A Random Subspace Based Conic Functions Ensemble Classifier, Emre Çi̇men Jan 2020

A Random Subspace Based Conic Functions Ensemble Classifier, Emre Çi̇men

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Classifiers overfit when the data dimensionality ratio to the number of samples is high in a dataset. This problem makes a classification model unreliable. When the overfitting problem occurs, one can achieve high accuracy in the training; however, test accuracy occurs significantly less than training accuracy. The random subspace method is a practical approach to overcome the overfitting problem. In random subspace methods, the classification algorithm selects a random subset of the features and trains a classifier function trained with the selected features. The classification algorithm repeats the process multiple times, and eventually obtains an ensemble of classifier functions. Conic …

A 88 $\Mu W$ Digital Phase-Domain Gfsk Demodulator Compatible With Low-If And Zero-If Receiver With Preamble Detection For Ble, Shen Jie Ung, Ab Al-Hadi Ab Rahman

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Unlike conventional analog-to-digital converter (ADC), phase-domain ADC (Ph-ADC) is more power efficient for the implementation of fully digital Gaussian frequency shift keying (GFSK) demodulator in bluetooth low energy (BLE). Besides, Ph-ADC based demodulator is flexible to pair with low-IF and zero-IF receiver, opposed to limiter based demodulator that work with low-IF receiver only. Yet, currently reported Ph-ADC based demodulator lack of preamble detection for BLE which will be used as symbol clock synchronization. In this work, a Ph-ADC based demodulator is proposed with the feature of preamble detection on BLE's packet. The detected preamble is used for symbol clock recovery …

Bibsqlqc: Brown Infomax Boosted Sql Query Clustering Algorithm To Detectanti-Patterns In The Query Log, Vinothsaravanan Ramakrishnan, Palanisamy Chenniappan

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Discovery of antipatterns from arbitrary SQL query log depends on the static code analysis used to enhance the quality and performance of software applications. The existence of antipatterns reduces the quality and leads to redundant SQL statements. SQL log includes a large load on the database and it is difficult for an analyst to extract large patterns in a minimal time. Existing techniques which discover antipatterns in SQL query face a lot of innumerable challenges to discover the normal sequences of queries within the log. In order to discover the antipatterns in the log, an efficient technique called Brown infomax …

Disturbance Observer Based Control Of Twin Rotor Aerodynamic System, Hamid Ali, Ahsan Ali, Inam Ul-Hasan Shaikh Jan 2020

Disturbance Observer Based Control Of Twin Rotor Aerodynamic System, Hamid Ali, Ahsan Ali, Inam Ul-Hasan Shaikh

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Twin rotor aerodynamic system (TRAS) approximates the dynamics of helicopters and other vertical take off rotor crafts. The nonlinear nature with significant cross-coupling between the inputs and outputs of the main and tail rotors make the control of such system for either stabilization or reference tracking a challenging task. In this paper, the problem of disturbance rejection for TRAS is addressed by designing disturbance observers through $H_{\infty}$ based approach. The system is decoupled into main and tail rotors subsystems. For each subsystem, an inner loop disturbance observer is synthesized that provides disturbance rejection, whereas to ensure stability and performance an …

Connectivity Considerations For Mission Planning Of A Search And Rescue Drone Team, Evşen Yanmaz Adam Jan 2020

Connectivity Considerations For Mission Planning Of A Search And Rescue Drone Team, Evşen Yanmaz Adam

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In this paper, we analyze the mission success performance and mission times of centralized, distributed, and hybrid path-planning methods for a drone team whose mission is to find a target and inform the ground control. We propose two methods that integrate connectivity into the search mission path decisions. We observe that even though the coverage path-planning leads to lower search times, when target connectivity is also required, schemes that incorporate end--end connectivity into path planning result in at least 50 % better mission times for small communication ranges and lower number of drones. Our results also indicate that methods to …

