed. The Sb-modified platinum electrode was found to be most electrocatalytically active at a coverage of 0.75±0.05. The electrocatalytic activity of the Pt/Sbad electrode can be best …
