Characterization Of Low Power Hfo2 Based Switching Devices For In-Memory Computing, Aseel Zeinati May 2023

Characterization Of Low Power Hfo2 Based Switching Devices For In-Memory Computing, Aseel Zeinati

Theses

Oxide based Resistive Random Access Memory (RRAM) devices are investigated as one of the promising non-volatile memories to be used for in-memory computing that will replace the classical von Neumann architecture and reduce the power consumption. These applications required multilevel cell (MLC) characteristics that can be achieved in RRAM devices. One of the methods to achieve this analog switching behavior is by performing an optimized electrical pulse. The RRAM device structure is basically an insulator between two metals as metal-insulator-metal (MIM) structure. Where one of the primary challenges is to assign an RRAM stack with both low power consumption and …

Asic Design To Support Low Power High Voltage Power Supply For Radiation Monitoring Applications, Daniel Rogge Nov 2018

Asic Design To Support Low Power High Voltage Power Supply For Radiation Monitoring Applications, Daniel Rogge

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

A low power high voltage power supply is designed for use in a long duration radiation monitoring system. The supply employs a flexible pulse frequency modulation switching controller implemented in a 0.35 $\mu$m CMOS technology. The controller drives and regulates a flyback transformer driven 12-stage Cockroft-Walton voltage multiplier chain. The chain provides bias for the dynodes of a photomultiplier tube. The supply voltage is selectable via a 12-bit on-chip digital to analog converter. The system is designed for low power operation and immunity to supply voltage variation as the application is battery-powered.

Energy-Efficient And Secure Hardware For Internet Of Things (Iot) Devices, Dinesh Kumar Selvakumaran Jan 2018

Energy-Efficient And Secure Hardware For Internet Of Things (Iot) Devices, Dinesh Kumar Selvakumaran

Theses and Dissertations--Electrical and Computer Engineering

Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of devices that are connected through the Internet to exchange the data for intelligent applications. Though IoT devices provide several advantages to improve the quality of life, they also present challenges related to security. The security issues related to IoT devices include leakage of information through Differential Power Analysis (DPA) based side channel attacks, authentication, piracy, etc. DPA is a type of side-channel attack where the attacker monitors the power consumption of the device to guess the secret key stored in it. There are several countermeasures to overcome DPA attacks. However, most of …

Design And Analysis Of An Asynchronous Microcontroller, Michael Hinds Aug 2016

Design And Analysis Of An Asynchronous Microcontroller, Michael Hinds

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation presents the design of the most complex MTNCL circuit to date. A fully functional MTNCL MSP430 microcontroller is designed and benchmarked against an open source synchronous MSP430. The designs are compared in terms of area, active energy, and leakage energy. Techniques to reduce MTNCL pipeline activity and improve MTNCL register file area and power consumption are introduced. The results show the MTNCL design to have superior leakage power characteristics. The area and active energy comparisons highlight the need for better MTNCL logic synthesis techniques.

A Reconfigurable Digital-To-Analog Converter With Supply Invariant Linearity, Nicholas J. Chiolino Dec 2013

A Reconfigurable Digital-To-Analog Converter With Supply Invariant Linearity, Nicholas J. Chiolino

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

A novel reconfigurable digital-to-analog converter (DAC) with supply independent linearity is presented. The process agnostic converter achieves wide supply range operation and re-configurability by being charge based. This converter consists of a 7-bit parallel digital input control core and an analog "summing" core utilizing charging capacitors with an operational transconductance amplifier in a voltage-follower configuration. This topology is highly configurable to allow for optimization across process voltages, step sizes and low power operation. The specification of the DAC is (1) supply independence (2) low power operation (3) operation up to 200 kHz and (4) conversion control through a DAC enable …

Wide I/O Dram Architecture Utilizing Proximity Communication, Qawi Ibnzayd Harvard Dec 2009

Wide I/O Dram Architecture Utilizing Proximity Communication, Qawi Ibnzayd Harvard

Boise State University Theses and Dissertations

The bandwidth and power consumption of dynamic random access memory, used as the main memory of a computer system, impacts the computer’s execution rate even with the existence of a memory hierarchy. DRAM manufacturers focus on density increases due to the innate price per bit decline of main memory while processor manufacturers continually focus on boosting performance by increasing the number of instructions completed per second. This leads to a performance gap between the microprocessor and DRAM.

Proximity communication promises to increase the I/O density of DRAM products while reducing the power consumption of the main memory system. This thesis …
