Effects Of Soil Properties On Cp Performance, Cecilia Segretario
Effects Of Soil Properties On Cp Performance, Cecilia Segretario
Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects
This research aims to evaluate the affect of various soil properties on the effectiveness of cathodic protection (CP) in preventing underground pipeline corrosion. Metal coupons of common pipeline materials with applied CP will be mounted in several separate controlled soil environments to manipulate real world underground corrosion scenarios. Each soil environment will have different physical properties by mixing the soil with a prepared chemical solution. The physical properties to be evaluated include pH, resistivity, and moisture content. At the end of a corrosion duration, weight loss method will be used to evaluate the corrosion rate over that period. Additionally, the …

Inspection Program Effectiveness Key Performance Indicator For Pressurized Static Equipment Integrity At Offshore Platform, Teuku Ahmad Haekal, Johny Wahyuadi Soedarsono, Badrul Munir, Muhammad Yudi Masduky Sholihin
Journal of Materials Exploration and Findings
One of the key challenges in asset integrity management system at offshore platform is the lack of visibility regarding performance issues and program effectiveness. Without proper performance measurement systems, it becomes difficult to address positive or negative trends promptly and for management to stay informed about the status and the impact of the inspection program. Therefore, Key Performance Indicator (KPI) is needed to measure inspection program effectiveness to prevent undesirable equipment failures that could lead to Loss of Primary Containment (LOPC) or Process Safety Event (PSE). The developed KPI is the ratio of the number of non-leak inspection findings with …

This study demonstrates the feasibility of using liquid exfoliation of expandable graphite into multilayer exfoliated graphene flakes (EGFs) to form a self-assembled thin film on an air–water interface. The film can coat the surface of additive manufactured (AM) steel substrates to enhance surface properties, specifically AM 316 stainless-steel (AM316), AM 8620 steel (AM8620), and samples of the same alloys made by conventional manufacturing (CM) processes. Liquid exfoliation offers a high yield route for an EGF coating that can cover up to 95% of the sample surface with a single application. The thin, flexible EGFs can coat a rough AM metal …
Galvanic Corrosion On Monel K-500 And 1018 Carbon Steel Couple, John K. Nnyanzi
Galvanic Corrosion On Monel K-500 And 1018 Carbon Steel Couple, John K. Nnyanzi
Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects
The purpose of this research project was to evaluate galvanic damage on 1018 Carbon Steel coupled to Monel K-500 at varying rotation speeds on a rotating cylinder electrode in an aerated solution of ASTM artificial seawater. The work in this project is and attempt to study corrosion behavior for a Monel fastener coupled to a Carbon Steel plate. Polarization curves of each material at different rotation speeds were created to predict the corrosion behavior for a galvanic couple of Carbon Steel and Monel. The Potentiodynamic sweeps predict an increase in the corrosion current density for the galvanic couple when then …
The Examination Of Stress Corrosion Cracking In High Strength Carbon Steel Through Combined Mechanical-Electrochemical Testing, Jacob Sines
Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects
Through the analysis of materials and environments seen in industry a better understanding of the fundamentals behind degradation mechanisms can be observed. The scope of this project was to better understand the fundamentals behind the degradation of high strength pipeline steels in a lab setting to simulate an environment seen in industry. Specifically the degradation mechanisms of high and nearly neutral pH stress corrosion cracking were examined in environments that simulated oil and gas pipelines buried in soil. Experimentation was carried out utilizing X65 carbon steel specimen, a Gamry potentiostat, a CORTEST proof ring, a CORTEST slow strain rate machine, …
