Wildfires could pose a significant danger to electrical transmission lines and cause considerable losses to the power grids and residents nearby. The installed capacity of wind turbines in Ireland increased from a value of 2,250 MW in 2014 to 3,318 MW in 2017, a 43% increase in the four years, supported through climate mitigation policies. The main aim of this study is to determine if the increase in wind turbine installed capacity is impacting on efforts to reduce CO2 emissions. The study utilises a review methodology. The findings show that the steady rise in wind turbine installed capacity year-on-year is not reflected in the Irish CO2 g/kWh energy benchmark. Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) caused failures are major reliability issues in IC industry. Device modeling for ESD conditions is necessary to evaluate ESD robustness in simulation. Although SPICE model is accurate and efficient for circuit simulations in most cases, devices under ESD conditions operate in abnormal status. SPICE model cannot cover the device operating region beyond normal operation. Thermal failure is one of the main reasons to cause device failure under ESD conditions. A compact model is developed to predict thermal failure with circuit simulators. If the obstacle of self-interference can be sufficiently overcome, it is possible to double the spectral efficiency of an equivalent time or frequency division duplexed system. Spread spectrum techniques can reduce self-interference by using orthogonal or pseudo-orthogonal codes to encode the transmit signal and decode the receive signal. Given that there are numerous amounts of unlabeled data available for usage in training neural networks, it is desirable to implement a neural network architecture and training paradigm to maximize the ability of the latent space representation. Through multiple perspectives of the latent space using adversarial learning and autoencoding, data requirements can be reduced, which improves learning ability across domains. Permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) are a promising candidate for the push to electrify transportation. They have many benefits over DC motors, however they require advanced control techniques that use accurate rotor position, to achieve optimal operation. Using Field Oriented Control (FOC) and hall sensors allows for a low-cost, reliable solution for PMSM drives.

In this work, a three-phase two-leg T-type active power filter topology is investigated when a three-level hysteresis band current modulation technique is applied. The three-phase two-leg T-type configuration which utilizes eight switching devices together split DC link capacitor banks is able to improve the reliability of the system as well as effectively reduces the power losses. The compensation of the current harmonics at each phase are achieved successfully with the control of phase-a and phase-b. Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is a simple, non-invasive and ionizing radiation-free imaging technology with potential application to medical diagnostics such as lung function, cardiac output, breast cancer, and cysts. Of the above imaging techniques, lung imaging has developed into the prime application for EIT. Because it presents an ill-posed inverse problem, EIT requires high-precision instrumentation and this thesis studies a new method for obtaining a high-precision current source and voltmeter for EIT. A core limitation in existing wireless technologies is the scarcity of spectrum, to support the exponential increase in Internet-connected and multimedia-capable mobile devices and the increasing demand for bandwidth-intensive services. As a solution, Dynamic Spectrum Access policies are being ratified to promote spectrum sharing for various spectrum bands and to improve the spectrum utilization. This poses an equally challenging problem of enforcing these spectrum policies. The distributed and dynamic nature of policy violations necessitates the use of autonomous agents to implement efficient and agile enforcement systems.
