Penetration Testing In A Small Business Network, Lee Kandle
Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects
Penetration testing on a business network consisting of three routers, one switch, and one computer. Access Control Lists (ACLs) on the routers act as the firewall(s) for the network. 10 of the twelve ACLs do not deny any form of traffic to reflect the lax security standards common in small networks. Router 1 acts as the primary router of the Attacker/Pen Tester. Router 2 represents the edge router for the business and Router 3 is the inner router closest to end-user devices. Switch 1 is connected to Router 3 with one computer connected to the switch acting as an end-user. …

Standalone execution of problem-solving Artificial Intelligence (AI) on IoT devices produces a higher level of autonomy and privacy. This is because the sensitive user data collected by the devices need not be transmitted to the cloud for inference. The chipsets used to design IoT devices are resource-constrained due to their limited memory footprint, fewer computation cores, and low clock speeds. These limitations constrain one from deploying and executing complex problem-solving AI (usually an ML model) on IoT devices. Since there is a high potential for building intelligent IoT devices, in this tutorial, we teach researchers and developers; (i) How to …

Formalization approaches of user interface design (UID) in conjunction with model driven techniques aim to improve the usability in terms of conformity to standards or style guides and to leverage code generation of interactive software systems, so that various UI platforms for web, desktop or mobile Applications are supported. Because large parts of the UI are described platform independent instead of platform dependent implementations, re-usability of the UI concept is also improved. However, UI formalization requires the usage of a formal UI description language and a higher level of abstractness compared to concrete UI code. These languages need to be …

Exploring The Efficacy Of Transfer Learning In Mining Image‑Based Software Artifacts, Natalie Best, Jordan Ott, Erik J. Linstead
Engineering Faculty Articles and Research
Background
Transfer learning allows us to train deep architectures requiring a large number of learned parameters, even if the amount of available data is limited, by leveraging existing models previously trained for another task. In previous attempts to classify image-based software artifacts in the absence of big data, it was noted that standard off-the-shelf deep architectures such as VGG could not be utilized due to their large parameter space and therefore had to be replaced by customized architectures with fewer layers. This proves to be challenging to empirical software engineers who would like to make use of existing architectures without …
