Through silicon vias (TSVs) enable 3-dimensional (3D) integrated circuits (ICs), which have the potential to reduce the power consumption, interconnect length and overall communication latency in modern nanoelectronics systems. High-speed signal transmission channels through stacked silicon substrates are critical for 3D heterogeneous integration. This work presents systematic analyses of fabricated 3D IC test structures. This includes test structure design, fabrication, experimental characterization, equivalent circuit modeling and full wave simulations for high-speed signal transmission of the TSV based 3D IC channels.

The ability of traditional active sonar processing methods to detect targets is often limited by clutter and reverberation from ocean environments. Similarly, multipath arrivals from radiating sources such as ships and submarines are received at sensors in passive sonar systems. Reverberation and multipath signals introduce constructive and destructive interference patterns in received spectrograms in both active and passive sonar applications that vary with target range and frequency. The characterization and use of interference phenomena can provide insights into environmental parameters and target movement in conjunction with standard processing methods including spectrograms and array beamforming.

In this paper, we present the analysis and simulation evaluation of a cognitive radio network employing a distributed beamforming technique with imperfect phase synchronization in the presence of a primary receiver. Our system model consists of a group of cognitive transmitters, each with an ideal isotropic antenna and equal transmit power, communicating with a secondary receiver in the farfield. Psychological analysis related to voluntary reciprocal trust games were obtained using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) hyperscanning for 44 pairs of strangers throughout 36 trust games (TG) and 16 control games (CG). Hidden Markov models (HMMs) are proposed to train and classify the fMRI data acquired from these brain regions and extract the essential features of the initial decision of the first player to trust or not trust the second player. This paper presents an analysis of the acoustic emissions emitted by an underway REMUS-100 autonomous underwater vehicle(AUV) that were obtained near Honolulu Harbor, HI using a fixed, bottom-mounted horizontal line array (HLA). Spectral analysis,beamforming, and cross-correlation facilitate identification of independent sources of noise originating from the AUV. Fusion of navigational records from the AUV with acoustic data from the HLA allows for an aspect-dependent presentation of calculated source levels of the strongest propulsion tone.

Matched filters are used in radar systems to identify echo signals embedded in noise. By using matched filters, range and Doppler information about the target can be extracted from the reflected signal. The use of matched filters in high frequency radars has the effect of increasing the cost and complexity of these systems. This paper presents a novel motor speed measurement method and experimental results using the fast Fourier transform (FFT). Motor speed is obtained using the square wave output signal of a speed sensor. In the proposed method, the speed can be measured in a wide range, and transient speed changes can also be clearly observed. The experiments were conducted during start-up and in steady state. The sampled speed data were transformed to frequency spectrums using the FFT. The frequency, which corresponds to the maximum amplitude in the spectrum, was used to calculate the motor speed. In super-resolution (SR), a set of degraded low-resolution (LR) images are used to reconstruct a higher-resolution image that suffers from acquisition degradations. One way to boost SR images visual quality is to use restoration filters to remove reconstructed images artifacts. Super-resolution (SR) refers to reconstructing a single high resolution (HR) image from a set of subsampled, blurred and noisy low resolution (LR) images. The reconstructed image suffers from degradations such as blur, aliasing, photo-detector noise and registration and fusion error. Wiener filter can be used to remove artifacts and enhance the visual quality of the reconstructed images. The waveguide invariant summarizes the pattern of constructive and destructive interference between acoustic modes propagating in the ocean waveguide. For many sonar signal-processing schemes, it is essential to know the correct numerical value for the waveguide invariant. While conventional beamforming can estimate the ratio between the waveguide invariant and the range to the source, it cannot unambiguously separate the two terms. In the present work, striationbased beamforming is developed. It is shown that the striation-based beamformer can be used to produce an estimate for the waveguide invariant that is independent of the range. Simulation results are presented.

Detection of chemical plumes in hyperspectral data is a problem having solutions that focus on spectral information. These solutions neglect the presence of the spatial information in the scene. The spatial information is exploited in this work by assignment of prior probabilities to neighborhood configurations of signal presence or absence. These probabilities are leveraged in a total probability approach to testing for signal presence in a pixel of interest. Approximations made in the traditional signal model for synthetic aperture radar (SAR) processing cause defocusing of the radar images when the system operates under conditions where the approximations lose validity. This dissertation investigates a number of these approximations and presents algorithmic improvements based on generalizations of the approxmations of the SAR signal model. Cyclical patterns are common in signals that originate from natural systems such as the human body and man-made machinery. Often these cyclical patterns are not perfectly periodic. In that case, the signals are called pseudo-periodic or quasi-periodic and can be modeled as a sum of time-varying sinusoids, whose frequencies, phases, and amplitudes change slowly over time. Each time-varying sinusoid represents an individual rhythmical component, called a partial, that can be characterized by three parameters: frequency, phase, and amplitude. Dr. Dolittle Project: A Framework for Classification and Understanding of Animal Vocalizations

This paper demonstrates a speech enhancement system based on an efficient auditory coding approach, coding of time-relative structure using spikes. The spike coding method can more compactly represent the non-stationary characteristics of speech signals than the Fourier transform or wavelet transform. Enhancement is accomplished through the use of MMSE thresholding on the spike code. Experimental results show that compared with the spectral domain logSTSA filter, both the subjective spectrogram evaluation and objective SSNR improvement for the proposed approach is better in suppressing noise in high noise situations, with fewer musical artifacts.P

However, GPS may be rendered unavailable by jamming, disruption of satellites, or simply by signal shadowing in urban environments. Thus, this thesis considers fusion of Inertial Navigation Systems (INS) and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexed (OFDM) signals of opportunity (SOOP) for navigation.
