Existing commercial solutions are often proprietary and expensive, limiting their accessibility for educational, research, and rapid prototyping applications. This work expands upon the existing open-source Atinverter platform by increasing its operating voltage capability, integrating bidirectional power flow, and implementing telemetry systems suitable for microgrid …

Performance Comparison Of A Two-Level And A Three-Level 1500v Three-Phase Grid-Tied Solar Inverter, Shawn Sproles May 2026

Performance Comparison Of A Two-Level And A Three-Level 1500v Three-Phase Grid-Tied Solar Inverter, Shawn Sproles

Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Undergraduate Honors Theses

With the global switch to renewable energy sources, photovoltaic energy has become an integral source to harvest from. When solar panels convert sunlight into a DC voltage, a grid-tied inverter is needed to transform this DC voltage into an AC voltage to interface with the AC grid. The most widely used topologies for grid-tied solar inverters are two-level three-phase inverters and three-level NPC three-phase inverters. Compared to two-level inverters, three-level NPC inverters have advantages such as lower EMI, lower THD, and lower switching losses. Moreover, three-level NPC inverters are shown to have higher efficiency in low-voltage applications at medium to …

Investigating The Harmonic Content Of A Pwm Inverter With Varying Modulation Index, Peter Makolo Oct 2025

Investigating The Harmonic Content Of A Pwm Inverter With Varying Modulation Index, Peter Makolo

Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)

Photovoltaic energy is a clean and endless vital renewable energy. In order to generate electricity from solar energy an inverter is required to transform the direct current into alternating current. Also, with the emerging of new ultra-high voltage direct current transmission technology, the rectification and inverters play a great role. Most three-phase two-level inverters draw harmonics that cause heat dissipation, waveform distortions hence affect the electrical loads. Knowing that Total Harmonic Distortion content of voltage source inverter is important and must be within the allowable range. Several schemes are suggested to mitigate the distortion in order to produce as much …

The module was built with a physically modifiable control stage and a power stage constituting …

Investigation And Characterization Of Silicon Carbide Power Mosfets, Vincent Hassman May 2025

Investigation And Characterization Of Silicon Carbide Power Mosfets, Vincent Hassman

Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Undergraduate Honors Theses

As engineers constantly seek to make solar power systems smaller, cheaper, and more efficient, technological enhancements in the electronics that run them are required. One of the most fundamental electronic components of any solar system is the inverter, which takes DC current from the solar cell and turns it into AC current that is supported by the grid. This is done with metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistors (MOSFETs). Through more advanced MOSFET technology, inverters can switch at a higher frequency, increasing efficiency and reducing size and cost.

MOSFET performance can be enhanced by swapping the traditional silicon substrate with …

Short-Circuit Modeling And Instantaneous Overvoltage Protection Of Renewable Farms, Shah Mohazzem Hossain

All Dissertations

The existing utility grid is experiencing a paradigm shift in electricity generation due to a significant penetration of renewable energy sources. This shift is primarily driven by the large-scale integration of solar and wind energy farms, particularly in the transmission network, where these farms are typically accompanied by battery energy storage in a hybrid configuration to overcome source intermittency and improve reliability. Such renewable farms comprise numerous inverters, pad-mounted transformers, collector feeders, and dc-side components depending on the generation-source type. Additionally, inverters within these farms exhibit distinct operating modes, such as `grid-following'(GFL) and `grid-forming'(GFM), as well as fault control modes, …

Improvement Of Stability Of A Grid-Connected Inverter With An Lcl Filter By Robust Strong Active Damping And Model Predictive Control, Seungyong Lee

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This study addresses development and implementation of robust control methods for a three-phase grid-connected voltage source inverter (VSI) accompanied by an inductive-capacitive-inductive (LCL) filter. A challenge of current control for the VSI is LCL filter resonance near to the control stability boundary, which interacts with the inverter control switching actions and creates the possibility of instability. In general, active damping is needed to stabilize the system and ensure robust performance in steady-state and dynamic responses. While many active damping methods have been proposed to resolve this issue, capacitor-current-feedback active damping has been most widely used for its simple implementation.

Optimization Of Pv Powered Spd Switchable Glazing To Minimise Probability Of Loss Of Power Supply, Aritra Ghosh, Brian Norton

Articles

Suspended particle device (SPD) glazing is an electrically actuated switchable glazing. It requires alternate current (AC) power supply to switch from opaque to transparent state. To power this glazing using PV device requires inverter. Optimization of AC powered switchable SPD glazing using photovoltaic (PV) device has been evaluated using loss of power supply probability (LPSP). Electrically switchable direct current (DC) powered electrochromic glazing was also considered in this investigation as it doesn't need any inverter to couple with PV. It is concluded that behaviour of these glazings is the dominant factor in performance optimization outweighting than azimuthal orientation and inclination …
