Simulation Research On Appearance Detection Of Ampoules Based On Lightweight Network And Model Compression, Zhihao Zhu, Yan Wang, Zhicheng Ji
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: Aiming at the large scale and redundant parameters of target detection network model, which result in the difficult to deploy the ampoule bottle appearance defect detection model to edge devices, an LC-Faster R-CNN defect detection algorithm based on lightweight network and model compression is proposed. MobileNet-V2 is used as the backbone, and the redundant channels in the convolutional network are trimmed by model pruning strategy. The floating-point parameters are quantized into integers through saturation truncation mapping. Knowledge distillation is used to restore the accuracy of the compressed network. Tested on the self-built ampoule appearance defect dataset, the model volume …

Research On Iterative Calculation And Optimization Methods Of Aero-Engine On-Board Model, Xinghua Luo, Jia Geng, Ming Li, Bei Liu, Lei Wang, Zhiping Song
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: Aeroengine is a complex and time-varying multivariable thermophysical system. The research on the convergence accuracy and rate of the component-level model is of great significance to the model-based engine health management, performance and fault-tolerant control. The existing engine component-level models are generally based on the traditional quasi-Newton method to solve the equilibrium equations simultaneously. Compared with the traditional Newton-Raphson method (N-R method), the convergence speed is optimized, but it is difficult to meet accuracy and real-time requirements of the dynamic model airborne applications within the full envelope. An adaptive variable step factor quasi-Newton method is proposed, which can reduce …

Reliability Parameter Optimization Complex System Simulation Based On R-Vikor Method, Zhiguang Wang, Baiting Liu, Xiaolei Wang, Tao Liu, Zhaowei Yang
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: The operation of complex simulation system is not isolated, and always affected by multiple external factors and its own performance. In simulation reliability calculation, parameters need to be chosen, and different performance indexes need to be taken into account when comparing with the reference model. The research is transformed into the multi-attribute decision. An system simulation trusted parameter optimization method based on R-VIKOR(resist rank reversal of visekriterijumska optimizacija | kompromisno resenje) is proposed. Multiple sets of aerodynamic parameters of the new model are obtained through model migration theory, and similarity calculation is carried out with the optimal parameters of …

Research On Low Computational Predictive Control Strategy Of Three-Level Four-Arm Apf, Guifeng Wang, Jinxing Guo
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: Four-arm active power filter(APF) is an ideal device to the power quality of three-phase four-wire distribution network. Owing to the sufficient number of base vectors, three-level four-arm APF has better current tracking performance, but the prediction calculation amount is too large when model predictive current control is applied. A model prediction voltage control strategy based on the idea of space stratification is proposed. Based on the deadbeat control idea and the discrete mathematical model in αβγ coordinate system, the expected reference voltage is predicted from the reference current, and the multiple current predictions are converted into the single voltage …

Advanced Deep Learning Methodologies For Deepfake Detection, Aminollah Khormali
Electronic Theses and Dissertations, 2020-2023
The recent advances in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) and an abundance of training samples along with robust computational resources have significantly propelled the field of AI-generated fake information in all kinds, e.g., deepfakes. Deepfakes are among the most sinister types of misinformation, posing large-scale and severe security and privacy risks targeting critical governmental institutions and ordinary people across the world. The fact that deepfakes are AI-generated digital content and not actual events captured by a camera implies that they still can be detected using advanced AI models. Although the deepfake detection task has …

Since the 1980’s and creation of the World Wide Web, Internet utilization is a common and arguably, necessary, part of daily life. The internet is young and still relatively new, but as of 2016, 3.4 billion people were online, and that number has since grown [1]. This is a significant number, but as such a common part of daily life, how elements of the internet or its infrastructure work is complex. The world would very likely be thrown into dark ages if DNS or any other significant aspect of the internet's infrastructure were to succumb to an attack. The Colonial …

Actively Guided Cansats For Assisting Localization And Mapping In Unstructured And Unknown Environments, Cary Chun, M. Hassan Tanveer
Symposium of Student Scholars
When navigating in unknown and unstructured environments, Unmanned Arial Vehicles (UAVs) can struggle when attempting to preform Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) operations. Particularly challenging circumstance arise when an UAV may need to land or otherwise navigate through treacherous environments. As the primary UAV may be too large and unwieldly to safely investigate in these types of situations, this research effort proposes the use of actively guided CanSats for assisting in localization and mapping of unstructured environments. A complex UAV could carry multiple of these SLAM capable CanSats, and when additional mapping and localization capabilities where required, the CanSat would …
An Empirical Study On The Classification Of Python Language Features Using Eye-Tracking, Jigyasa Chauhan
An Empirical Study On The Classification Of Python Language Features Using Eye-Tracking, Jigyasa Chauhan
School of Computing: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Python, currently one of the most popular programming languages, is an object-
oriented language that also provides language feature support for other programming
paradigms, such as functional and procedural. It is not currently understood how
support for multiple paradigms affects the ability of developers to comprehend that
code. Understanding the predominant paradigm in code, and how developers classify
the predominant paradigm, can benefit future research in program comprehension as
the paradigm may factor into how people comprehend that code. Other researchers
may want to look at how the paradigms in the code interact with various code smells.
To investigate how …

