This paper proposes a dual-band left-handed circularly polarized triangular-patch array that is developed for land vehicle mobile system aimed at mobile satellite communications. The array consists of six tip-truncated triangular patches, which the first three patches are used for reception and the second three patches are used for transmission purpose. Each of three-patches has a beam pattern that can be switched in three different 120°-coverage beam in azimuth-cut plane at a minimum targeted gain at a desired elevation angle. We have studied utilization of essential clove oil, extracted from clove buds by hydrodistillation, as preservative in edible packaging technology. Preservative of essential clove oil was applied on chopped papaya fruits by using two methods, namely spray and brush. The effects of concentration of clove oil from 0.05 to 0.20% on the preservation of papaya fruits (Carica papaya L.) at room temperature (25 °C) were also evaluated. Physicochemical and in vitro microbiological activities on the papaya fruits that were stored at 25 oC and 85-90% relative humidity were investigated in details. A mixed ionic–electronic conductor based on nanofibrillated cellulose composited with poly(3,4-ethylene-dioxythiophene):poly(styrene-sulfonate) along with high boiling point solvents is demonstrated in bulky electrochemical devices. The high electronic and ionic conductivities of the resulting nanopaper are exploited in devices which exhibit record values for the charge storage capacitance (1F) in supercapacitors and transconductance (1S) in electrochemical transistors.

The slot antenna backed by the substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity usually demonstrates very narrow bandwidth. In this paper, we extend the interpretation to our original dual mode SIW ring slot antenna so that a broadband radiation property based on the TE102 mode is unveiled for the first time. Through the experimental verification, over 12% bandwidth is conveniently achieved. The realized gain reaches over 7 dB. Its broadband working principle is studied in details. Simulated and measured data are both presented to verify the proposed ideas.

Avalanche photodiodes (APDs) are essential components in quantum key distribution systems and active imaging systems requiring both ultrafast response time to measure photon time of flight and high gain to detect low photon flux. The internal gain of an APD can improve system signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Excess noise is typically kept low through the selection of material with intrinsically low excess noise, using separate-absorption-multiplication (SAM) heterostructures, or taking advantage of the dead-space effect using thin multiplication regions. Accurate modeling of acoustic propagation in the ocean waveguide is important to SONAR-performance prediction, and requires, particularly in shallow water environments, characterizing the bottom reflection loss with a precision that databank-based modeling cannot achieve. Recent advances in the technology of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV) make it possible to envision a survey system for seabed characterization composed of a short array mounted on a small AUV. The bottom power reflection coefficient (and the related reflection loss) can be estimated passively by beamforming the naturally occurring marine ambient-noise acoustic field recorded by a vertical line array of hydrophones. In order to further reduce the size of today’s power converters, wide bandgap semiconductor technologies are being explored. These devices, such as silicon carbide (SiC), have been shown to outperform their silicon counterparts when used in high frequency switching, high temperature, and high voltage applications. These properties make them highly desirable in the bidirectional dual active bridge power converter. Being an isolated converter topology, the dual active bridge employs a transformer to provide step-up/step-down functionality and galvanic isolation for the converter. Coordinated charging of plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) can effectively mitigate the negative effects imposed on the power distribution grid by uncoordinated charging. Simultaneously, coordinated charging algorithms can accommodate the PEV user’s needs in terms of desired state-of-charge and charging time. In this work, the problem of tracking an arbitrary power profile, by coordinated charging of PEVs, is formulated as a discrete scheduling process, while accounting for the heterogeneity in charging rates and restricting the charging to only the maximum rated power. In this thesis an intra prediction algorithm is proposed that terminates complete full search prediction for the CU and is replaced by CU early termination algorithm which determines the complexity of the CU block and then decision is made to further split or non-split the CU. In this thesis, a low power, high frequency memristor emulator has been designed. The purpose of emulator circuit is to mimic the behavior of a memristor. The circuit consists of a summing amplifier, an integrator and a multiplier. The circuit has been implemented using commercial off the shelf (COTS) components in Keysight ADS simulation tool. For CMOS implementation, the emulator circuit has been designed using IBM 0.18um technology. The design of each circuit has been explained in this work. Recent studies into soft organic electronics have burgeoned as a result of discoveries of conducting polymers such as polyaniline, polythiophene, and polypyrrole. However, in order to make these conducting polymers suitable for in vivo soft organic electronics, they must be developed so that they can be biocompatible and provide accurate sensing. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) systems generate two dimensional images of a target area using RF energy as opposed to light waves used by cameras. When cloud cover or other optical obstructions prevent camera imaging over a target area, SAR can be substituted to generate high resolution images. In this paper, the architecture and implementation of an embedded controller for a steering based semi-autonomous collision avoidance system on a 1/10th scale model is presented. In addition, the development of a 2D hardware-in-the-loop simulator with vehicle dynamics based on the bicycle model is described.