Net-Lda: A Novel Topic Modeling Method Based On Semantic Document Similarity, Eki̇n Eki̇nci̇, Sevi̇nç İlhan Omurca

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Topic models, such as latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA), allow us to categorize each document based on the topics. It builds a document as a mixture of topics and a topic is modeled as a probability distribution over words. However, the key drawback of the traditional topic model is that it cannot handle the semantic knowledge hidden in the documents. Therefore, semantically related, coherent and meaningful topics cannot be obtained. However, semantic inference plays a significant role in topic modeling as well as in other text mining tasks. In this paper, in order to tackle this problem, a novel NET-LDA model …

Controlling A Launch Vehicle At Exoatmospheric Flight Conditions Via Adaptivecontrol Allocation, Yildiray Yildiz Jan 2020

Controlling A Launch Vehicle At Exoatmospheric Flight Conditions Via Adaptivecontrol Allocation, Yildiray Yildiz

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

The focus of this paper is the control of a reusable launch vehicle at exoatmospheric flight conditions, in the presence of actuator effectiveness uncertainty. Since during exoatmospheric flight, dynamic pressure is nonexistent, aerodynamic control surfaces cannot be used. Under these conditions, reaction control jet actuators can provide the necessary thrust to control the vehicle. Reaction control jets have only 2 states, namely, on and off, and continuous control inputs can be implemented with the help of pulse width modulation, which is also employed in this paper. A continuous controller is designed in the outer loop and a control allocator is …

Simplified Model Predictive Current Control Of Non-Sinusoidal Low Power Brushlessdc Machines, Alireza Lahooti Eshkevari, Hossein Torkaman

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Several strategies have been proposed to control nonsinusoidal brushless DC machines (BLDCMs). However, high electromagnetic torque ripple and current overshoots occur in commutation times, which are significant problems of those strategies such as for hysteresis current controllers. This paper proposes a model predictive strategy to solve the above issues. It is simple and straightforward. Moreover, it reduces the motor torque ripple significantly and improves the response rate of the control system to the load torque variation in comparison with the conventional technique. The torque varies smoothly, and the performance of the system at commutation time is improved by eliminating the …

An Electrothermal Current Prediction Method For Overload Protection Of Miniaturecircuit Breakers, Sen Lyu, Ming Zong Jan 2020

An Electrothermal Current Prediction Method For Overload Protection Of Miniaturecircuit Breakers, Sen Lyu, Ming Zong

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Traditional miniature circuit breakers (MCBs) cannot meet the requirement for the intelligence of distributing apparatuses in a smart grid. The intellectualization of MCBs is restricted due to the lack of appropriate current measurement methods. Thus, an electrothermal current prediction method is proposed based on the derived relationship between root-mean-square (RMS) current and steady-state temperature rise. A fast acquisition algorithm is used to obtain the required temperature rise before thermal equilibrium to highly reduce the total time consumption. The presented prediction method is found immunized against the ambient temperature. The theory is validated with experiments using a thermostat. The tested steady-state …

Reducing Computational Complexity In Fingerprint Matching, Mubeen Sabir, Tariq Mahmood Khan, Munazza Arshad, Sana Munawar

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

The performance of cross-correlation functions can decrease computational complexity under optimal fingerprint feature selection. In this paper, a technique is proposed to perform alignment of fingerprints followed by their matching in fewer computations. Minutiae points are extracted and alignment is performed on the basis of their spatial locations and orientation fields. Unlike traditional cross-correlation based matching algorithms, ridges are not included in the matching process to avoid redundant computations. However, optimal cross-correlation is chosen by correlating feature vectors accompanying x-y locations of minutiae points and their aligned orientation fields. As a result, matching time is significantly reduced with much improved …

Modelling Sensor Ontology With The Sosa/Ssn Frameworks:A Case Study For Laboratory Parameters, Özlem Aktaş, Mehmet Mi̇lli̇, Sanaz Lakestani̇, Musa Mi̇lli̇

