Automated Synthesis Of Generalized Reversible Cascades Using Genetic Algorithms, Martin Lukac, Mikhail Pivtoraiko, Alan Mishchenko, Marek Perkowski

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Publications and Presentations

We propose an automated synthesis of Reversible logic (RL) circuits using Darwinian and Lamarckian Genetic Algorithms (GA). Our designs are in a form of cascades of generalized gates which generalize factorized Exclusive-Or-Sum-of-Products (ESOP) circuits. GA can be used to explore the problem space of combinational functions and here it is used to evolve reversible logic circuits. We emphasize the role of problem encoding - a well-designed encoding leads to improved results. Our method with well-encoded circuits is compared to standard method on classical benchmarks in GA, and shows good results for synthesis of both random functions and benchmark functions with …

Logic Synthesis For Regular Layout Using Satisfiability, Marek Perkowski, Alan Mishchenko Sep 2002

Logic Synthesis For Regular Layout Using Satisfiability, Marek Perkowski, Alan Mishchenko

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Publications and Presentations

In this paper, we propose a regular layout geometry called 3×3 lattice. The main difference of this geometry compared to the known 2×2 regular layout geometry is that it allows the cofactors on a level to propagate to three rather than two nodes on the lower level. This gives additional freedom to synthesize compact functional representations. We propose a SAT-based algorithm, which exploits this freedom to synthesize 3×3 lattice representations of completely specified Boolean functions. The experimental results show that the algorithm generates compact layouts in reasonable time.

On The Area Of Hypercube Layouts, Ronald I. Greenberg, Lee Guan Sep 2002

On The Area Of Hypercube Layouts, Ronald I. Greenberg, Lee Guan

Computer Science: Faculty Publications and Other Works

This paper precisely analyzes the wire density and required area in standard styles for the hypercube. It shows that the most natural, regular layout of a hypercube of N^2 nodes in the plane, in a NxN grid arrangement, uses floor(2N/3)+1 horizontal wiring tracks for each row of nodes. (In the process, we see that the number of tracks per row can be reduced by 1 with a less regular design, as can also be seen from an independent argument of Bezrukov et al.) This paper also gives a simple formula for the wire density at any cut position and a …

Adaptive Ds-Cdma Multiuser Detection For Time Variant Frequency Selective Rayleigh Fading Channel, Xin Tang Aug 2002

Adaptive Ds-Cdma Multiuser Detection For Time Variant Frequency Selective Rayleigh Fading Channel, Xin Tang

Dissertations

The current digital wireless mobile system such as IS-95, which is based on direct sequence Code Division Multiple Access (DS-CDMA) technology, will not be able to meet the growing demands for multimedia service due to low information exchanging rate. Its capacity is also limited by multiple accessed interference (MAI) signals.

This work focuses on the development of adaptive algorithms for multiuser detection (MUD) and interference suppression for wideband direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) systems over time-variant frequency selective fading channels. In addition, channel acquisition and delay estimation techniques are developed to combat the uncertainty introduced by the wireless …

Em-Based Iterative Channel Estimation And Sequence Detection For Space-Time Coded Modulation, Zbigniew Baranski

Dissertations

Reliable detection of signals transmitted over a wireless communication channel requires knowledge of the channel estimate. In this work, the application of expectationmaximization (EM) algorithm to estimation of unknown channel and detection of space-time coded modulation (STCM) signals is investigated. An STCM communication system is presented which includes symbol interleaving at the transmitter and iterative EM-based soft-output decoding at the receiver. The channel and signal model are introduced with a quasi-static and time-varying Rayleigh fading channels considered to evaluate the performance of the communication system. Performance of the system employing Kalman filter with per-survivor processing to do the channel estimation …

On Chip Implement Of Deadlock Avoidance In Wormhole Networks, Kiran K. Gururaj

Theses

This thesis gives a detailed description of the Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) design to avoid deadlocks in Wormhole Networks. Deadlock avoidance is the most critical issue while considering wormhole networks and should be avoided by any routing protocol and algorithm. A novel architecture for the Turn Prohibition Based Routing (TPBR) protocol has been proved to be efficient and was developed as a part of this work. This architecture for implementing the algorithm is divided into three parts. The first part determines the order of selccuon of the nodes, in the network to run the algorithm. The second part deals …

