Mobility, resistivity, and total impurity concentration of several purchased p-type silicon samples with known resistivities were measured by Hall effect, experiments utilizing the Van Der Pauw method. The silicon samples will serve as Hall effect standards for future measurements on other semiconductor materials, particularly gallium nitride ion cluster beam (ICB) deposited thin films. The samples which were Freshly etched with hydrofluoric acid had measurement values of 455 cm ² / V.sec, 45.9 Ω cm, and 2.6 X 1014 cm³ for mobility, resistivity, and total impurity concentration, respectively. It classifies different systems, indicates the strongpoints and weakness of each, along with some applications.

One method, The Single Dwell Serial PN Acquisition System is then focused on in detail. The detail includes analysis of standard version, derivation of the mean time to acquire, the variance, the probability of detection and the probability of a false alarm.

This research discuss the TTL integrated circuit failure rates, and provides information on the effects of temperature, device complexity and packaging on TTL failure rates under storage condition of 100% R.H. (Relative Humidity) and 100°C and no added humidity at 100°C. Other factors which can affect failure rate are also discussed, including designs, materials process.

This thesis deals with the nervous system simulation. The Hodgkin-Huxley model and Stein's model are used as basic tools. The author has tried to describe some practical problems by mathematical models.

First, the horse-shoe crab eye is investigated. Light intensity is reported to the brain by the firing frequency of the photoreceptoe. A Poisson process is used to simulate the stimulus to the receptor. The result of the stochastic model coincides with the theoretical one: receptor overlapping decreases the resolving power of the eye; and the lateral inhibition compensates the effect of overlapping.

A theoretical model and numerical investigation of the directive gain of a dielectric slab-wedge radiator is presented. The model is based on a union of the classical dielectric slab equations, local mode theory, and equivalent current distribution treatments of the truncated dielectric slab and wedge geometries.

The far field is developed from the sum of two current distributions. The slab region, up to the transition plane between slab and wedge, is replaced by equivalent electric and magnetic surface current densities. The wedge contribution is developed from a volume polarization current distribution.

Realization of millimeter-wave systems on suspended striplines necessitates transitions from such lines into waveguides for measurements and other purposes. Transition can be obtained through coupling TE10 mode in the waveguide into a TEM mode in the suspended stripline. A continuous transition using tapered complementary unilateral finline and two gradually increasing conducting tapered ridges is studied here. The tapered region is modelled using a number of uniform sections with gradually changing cross sections. To accomplish this, accelerated life testing was done on the soft glass and the hard glass liquid crystal display units at 77 C and 85 C temperature without any added humidity or voltage.

The deposition of GaN film onto glass substrate, using the Reactive - Ionized Cluster Beam deposition technique was studied. The creation of clusters is dictated by various parameters such as the vacuum pressure inside and outside the crucible, the crucible temperature, and the nozzle diameter of the crucible. An experimental reactor was designed and constructed to generate atomic nitrogen by making use of a microwave induced discharge to dissociate molecular nitrogen into atomic nitrogen. The concentration and the flow rate of the atomic nitrogen arriving at the substrate were measured by titration with nitrous oxide. The modified MRC 8800 R.F. triode sputtering system was used for mercury vapor sputtering (Hg1-xCdx)Te targets onto N-type (111) silicon substrates with a resistivity of 70 to 90 ohm-cm. Deposition rates were in the 2.6 to 3.6 A/sec range, A Hall mobility value, at 87°K, of 2550 Cm2/V•sec with a carrier concentration of 7(1015) cm-3 was obtained for 9 μm thick films with an X-value of 0.25. A frequency dependent analytical expression for the input impedance of a thin wire antenna is obtained using diakoptic theory. In diakoptic theory the linear antenna is seperated into electrically short segments where each segment is treated as a two-port network. This approach eliminates the need for an integral equation formulation. An impedance matrix is found which characterizes coupling between all segments. A self-adapting, non-real time method for detecting arrhythmias in single channel Exercise ECG is described. Linear and non-linear digital filtering techniques are used to remove additive noise. A time-varying threshold technique is used to detect R-waves based on amplitude. Feature extraction and matched filter methods are used to classify QRS-waves into existing types, or to create new types. The program works on digitized data from floppy disk and plots all data along with classification results on ReGis graphics terminal or printer. This work will continue so that the system will be capable of processing three-channel ECG in real-time.

The first part of the thesis describes the performance of digital Hilbert-transformers and Differentiators that are optimized in a determined bandwidth. These digital filters are used to build a digital Klapper-Kratt detector.
