Multicarrier Modulation Using Discrete Fractional Fourier Transform, Amir Raeisi Nafchi Apr 2022

Multicarrier Modulation Using Discrete Fractional Fourier Transform, Amir Raeisi Nafchi

Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs

The focus of the research was to investigate the application of the discrete fractional Fourier transform (DFRFT) in communication systems. We investigated the compactness of the Gauss-Hermite like eigenvectors of the DFRFT and showed how a multi-carrier modulation system could benefit from it. This led to identifying an affine DFRFT. We proved the circular convolution property for the proposed DFRFT. Using this affine transform, we were able to design an orthogonal frequency division multiplexer (OFDM) communication system. In the process of implementing the OFDM, we developed a method for fast computation of the DFRFT using the chirp-z transform. Using the …

Matlab Modeling Of Ofdm Modulation Technique Across A 24 Khz, 48 Khz, And 3 Mhz Bandwidth In The High-Frequency Radio Band (3-30) Mhz, Josiah Myer, Tyler Collins, Sarah Taylor, Natalia Anglero Jan 2021

Matlab Modeling Of Ofdm Modulation Technique Across A 24 Khz, 48 Khz, And 3 Mhz Bandwidth In The High-Frequency Radio Band (3-30) Mhz, Josiah Myer, Tyler Collins, Sarah Taylor, Natalia Anglero

Faculty-Sponsored Student Research & Capstones

The goal of this project is to use MATLAB to model orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation technique across 24 kHz, 48 kHz, and 3 MHz bandwidths in the high frequency (HF) radio band (3-30 MHz). The purpose of our design is to make HF long distance communication faster and more reliable so that every part of the world, including the most remote parts, will have access to high speed, long distance wireless communication. Our MATLAB model will allow us to modify the bandwidth, carrier frequency, modulation type, signal to noise ratio (SNR), and image size to determine which combination …

Distance Estimation Using Ofdm Signals For Ultrasonic Positioning, Kyman Huang Jun 2020

Distance Estimation Using Ofdm Signals For Ultrasonic Positioning, Kyman Huang

Master's Theses

This paper describes a method of estimating distance via Time-of-Flight (TOF) measurement using ultrasonic Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) signals. Using OFDM signals allows the signals and their sub-carriers to remain orthogonal to each other while continuously transmitting. This estimation method is based on the change of phase of a traveling wave as it propagates through a medium (air for ultrasonic signals). By using signals containing multiple tones, the phase change between each frequency component is slightly different. This phase difference is dependent on the distance traveled and can thus be used to estimate distance. This paper studies the impact …

An Optical Design Configuration For Wireless Data Transmission, Seyed Mohammad Amin Motahari Bidgoli Mar 2016

An Optical Design Configuration For Wireless Data Transmission, Seyed Mohammad Amin Motahari Bidgoli

FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The concept of 2D barcodes is of great relevance for use in wireless data transmission between handheld electronic devices. In a typical setup, any file on a cell phone for example can be transferred to a second cell phone through a series of images on the LCD which are then captured and decoded through the camera of the second cell phone. In this research, a new approach for data modulation in 2D barcodes is introduced, and its performance is evaluated in comparison to other standard methods of barcode modulation. In the proposed method, Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) modulation is …

Monostatic Airborne Synthetic Aperture Radar Using Commercial Wimax Transceivers In The License-Exempt Spectrum, Kai Liu Nov 2014

Monostatic Airborne Synthetic Aperture Radar Using Commercial Wimax Transceivers In The License-Exempt Spectrum, Kai Liu

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

The past half-century witnessed an evolution of synthetic aperture radar (SAR). Boosted by digital signal processing (DSP), a variety of SAR imaging algorithms have been developed, in which the wavenumber domain algorithm is mature for airborne SAR and independent of signal waveforms. Apart from the algorithm development, there is a growing interest in how to acquire the raw data of targets’ echoes before the DSP for SAR imaging in a cost-effective way. For the data acquisition, various studies over the past 15 years have shed light on utilizing the signal generated from the ubiquitous broadband wireless technology – orthogonal frequency …

Secure Ofdm System Design For Wireless Communications, Hao Li Jun 2013

Secure Ofdm System Design For Wireless Communications, Hao Li

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Wireless communications is widely employed in modern society and plays an increasingly important role in people's daily life. The broadcast nature of radio propagation, however, causes wireless communications particularly vulnerable to malicious attacks, and leads to critical challenges in securing the wireless transmission. Motivated by the insufficiency of traditional approaches to secure wireless communications, physical layer security that is emerging as a complement to the traditional upper-layer security mechanisms is investigated in this dissertation. Five novel techniques toward the physical layer security of wireless communications are proposed. The first two techniques focus on the security risk assessment in wireless networks …

On-Chip Implementation Of High Resolution High Speed Floating Point Adder/Subtractor With Reducing Mean Latency For Ofdm, Rozita Teymourzadeh, Yazan Samir, Nooshin Mahdavi, Masuri Othman Dec 2009

On-Chip Implementation Of High Resolution High Speed Floating Point Adder/Subtractor With Reducing Mean Latency For Ofdm, Rozita Teymourzadeh, Yazan Samir, Nooshin Mahdavi, Masuri Othman

Dr. Rozita Teymourzadeh, CEng.

Fast Fourier transform (FFT) is widely applied in OFDM trance-receiver communications system. Hence Efficient FFT algorithm is always considered. This paper proposed FPGA realization of high resolution high speed low latency floating point adder/subtractor for FFT in OFDM trance-receiver. The design was implemented for 32 bit pipelined adder/subtractor which satisfied IEEE-754 Standard for floating-point Arithmetic. The design was focused on the trade-off between the latency and speed improvement as well as resolution and silicon area for the chip implementation. In order to reduce the critical path and decrease the latency, the novel structure was designed and investigated. Consequently, synthesis report …
