Voltage- And Current-Controlled High Cmrr Instrumentation Amplifier Using Cmos Current Conveyors, Hamdi̇ Ercan, Sezai̇ Alper Teki̇n, Mustafa Alçi

A new approach to the design of an instrumentation amplifier using only 2 CMOS current-controlled conveyors and an active resistor is introduced. The new approach, which has no passive components, offers a wide bandwidth and a high common-mode rejection ratio (CMRR). Electronically controllable gain by voltage and current is also obtained by this new circuit. The circuit is simulated using the parameters of a 0.35-\mu m TSMC CMOS technology. Theoretical analysis of the circuits was carried out, and the performance of the block circuit was confirmed through PSpice simulation results.

The concept of quality layers (QLs) has been adopted in the scalable video coding standard to enable optimal rate adaptation of precoded video in the rate-distortion sense. QLs were previously extended to stereo and multiple-view scalable video for efficient transport of 3DTV over the Internet. However, it is not possible to use the QL method in applications that require real-time encoding since the priority determination process assumes the availability of the whole video sequence. One of the well-known recurrent neural networks is the Elman network. Recently, it has been used in applications of system identification. The network has feedforward and feedback connections. It can be trained essentially as a feedforward network by means of the basic backpropagation algorithm, but its feedback connections have to be kept constant. We present a novel method for fast multiplication of polynomials over F_2 which can be implemented efficiently in embedded software. Fast polynomial multiplication methods are needed for the efficient implementation of some cryptographic and coding applications. The proposed method follows a strategy to reduce the memory accesses for input data and intermediate values during computation. This strategy speeds up the binary polynomial multiplication significantly on typical embedded processors with limited memory bandwidth. These multiplications are usually performed by the comb method or the Karatsuba-based methods in embedded software. The proposed method has speed and memory advantages over these methods on …

The wireless body area sensor network (WBASN) is a type of wireless sensor network. The wireless sensor nodes in a WBASN are placed on, near, or within a human body. We present a new formulation method to solve the kinematic problem of multiarm robot systems. Our major aims were to formulize the kinematic problem in a compact closed form and avoid singularity problems in the inverse kinematic solution. The new formulation method is based on screw theory and quaternion algebra. Screw theory is an effective way to establish a global description of a rigid body and avoids singularities due to the use of the local coordinates. This paper presents the design and control of a single-link flexible-joint robot manipulator. A cascade fuzzy logic controller (FLC) was used to remove link vibrations and to obtain fast trajectory tracking performance. The cascade FLC structure includes 3 different FLCs. The input variables of the first and the second FLCs are the motor rotation angle error, its derivative, and the end-point deflection error its derivative, respectively. The outputs of these controllers are the inputs of the third FLC, which yields the control signal to the flexible robot arm. All of the FLCs were embedded in a DS1103 real-time control board. …

A novel method for implementing noncausal forward/backward 2-pass recursive digital filters in real time is presented. It is based on a segment-wise block processing scheme without overlapping. Factors that degrade the linearity of the overall system's transfer function are discussed. An analytical condition that corrects the system's linearity is elaborated upon using the state variable approach. A recursive algorithm is developed to compute an implementable condition for real-time filtering. A single first in, first out queue memory is introduced to ensure an organized and continuous data stream into the proposed system. Insulation failure within the windings of a power transformer arises due to over voltages, under voltages, notches, glitches, etc. A widely used technique to detect these power transformer insulation failures during an impulse test is the comparison of neutral current waveforms. This paper summarizes the work done to show finite element modeling results on a high temperature superconductor fault current limiter (FCL). The paper also gives the small mock-up design of the matrix FCL and its finite element model (FEM). It also discusses the limitations of the FEM and explains how the results from the FEM compare with the experimental data derived for the configuration. A 3-dimensional FEM has been used because of the structure of the real geometry, which does not show any plane or axisymmetric features.