Linear Feature Detection Using Multiresolution Wavelet Filters, Samuel Peter Kozaitis, Somkait Udomhunsakul, Rufus H. Cofer, A. Agarawal, Shuwu Song

Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Faculty Publications

We detected roads in aerial imagery based on multiresolution linear feature detection. Our method used the products of wavelet coefficients at several scales to identify and locate linear features. After detecting possible road pixels, we used a shortest-path algorithm to identify roads. The multiresolution approach effectively increased the size of the region we examined when looking for possible road pixels and reduced the effect of noise. We found that our approach leads to an effective method for detecting roads in aerial imagery.

New Plane Wave Representation Of Point Sources, L. (Lijun) J. Jiang, W. C. Chew

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

A new method to decompose the spherical wave of a 3D point source into plane waves is discussed. Using Cauchy's theorem, it represents spherical waves as the summation of surface-direction-wave integrals. Results show that only 6 directions waves needed storage. Thus, the method provides a good cost reduction for plane-wave related algorithms.

Analogy Method Development For Cost Estimation Of Software Design, Riyanarto Sarno, Joko Lianto Buliali, Siti Maimunah

Makara Journal of Technology

The important aspect of planning and managing software development project is to estimate the cost of a project. There are several methods for estimating the cost of a software development project, and the Analogy method is a method which gives relatively better estimates. This paper shows that the modified Analogy method selects a closer project reference, estimates more accurate project effort and cost. This study enhances the cost estimate technique by including valid and complete cost parameters, therefore the estimate of a project cost is better than the result of the standard Analogy method.

Biodiesel's Characteristics Preparation From Palm Oil, Tilani Hamid. S, Rachman Yusuf

Makara Journal of Technology

Biodiesel’s characteristics preparation from palm oil. Using vegetable oils directly as an alternative diesel fuel has presented engine problems. The problems have been attributed to high viscosity of vegetable oil that causes the poor atomization of fuel in the injector system and pruduces uncomplete combustion. Therefore, it is necessary to convert the vegetable oil into ester (metil ester) by tranesterification process to decrease its viscosity. In this research has made biodiesel by reaction of palm oil and methanol using lye (NaOH) as catalyst with operation conditions: constant temperature at 60 oC in atmosferic pressure, palm oil : methanol volume ratio …

Development Of Hardness Measurement Procedure For Nanocomposite Nc-Tin/A-Si3n4, Keba Moto Aug 2002

Development Of Hardness Measurement Procedure For Nanocomposite Nc-Tin/A-Si3n4, Keba Moto

Makara Journal of Technology

Hardness of nc-TiN/a-Si3N4 nanocomposites which was determined by using two methods of measurements i. e. depth sensing method and remaining plastic indentation area that were magnified by using SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) lie in the good agreement. The hardness value is not influenced by the biaxial and residual compressive stress. The measurement of the biaxial stress on the substrate shows a very small value of biaxial stress as well as the constant hardness and crystallite size against annealing temperature. Therefore, the reported hardness value here is the intrinsic value that depend on its microstructure properties.

Transmission Line Modeling Of Vias In Differential Signals, Chen Wang, James L. Drewniak, Jun Fan, James L. Knighten, Norman W. Smith, Ray Alexander

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Signal layer transitions in differential lines are modeled using both FDTD and equivalent circuit methods. The equivalent circuit is developed based on transmission-line reasoning regarding via behavior. Parameters of each transmission-line segment are obtained based on its corresponding physical geometry. The mixed-mode S-parameters from the equivalent circuit and the FDTD modeling are compared. Good agreement is demonstrated in the frequency range from 1 GHz to 20 GHz. The results indicate that vias in differential lines can be modeled as a transmission line for a quick and easy engineering estimation of the differential signal behavior in an environment of signal layer …
