Comprehensive Study On The Structural And Optical Properties Of Bismuth Manganese Oxide Composite Ceramic For Optoelectronic Applications, P. P. Nayak, B. Swain, R. R. Patro, S. S. Hota, O. P. Das, S. Bhuyan
Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals
This work assessed the potential of bismuth manganese oxide composite ceramic for optoelectronic applications by methodically examining its structural, vibrational, and optical characteristics. X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectroscopy provided the coexistence of Bi12MnO20 (sillenite-type) and Bi2Mn4O10 (mullite-type) phases, indicating a deviation from the ideal perovskite structure and suggesting a complex crystallographic nature influencing its functional properties. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy confirmed the modes of vibration of Bi–O and Mn–O bonds that were contained, supporting the structural composition. UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy demonstrated strong optical absorption in the 300 nm to 800 nm range, affirming the suitability of the material for optoelectronic applications. …

Effect Of Compaction Pressure On The Structure And Mechanical Properties Of Functionally Graded Aluminium-Glass Microsphere (Fgagm) Foams Produced By Powder Metallurgy Process, Vicheka Moeun, Seksak Asavavisithchai
Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals
Functionally graded aluminium-glass microsphere (FGAGM) foams were successfully fabricated via powder metallurgy. The influence of compaction pressure on the structural and mechanical properties of the foams was systematically investigated. The study observed that increasing compaction pressure enhanced the green (pre-sintering) density of FGAGM foam, while post-sintering densities exhibited a decreasing trend with higher compaction pressures. The mechanical examination indicated that mechanical properties improved significantly with higher compaction pressures. While higher compaction pressures generally improve mechanical properties, the study identified that excessive pressures could lead to the fracture of GM particles, introducing defects that compromise the foam's structural integrity. Therefore, determining …

Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals
In this work, a bismuth oxide/silver iodide (Bi2O3/AgI) heterojunction photocatalyst was successfully fabricated via a room-temperature ion exchange process using bismuth oxyiodide (BiOI) as a morphology-directing precursor. Building upon our previous work on solvent-modulated BiOI nanostructures, this study employs a chemical transformation route to develop interfacially connected heterostructures while preserving key morphological features. Structural, morphological, and optical characterizations, including X-ray diffraction, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and ultraviolet–visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, provided supporting evidence for the successful formation of Bi2O3/AgI heterojunctions with likely close interfacial contact. The optimized Bi2O3/AgI composite with a 50:50 mass ratio …

Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals
The Nam Tok Khao Pang archaeological site, located in Tha Sao subdistrict, Sai Yok district, Kanchanaburi province, Thailand, is a limestone cave where numerous artifacts, including black-burnished earthenware fragments with in-curving rims, out-curving rims, and carinated bodies, have been discovered. Mineralogical and microstructural analyses using X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) identified quartz (SiO₂) as the dominant mineral phase within a partially sintered silicate matrix. The absence of vitrification and the presence of mineral impurities indicate that the earthenware was fired at temperatures between 900°C and 1000°C. To determine the age of these ceramics, …

Using Obstacle Trenches For Enhancing Microplastic Trapping In Microwells, Teeraphat Kongsaktrakul
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The particle trapping efficiency of microwells is influenced by the fluid flow velocity. If the flow velocity is too slow, trapping will take longer. In contrast, if the flow velocity is too fast, the trapping efficiency will decrease. Therefore, deceleration near the microwells is important for increasing trapping efficiency. The aim of this study is to investigate important factors that affect local flow velocity and trapping efficiency. This includes the presence of obstacle trenches, flow rates, particle concentrations, particle sizes, and surface materials. Two models were investigated and compared: one with triangular obstacle trenches placed in front of the microwells …

