Sensor Integration For Low-Cost Crash Avoidance, Stephane M. Roussel Nov 2009

Sensor Integration For Low-Cost Crash Avoidance, Stephane M. Roussel

Master's Theses

This report is a summary of the development of sensor integration for low-cost crash avoidance for over-land commercial trucks. The goal of the project was to build and test a system composed of low-cost commercially available sensors arranged on a truck trailer to monitor the environment around the truck. The system combines the data from each sensor to increase the reliability of the sensor using a probabilistic data fusion approach. A combination of ultrasonic and magnetoresistive sensors was used in this study. In addition, Radar and digital imaging were investigated as reference signals and possible candidates for additional sensor integration. …

Analyzing The Video Popularity Characteristics Of Large-Scale User Generated Content Systems, Meeyoung Cha, Haewoon Kwak, Pablo Rodriguez, Yong-Yeol Ahn, Sue Moon Oct 2009

Analyzing The Video Popularity Characteristics Of Large-Scale User Generated Content Systems, Meeyoung Cha, Haewoon Kwak, Pablo Rodriguez, Yong-Yeol Ahn, Sue Moon

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

User generated content (UGC), now with millions of video producers and consumers, is re-shaping the way people watch video and TV. In particular, UGC sites are creating new viewing patterns and social interactions, empowering users to be more creative, and generating new business opportunities. Compared to traditional video-on-demand (VoD) systems, UGC services allow users to request videos from a potentially unlimited selection in an asynchronous fashion. To better understand the impact of UGC services, we have analyzed the world's largest UGC VoD system, YouTube, and a popular similar system in Korea, Daum Videos. In this paper, we first empirically show …

Application Of Ict - I: A Framework For Finding Minimal Test Vectors For Stuck-At-Faults, Azam Beg, S.K. Hasnain Aug 2009

Application Of Ict - I: A Framework For Finding Minimal Test Vectors For Stuck-At-Faults, Azam Beg, S.K. Hasnain

International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies

This paper presents a framework that utilizes Boolean difference theory to find test vectors for stuck-at-fault detection. The framework reads in structural-style Verilog models, and automatically injects single stuck-at-faults (either stuck-at-zero or stuck-at-one) into the models. The simulations are then performed to find minimal sets of test vectors. Using this setup, we conducted experiments on more than 4000 different circuits. The results show that an appreciable savings in test time and effort can be achieved using the method. The same setup can also be used for didactic purposes, specifically for digital design and test courses.

A Graphical Approach To Testing Real-Time Embedded Devices, Steven M. Day Jun 2009

A Graphical Approach To Testing Real-Time Embedded Devices, Steven M. Day

Master's Theses

Software Testing is both a vital and expensive part of the software development lifecycle. Improving the testing process has the potential for large returns. Current testing methodologies used to test real-time embedded devices are examined and the weaknesses in them are exposed. This leads to the introduction of a new graphical testing methodology based on flowcharts. The new approach is both a visual test creation program and an automated execution engine that together frame a new way of testing. The new methodology incorporates flow-based diagrams, visual layouts, and simple execution rules to improve upon traditional testing approaches. The new methodology …

Where Does Your Institution Stand?, Wendell Brase, Mark Askren Mar 2009

Where Does Your Institution Stand?, Wendell Brase, Mark Askren

Information Technology Services: Publications

Media coverage of sustainability and "green" issues is hard to ignore these days. But less clear is a specific understanding of what this agenda means within higher ed IT organizations. For starters, it's useful to self-assess whether your campus is a leading innovator on all things "green" or satisfied to remain inconspicuous in the middle of the pack. If your institution is trailing but wants to assert a leadership role in environmental stewardship, you need to get engaged to understand what it will take to catch up and how IT can be a leader, not just a contributor, to such …

Image Processing For Multiple-Target Tracking On A Graphics Processing Unit, Michael A. Tanner Mar 2009

Image Processing For Multiple-Target Tracking On A Graphics Processing Unit, Michael A. Tanner

Theses and Dissertations

Multiple-target tracking (MTT) systems have been implemented on many different platforms, however these solutions are often expensive and have long development times. Such MTT implementations require custom hardware, yet offer very little flexibility with ever changing data sets and target tracking requirements. This research explores how to supplement and enhance MTT performance with an existing graphics processing unit (GPU) on a general computing platform. Typical computers are already equipped with powerful GPUs to support various games and multimedia applications. However, such GPUs are not currently being used in desktop MTT applications. This research explores if and how a GPU can …

Performance Evaluation Of Network-On-Chip Interconnect Architectures, Xinan Zhou Jan 2009

Performance Evaluation Of Network-On-Chip Interconnect Architectures, Xinan Zhou

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

With a communication design style, Network-on-Chips (NoCs) have been proposed as a new Multi-Processor System-on-Chip paradigm. Simulation and functional validation are essential to assess the correctness and performance of the NoC design. In this thesis, a cycle-accurate NoC simulation system in Verilog HDL is developed to evaluate the performance of various NoC architectures. First, a library of NoC components is developed based on an existing design. Each NoC architecture to be evaluated is constructed from the library according to the topology description which specifies the network topology, network size, and routing algorithm. The network performance of four NoC architectures under …
