The bursty nature of video streaming applications is due to the frame-based structure of video and this has an important impact on the resource requirements of the WLAN, affecting its ability to provide Quality of Service (QoS) particularly under heavily loaded conditions. In this paper we analyse this bursty behaviour in depth. We show how each video frame is queued at the AP causing the packet delay to vary in a sawtooth manner that is related to the frame rate, the number of packets per video frame, and the packet size. A printed triple-band monopole antenna appropriate for use as a terminal antenna in modern wireless multiband systems is proposed. The impedance bandwidth of each band has been optimised using a quasi-Newton technique and the bandwidth includes virtually all wireless bands. Various parameter sweeps are presented which improve our understanding of the antenna, in particular, the effect of groundplane-size and branch-off point on impedance bandwidth and radiation pattern.

In the absence of a dopant or precursor odification, anatase to rutile transformation in synthetic TiO2 sually ccurs at a temperature of 600 700 °C. Conventionally, metal oxide dopants (e.g., Al2O3 nd SiO2 are used o tune the anatase to rutile transformation. A simple methodology is reported here to extend the anatase utile transformation by employing various concentrations of urea. XRD and Raman spectroscopy were used uring thermal treatment. Delay, echo, encoding scheme, and packet loss all influence perceived quality of conversational speech transmitted over packet networks. Therefore, the choice of a buffer algorithm cannot be solely based on statistical loss/delay trade-off metrics. Also subjective “listening tests” or the newer ITU-T PESQ method, which don’t consider the effect of mouth-to-ear delay are inappropriate. We proposed a method for assessing VoIP call quality by extending the ITU-T E-model concept. This method provides a direct link to perceived conversational speech quality by estimating user satisfaction from the combined effect of information loss, delay and echo.

Patients with many different conditions are required to take the management of their condition into their own hands and perform Point of Care Testing (POCT) at home. However, this raises quality control issues that would not arise in a clinical setting, since the sample acquisition and testing procedures are not overseen by professional hospital staff. This paper describes a printed rectangular-plate monopole fed by microstrip line. The effect of varying the plate width, feed-gap height, and feedline width on the impedance bandwidth is examined. It is shown that for a fixed ground-plane size, that optimization of these parameters can yield an impedance bandwidth ratio of 4.3:1, without using any broadbanding techniques.

Explicit expressions are presented that describe the input-output behaviour of a nonlinear system in both the frequency and the time domain. The expressions are based on a set of coefficients that do not depend on the input to the system and are universal for a given system. The anharmonic oscillator is chosen as an example and is discussed for different choices of its physical parameters. The use of the Internet to make phone calls is growing in popularity as the Voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) allows users to make phone calls virtually free of charge. The increased uptake of broadband services by domestic users will further increase the use of VoIP telephony. Furthermore, the emergence of low cost wireless networks (namely IEEE 802.11a/b/g WLANs) is expected to bring wireless VoIP into the mainstream.