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Recently, the use of sensor-based systems in many areas has led to an exponential increase in the raw sensor data. However, the lack of neither syntactic nor semantic integrity between these sensor data limited their sharing, reusability, and interpretation. These inabilities can cause some problems. For example, different wireless sensor networks may not work together due to the subtle variations in their sensing methods, operating systems, syntax, and data structure. In recent years, to cope with these inabilities, the semantic sensor web approach, which enables us to enrich the meaning of sensor data, has been seen as the critical technology …

JPEG is the most widely used image compression standard for sensing, medical, and security applications. JPEG provides a high degree of compression but field devices relying on battery power must further economize on data transmissions to prolong deployment duration with particular use cases in wireless sensor networks. Transmitting a subset of image data could potentially enhance the battery life of power-constrained devices and also meet the application requirements to identify the objects within an image. Depending on an application's needs, after the first selected subset is received at the base station, further transmissions of the image data for successive refinements …

Adaptive Modified Artificial Bee Colony Algorithms (Amabc) For Optimization Ofcomplex Systems, Rabi̇a Korkmaz Tan, Şebnem Bora Jan 2020

Adaptive Modified Artificial Bee Colony Algorithms (Amabc) For Optimization Ofcomplex Systems, Rabi̇a Korkmaz Tan, Şebnem Bora

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Complex systems are large scale and involve numerous uncertainties, which means that such systems tend to be expensive to operate. Further, it is difficult to analyze systems of this kind in a real environment, and for this reason agent-based modeling and simulation techniques are used instead. Based on estimation methods, modeling and simulation techniques establish an output set against the existing input set. However, as the data set in a given complex systems becomes very large, it becomes impossible to use estimation methods to create the output set desired. Therefore, a new mechanism is needed to optimize data sets in …

Formation Of A Wireless Sensor Network Using Custom-Designed Sensors Having Lowpower And Low Cost Components, Veysel Yaman Akgün, Engi̇n Maşazade

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In this paper, we first design a sensor with low power and low cost components, namely an MSP430G2553 microcontroller (MCU), nRF24L01+ communication unit, and a light-dependent resistor (LDR). Then, connecting these custom-designed sensors with a central node, a fusion center (FC), we form a wireless sensor network (WSN) in which sensors measure light intensities and send their measurements to the FC for final inference. Since the default addressing structure of nRF24L01+ can simultaneously connect up to 6 devices, in order to have more connections, we define a new addressing scheme for the transmissions between sensors and the FC. Finally, as …

Mutant Selection By Using Fourier Expansion, Savaş Takan, Tolga Ayav Jan 2020

Mutant Selection By Using Fourier Expansion, Savaş Takan, Tolga Ayav

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Mutation analysis is a widely used technique to evaluate the effectiveness of test cases in both hardware and software testing. The original model is mutated systematically under certain fault assumptions and test cases are checked against the mutants created to see whether the test cases can detect the faults or not. Mutation analysis is usually a computationally intensive task, particularly in finite state machine (FSM) testing due to a possibly huge amount of mutants. Random selection could be a practical reduction method under the assumption that each mutant is identical in terms of the probability of occurrence of its associating …

Improving The Efficiency Of Dnn Hardware Accelerator By Replacing Digitalfeature Extractor With An Imprecise Neuromorphic Hardware, Majid Mohammadi Rad, Omid Sojodishijani

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Mixed-signal in-memory computation can drastically improve the efficiency of the hardware implementing machine learning (ML) algorithms by (i) removing the need to fetch neural network parameters from internal or external memory and (ii) performing a large number of multiply-accumulate operations in parallel. However, this boost in efficiency comes with some disadvantages. Among them, the inability to precisely program nonvolatile memory devices (NVM) with neural network parameters and sensitivity to noise prevent the mixed-signal hardware to perform a precise and deterministic computation. Unfortunately, these hardware-specific errors can get magnified while propagating along with the layers of the deep neural network. In …