This paper presents a novel hybrid approach for detection of power quality (PQ) disturbances. The proposed hybrid algorithm is based on applications of principle component analysis, discrete wavelet transform, and fast Fourier transform on voltage and current waveforms. The proposed PQ monitoring (PQM) software uses 3-phase voltage and current signals in order to detect possible power disturbances such as voltage sag, flicker, harmonics, transients, DC component, and electromagnetic interference. The test results demonstrate the potential of the proposed hybrid technique for PQM andPQ assessment.

The performance parameters of a total power radiometer designed as a noise measurement system for the frequency range of 12-18 GHz were investigated. The total power radiometer included a low-noise radio frequency section, a narrow-band intermediate frequency section, an average power detector, and a symmetric microwave switch. The radiometer's stability versus time was 0.343 \times 10^{-5} mW/h and its stability against temperature fluctuation was 0.0035 mW/K. The temperature fluctuation of the radiometer was less than 4 mK. We proved that there was no need for active temperature control to obtain stable radiometer gain.

A steel plate bonded with lead zirconate titanate (PZT) actuators was studied on the basis of finite element methods (FEMs). The damping amplitudes of this plate bonded with PZT actuators were obtained at different locations and under different control conditions by analyzing the distribution of the PZT plate's strain tensor in the first 4 modes. Furthermore, to reduce the unwanted disturbance and mitigate the errors from sensors, a base structure of the missile's strapdown inertial navigation system (SINS) is also proposed. The results show that the vibration control can be enhanced by increasing the number of the PZT actuators bonded. …

This paper presents a newly developed approach to find the optimal location of distributed generations (DGs) to improve power system voltage stability margin and reduce losses incorporating the constraints. The loadability limit index is used to assess the static voltage stability security margin, which is associated with the point of voltage collapse limit. In this paper, a novel design for a tubular linear reluctance motor (TLRM) has been developed. This paper presents a novel structure to enhance magnetic force and velocity in a TLRM. The new structure is accomplished through some changes in a TLRM, which results in a step winding structure. This paper presents a novel motor speed measurement method and experimental results using the fast Fourier transform (FFT). Motor speed is obtained using the square wave output signal of a speed sensor. In the proposed method, the speed can be measured in a wide range, and transient speed changes can also be clearly observed. The experiments were conducted during start-up and in steady state. The sampled speed data were transformed to frequency spectrums using the FFT. The frequency, which corresponds to the maximum amplitude in the spectrum, was used to calculate the motor speed. A power system is a typical nonlinear dynamical system and voltage stability is an important subject of power system stability. This paper describes the use of the variable gradient method in a reduced order model of a single-machine infinite-bus power system. Additionally, the system's Lyapunov (energy) function is created and thus the system's energy level changes' effects on the system's stability are shown using the MACSYMA program. The Lyapunov function allows the determination of stability for nonlinear systems without the need to find exact solutions.

In this paper, the Posicast control method is used for decreasing the reactive power oscillations of static shunt compensators. Shunt compensators such as the static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) and static VAR compensator (SVC) are considered to be FACTS devices. The applied control method decreases the amount of oscillations in the outputs of STATCOM and SVC considerably, with fast damping. The individual design of the UPFC controller, using the imperialist competitive algorithm (ICA) technique over a wide range of operating conditions, is discussed. Linear switched reluctance motors (LSRMs) have recently gained more popularity for propulsion drives. This paper contributes a certain design improvement to reduce the force ripple in LSRMs. By affixing a pole cap in the stator pole, the target is achieved. Finite element analysis has been carried out to predict the performance of the basic and proposed structures. Motor performances for different load conditions are simulated. The application of fast Fourier transform has been utilized to envisage the vibration frequencies. The experimental results are well correlated with the predicted results.

In this paper, we introduce a new 3-dimensional quadratic continuous autonomous chaotic system. This system can generate strange and interesting attractors. Some basic dynamical properties, such as bifurcations, and chaotic behaviors of the new chaotic system are investigated analytically and numerically. We propose a nonlinear control scheme to discuss codimension 1 and 2 Hopf bifurcations. In addition, a new circuit implementation of the chaotic attractor is reported and examined in PSpice. The new system is suitable for purposefully generating chaos in chaos-based engineering applications.