Linear Actuator Using Electromagnetic Brake For Damping Modulation In Physical Human-Robot Interaction, Zahid Ullah
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Improving the transparency of high-transmission-ratio linear actuators is essential for enhancing the safety and performance of high-force robotic systems that engage in physical contact with humans in unstructured environments. However, achieving this goal presents significant challenges. A proposed solution for active body weight support systems involves a linear actuator design, combining a high-force unit with an agile, highly back-drivable unit, using an electrorheological-fluid brake. This dissertation introduces an approach that utilizes an electromagnetic (EM) brake with a reduced rotor inertia to address these challenges. The EM brake's increased torque capacity allows for integration with a low-gear-ratio linear transmission. The mini …

Alkali chloride attack on boiler pipe walls is considered the main problem of corrosion in the waste-to-energy (WTE) industry, even though uses superalloy. Electrophoretic deposited (EPD) yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) coating is carried out to protect the Inconel 625 substrate. YSZ is deposited directly both on the Inconel 625 substrate and NiCo-Inconel 625. Corrosion resistance was conducted using the 3.5% NaCl electrochemical test and the hot salt corrosion test at 600°C in alkaline salt media such as NaCl, KCl, and CaCl2. The potentiodynamic polarization curve shows that the YSZ coating deposited on the substrate (single-layer) has a corrosion rate of 0.065 …

An alloy based on Ti–Al–Zr–Nb–V was prepared and its deformation behavior at elevated temperatures was studied. The microstructure and phase of the alloys were characterized by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, thermal analysis, and mechanical testing. The results showed that the Ti–Al–Zr–Nb–V alloy, when stretched, exhibits a superplasticity effect in the range of 975℃ to 1100℃, with an elongation of up to 400%. It was found that superplasticity develops in the temperature region of the α+β→β transition and is accompanied by a change in grain size and redistribution of alloying elements among phases.

This study introduces a new technique to fabricate the reversible poly(PCDA/ZnO) nanocomposites thermochromism. Our preparation process is the solution-mixing method, which is supported by microwave synthesis time instead of ultrasonic bath or stirrer. The presence of ethanol molecules in aqueous media in the solution-mixing method induces dipolar polarization. In addition, the presence of Zn2+ leaking out of the ZnO can produce ionic polarization. These factors affect the shape of poly(PCDA/ZnO) nanocomposites based on their thermochromic properties. The optical properties of poly(PCDA/ZnO) nanocomposite were determined through UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy. The morphology of this nanocomposite was examined by scanning electron microscopy, and …

Porous geopolymers (PG) are attractive due to their simple fabrication and diverse applications. This work presents a method for fabricating PG by using aluminum salt slag (ASS) as a foaming agent and metakaolin (MK) as the precursor. Sodium silicate (Na2SiO3) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) are used as alkali activator solutions. The results show that the PG is fabricated by using the sequence mixing method. ASS was milled to a size of 4 µm, then mixed with an NaOH solution for 30 min. After that, MK and Na2SiO3 solution were added. The weight ratio of Na2SiO3/NaOH and solid/liquid was 2.0 and …

WO3 films were prepared from annealed W films by anodization and annealing at 450℃ for 1 h. The sputtered W films were annealed before anodization at different times for 0.5 h to 2 h, followed by immediate removal from the furnace (quenching) or slow cooling (cool-down). The WO3 films exhibited a different preferred orientation between the (200) and (222) planes. The morphological structure of the WO3 films depended on the annealing time and cooling features of the W films. The WO3 films for the cool-down condition had smaller grains and more pores than the quenching condition. The WO3 films prepared …

Zn metal batteries and capacitors (ZMBs/ZMCs) are gaining significant attention due to their low cost, high safety, and high theoretical capacity. However, the low utilization of Zn metal decreases the coulombic efficiency. Here, we present a novel approach to enhance the conductivity of host materials by utilizing a 3D conductive structural network of copper mesh. The 3D copper mesh serves as a high-conductive matrix and additionally coating it with Zn serves as a Zn source. Finally, a flexible reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was deposited on the Zn-coated copper mesh as an anode protective layer. The conductive copper mesh renders a …
