Energy-Based Deep Incomplete Multi-View Clustering, Ziyu Wang, Yiming Du, Rui Ning, Lusi Li Jan 2025

Energy-Based Deep Incomplete Multi-View Clustering, Ziyu Wang, Yiming Du, Rui Ning, Lusi Li

Computer Science Faculty Publications

Incomplete multi-view clustering (IMVC) deals with real-world scenarios where certain views are partially missing, posing significant challenges to effective clustering. Most existing IMVC approaches face a trade-off: imputation-free methods suffer from information bias and imbalance, while full-imputation methods risk introducing and propagating noise. To overcome these limitations, we propose Energy-Based Deep Incomplete Multi-View Clustering (Energy-DIMC), a novel selective-imputation framework that leverages energy-based models (EBMs) to guide reliable imputations and robust clustering. EBMs assess data compatibility by assigning lower energy to more coherent structures, effectively modeling complex inter-view and inter-sample dependencies. Inspired by EBMs, Energy-DIMC integrates four key components: 1) a …

VMASC Publications

Opportunistic or anypath routing protocols are focused on improving the performance of traditional routing in wireless mesh networks. They do so by leveraging the broadcast nature of the wireless medium and the spatial diversity of the network. Using a set of neighboring nodes, instead of a single specific node, as the next hop forwarder is a crucial aspect of opportunistic routing protocols, and the selection of the forwarder set plays a vital role in their performance. However, most opportunistic routing protocols consider a single transmission rate and power for the nodes, which limits their potential. To address this limitation, this …

Continuity Of Formal Power Series Products In Nonlinear Control Theory, W. Steven Gray, Mathias Palmstrøm, Alexander Schmeding

Electrical & Computer Engineering Faculty Publications

Formal power series products appear in nonlinear control theory when systems modeled by Chen–Fliess series are interconnected to form new systems. In fields like adaptive control and learning systems, the coefficients of these formal power series are estimated sequentially with real-time data. The main goal is to prove the continuity and analyticity of such products with respect to several natural (locally convex) topologies on spaces of locally convergent formal power series in order to establish foundational properties behind these technologies. In addition, it is shown that a transformation group central to describing the output feedback connection is in fact an …

8-Plate Multi-Resonant Coupling Using A Class-E2 Power Converter For Misalignments In Capacitive Wireless Power Transfer, Yashwanth Bezawada, Shirshak K. Dhali

Electrical & Computer Engineering Faculty Publications

Misalignment is a common issue in wireless power transfer systems. It shifts the resonant frequency away from the operating frequency that affects the power flow and efficiency from the charging station to the load. This work proposes a novel capacitive wireless power transfer (CPT) using an 8-plate multi-resonant capacitive coupling to minimize the effect of misalignments. A single-active switch class-E2 power converter is utilized to achieve multi-resonance through the selection of different resonant inductors. Simulations show a widening of the resonant frequency band which offers better performance than a regular 4-plate capacitive coupling for misalignments. The hardware results of …

Energy Renewal: Isothermal Utilization Of Environmental Heat Energy With Asymmetric Structures, James Weifu Lee

Chemistry & Biochemistry Faculty Publications

Through the research presented herein, it is quite clear that there are two thermodynamically distinct types (A and B) of energetic processes naturally occurring on Earth. Type A, such as glycolysis and the tricarboxylic acid cycle, apparently follows the second law well; Type B, as exemplified by the thermotrophic function with transmembrane electrostatically localized protons presented here, does not necessarily have to be constrained by the second law, owing to its special asymmetric function. This study now, for the first time, numerically shows that transmembrane electrostatic proton localization (Type-B process) represents a negative entropy event with a local protonic entropy …

In this study, we fabricated and characterized uniform multi-cation perovskite FAxMA1−xPbI3 films. We used the dynamic spin-coating method to control the cation ratio of the film by gradually increasing the FA+, which replaced the MA+ in the films. When the FA+ concentration was lower than xFA ~0.415 in the films, the stability of the multi-cation perovskite improved. Above this concentration, the film exhibited δ-phase FAPbI3 in the FAxMA1−xPbI3 films. The formation of δ-phase FAPbI3 disturbed the homogeneity of the photoluminescence spatial distribution and suppressed the absorption spectral bandwidth …

Increasing electrode thickness is one route to improve the energy density of lithium-ion battery cells. However, restricted Li+ transport in the electrolyte phase through the porous microstructure of thick electrodes limits the ability to achieve high current densities and rates of charge/discharge with these high energy cells. In this work, processing routes to mitigate transport restrictions were pursued. The electrodes used were comprised of only active material sintered together into a porous pellet. For one of the electrodes, comparisons were done between using ice-templating to provide directional porosity and using sacrificial particles during processing to match the geometric density …

The fluid models are frequently used to describe a non-thermal plasma such as a streamer discharge. The required electron transport data and rate coefficients for the fluid model are parametrized using the local field approximation (LFA) in first order models and the local-mean-energy approximation (LMEA) in second order models. We performed Monte Carlo simulations in Nitrogen gas with step changes in the E/N (reduced electric field) to study the behavior of the transport properties in the transient phase. During the transient phase of the simulation, we extract the instantaneous electron mean energy, which is different from the steady state mean …
