This paper presents an optimization analysis for energy and power management in microgrids with renewable energy resources and diesel generators. Dynamic Programming (DP) algorithm and the simplex method have been used to minimize the total daily cost of the system and also maximize the total efficiency of the energy storage system during charge and discharge. the algorithm is validated on a hybrid system for military forward operating base camps that contain a PV array, wind generator, hydrogen-Based fuel cell, batteries and diesel generators. © 2012 IEEE.

Although there are some exceptions, a distribution systems course is not part of a typical undergraduate curriculum. the course is usually taught at the graduate level. In this paper a technical review of the integration of a Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) in a distributed generation network is presented. Although the primary task of UPQC is to minimize grid voltage and load current disturbances along with reactive and harmonic power compensation, additional functionalities such as compensation of voltage interruption and active power transfer to the load and grid have also been identified. Connection methodologies with their advantages and disadvantages are also described. Recent improvements in capacity expansion techniques and future trends for the application of UPQC in distributed modes are also identified.

This paper presents an optimal power control strategy for an autonomous microgrid operation based on a real-time self-tuning method. The purpose of this work is to improve the quality of power supply where Distributed Generation (DG) units are connected to the grid. Dynamic response and harmonics distortion are the two main performance parameters which are considered in this work, particularly when the microgrid is islanded. Distributed generation is becoming increasingly prevalent on power grids around the world. Conventional designs and grid operations are not always sufficient for handling the implementation of distributed generation units; the new generation may result in undesirable operating conditions, or system failure. This paper investigates the primary issues involved with the implementation of distributed generation and maintaining the integrity of the power grid. The issues addressed include power flow, system protections, voltage regulation, intermittency, harmonics, and islanding. The challenges facing the operation of intermittent power sources, such as wind power, in capacity-limited microgrids are discussed. Solutions are explored for stable operation of the microgrid in islanded mode in the presence of wind power generations.
