Recent Advances On Ruthenium-Based Electrocatalysts For Lithium-Oxygen Batteries, Yu-Zhe Wang, Zhuo-Liang Jiang, Bo Wen, Yao-Hui Huang, Fu-Jun Li

Journal of Electrochemistry

Rechargeable lithium-oxygen (Li-O2) batteries have attracted wide attention due to their high energy density. However, the sluggish cathode kinetics results in high overvoltage and poor cycling performance. Ruthenium (Ru)-based electrocatalysts have been demonstrated to be promising cathode catalysts to promote oxygen evolution reaction (OER). It facilitates decomposition of lithium peroxide (Li2O2) by adjusting Li2O2 morphologies, which is due to the strong interaction between Ru-based catalyst and superoxide anion (O2) intermediate. In this review, the design strategies of Ru-based electrocatalysts are introduced to enhance their OER catalytic kinetics in …

Sorbitol-Electrolyte-Additive Based Reversible Zinc Electrochemistry, Qiong Sun, Hai-Hui Du, Tian-Jiang Sun, Dian-Tao Li, Min Cheng, Jing Liang, Hai-Xia Li, Zhan-Liang Tao

Journal of Electrochemistry

The unstable zinc (Zn)/electrolyte interfaces formed by undesired dendrites and parasitic side reactions greatly hinder the development of aqueous zinc ion batteries. Herein, the hydroxy-rich sorbitol was used as an additive to reshape the solvation structure and modulate the interface chemistry. The strong interactions among sorbitol and both water molecules and Zn electrode can reduce the free water activity, optimize the solvation shell of water and Zn2+ ions, and regulate the formation of local water (H2O)-poor environment on the surface of Zn electrode, which effectively inhibit the decomposition of water molecules, and thus, achieve the thermodynamically stable …

Electrochemical Advanced Treatment Of Desulfurization Wastewater From Coal-Fired Power Plants, Ju-Cai Wei, Juan Yi, Xu Wu

Journal of Electrochemistry

Zero-emission of desulfurization wastewater is one of the main demands for coal-fired power plants. As typical high salinity wastewater, it is hard to purify the desulfurization wastewater from coal-fired power plants through traditional physicochemical treatment or biochemical treatment, e.g., COD and Cl. A high concentration of Cl ion in desulfurization wastewater restricts wastewater reuse and zero-emission. Electrochemical technology is an attractive method for high salinity wastewater zero-emission, which provides a versatile, efficient, cost-effective, easily automatable, and clean industrial process. For advanced treatment of effluent after triple box process treatment in power plants, this paper reports an electrochemical …
