On Clustering And Retrieval Of Video Shots Through Temporal Slices Analysis, Chong-Wah Ngo, Ting-Chuen Pong, Hong-Jiang Zhang

Based on the analysis of temporal slices, we propose novel approaches for clustering and retrieval of video shots. Temporal slices are a set of two-dimensional (2-D) images extracted along the time dimension of an image volume. They encode rich set of visual patterns for similarity measure. In this paper, we first demonstrate that tensor histogram features extracted from temporal slices are suitable for motion retrieval. Subsequently, we integrate both tensor and color histograms for constructing a two-level hierarchical clustering structure. In this papel; we investigate video shots retrieval based on the analysis of temporal slice images. Temporal slices are a set of2D images extracted along the time dimension of image sequences. They encode rich set of motion clues for shot similarity measure. Because motion is depicted as texture orientation in temporal slices, we utilize various texture features such as tensor histogram, Gabor feature, and the statistical feature of co-occurrence matrix extracted directly from slices for motion description and retrieval. It shows how text mining techniques including a novel user-configurable clustering, trend analysis and visualization techniques can be used synergistically to address the problem of managing information gathered from the web. Clustering of video data is an important issue in video abstraction, browsing and retrieval. In this paper, we propose a two-level hierarchical clustering approach by aggregating shots with similar motion and color features. Motion features are computed directly from 20 tensor histograms, while color features are represented by 30 color histograms. Cluster validity analysis is further applied to automatically determine the number of clusters at each level. Video retrieval can then be done directly based on the result of clustering. We present a novel approach for video partitioning by detecting three essential types of camera breaks, namely cuts, wipes, and dissolves. The approach is based on the analysis of temporal slices which are extracted from the video by slicing through the sequence of video frames and collecting temporal signatures. Each of these slices contains both spatial and temporal information from which coherent regions are indicative of uninterrupted video partitions separated by camera breaks. The nature of structural locality as defined by same stack distance access is investigated in this thesis. The question is whether structural locality can be characterized as an inherent type of behavior. The results revealed that structural locality is strongly influenced by a program's design and phase of execution. Entropy measurements revealed that the predictiveness of structural locality is also influenced by program design. A Markov model was refined to capture the characteristics of structural locality that were measured. Issues concerning space-borne applications of an optical disk mass memory system (ODMMS) are investigated through computer simulation. The simulation model is developed according to a current description of the ODMMS with certain application constraints. The results are examined in terms of system modularity, multi-user data rate buffering, disk module access, and read/write file management. The conditions and requirements for future disk controller designs are indicated in the simulation results.

This thesis describes the design, development, and installation of a computer program which compiles unit clauses generated in a Prolog-based environment at Argonne National Laboratories into Warren Abstract Machine (WAM) code. The program enhances the capabilities of the environment by providing rapid unification and subsumption tests for the very significant class of unit clauses. This should improve performance substantially for large programs that generate and use many unit clauses.

This paper analyzes the role of information in social casework practice. Three models of computer-based information processing are discussed: Cybernetic, Management Information Systems and Natural Language Processing. The latter is most consistent with social casework information needs because of its potential to focus on the problems of the meaning of social action.

It is known that the entropy of English text can be reduced by arranging the text into groups of two or more letters each. The higher the order of the grouping the greater is the entropy reduction. Using this principle in a computer text compressing system brings about difficulties, however, because the number of entries required in the translation table increases exponentially with group size. This experiment examined the possibility of using a translation table containing only selected entries of all group sizes with the expectation of obtaining a substantial entropy reduction with a relatively small table.

SADDAS, a. Self-contained Analog to Digital Data Acquisition System, converts analog voltage inputs to formatted BCD (binary coded decimal digital magnetic tape. SADDAS consists of a 16 channel multiplexer, a 17 bit (4 digits + sign) 40 microsecond analog to digital converter, a 512 byte 8 bit core memory, a 30 IPS (inches per second) digital tape recorder at a density of 556 cpi (characters per inch), and a controller which integrates these instruments into a flexible and easy-to-use system.