Engineering Management & Systems Engineering Theses & Dissertations
The United States Department of Defense (DoD) is rapidly working with DoD Services to move from multi-year (e.g., 7-10) traditional acquisition programs to a commercial industrybased approach for software development. While commercial technologies and approaches provide an opportunity for rapid fielding of mission capabilities to pace threats, the suitability of commercial technologies to meet hard-real-time requirements within a surface combat system is unclear. This research establishes technical data to validate the effectiveness and suitability of current commercial technologies to meet the hard-real-time demands of a DoD combat management system. (Moreland Jr., 2013) conducted similar research; however, microservices, containers, and container …

School of Computing: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Fact verification has become an important process, primarily done manually by humans, to verify the authenticity of claims and statements made online. Increasingly, social media companies have utilized human effort to debunk false claims on their platforms, opting to either tag the content as misleading or false, or removing it entirely to combat misinformation on their sites. In tandem, the field of automatic fact verification has become a subject of focus among the natural language processing (NLP) community, spawning new datasets and research. The most popular dataset is the Fact Extraction and VERification (FEVER) dataset. In this thesis an end-to-end …

Sequence-Based Bioinformatics Approaches To Predict Virus–Host Relationships In Archaea And Eukaryotes, Yingshan Li
School of Computing: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Viral metagenomics is independent of lab culturing and capable of investigating viromes of virtually any given environmental niches. While numerous sequences of viral genomes have been assembled from metagenomic studies over the past years, the natural hosts for the majority of these viral contigs have not been determined. Different computational approaches have been developed to predict hosts of bacteria phages. Nevertheless, little progress has been made in the virus-host prediction, especially for viruses that infect eukaryotes and archaea. In this study, by analyzing all documented viruses with known eukaryotic and archaeal hosts, we assessed the predictive power of four computational …
Attention In The Faithful Self-Explanatory Nlp Models, Mostafa Rafaiejokandan
Attention In The Faithful Self-Explanatory Nlp Models, Mostafa Rafaiejokandan
School of Computing: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Deep neural networks (DNNs) can perform impressively in many natural language processing (NLP) tasks, but their black-box nature makes them inherently challenging to explain or interpret. Self-Explanatory models are a new approach to overcoming this challenge, generating explanations in human-readable languages besides task objectives like answering questions. The main focus of this thesis is the explainability of NLP tasks, as well as how attention methods can help enhance performance. Three different attention modules are proposed, SimpleAttention, CrossSelfAttention, and CrossModality. It also includes a new dataset transformation method called Two-Documents that converts every dataset into two separate documents required by the …

Online/Incremental Learning To Mitigate Concept Drift In Network Traffic Classification, Alberto R. De La Rosa
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
Communication networks play a large role in our everyday lives. COVID19 pandemic in 2020 highlighted their importance as most jobs had to be moved to remote work environments. It is possible that the spread of the virus, the death toll, and the economic consequences would have been much worse without communication networks. To remove sole dependence on one equipment vendor, networks are heterogeneous by design. Due to this, as well as their increasing size, network management has become overwhelming for network managers. For this reason, automating network management will have a significant positive impact. Machine learning and software defined networking …
Stuck-At-Fault Immunity Enhancement Of Memristor-Based Edge Ai Systems, Md. Oli-Uz-Zaman
Stuck-At-Fault Immunity Enhancement Of Memristor-Based Edge Ai Systems, Md. Oli-Uz-Zaman
Graduate Theses and Dissertations (2019 - present)
Deep Neural Networks (DNN) are widely used in edge AI. But the complex perception and decision-making demand the overlarge computation and make the DNN architecture very sophisticated. Memristors have multilevel resistance property that enables faster in-memory DNN computation to remove the bottleneck caused by the von Neumann architecture and CMOS technology. However, the Stuck-At-Fault (SAF) defect of memristor generated from immature fabrication and heavy device utilization makes the memristor-based edge AI commercially unavailable. To mitigate this problem, an Adaptive Mapping Method (AMM) is proposed in this project. Based on the analysis for the VGG8 model with CIFAR10 dataset, the experiment …

Mitigating Popularity Bias In Recommendation With Unbalanced Interactions: A Gradient Perspective, Weijieying Ren, Lei Wang, Kunpeng Liu, Ruocheng Guo, Ee-Peng Lim, Yanjie Fu
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Recommender systems learn from historical user-item interactions to identify preferred items for target users. These observed interactions are usually unbalanced following a long-tailed distribution. Such long-tailed data lead to popularity bias to recommend popular but not personalized items to users. We present a gradient perspective to understand two negative impacts of popularity bias in recommendation model optimization: (i) the gradient direction of popular item embeddings is closer to that of positive interactions, and (ii) the magnitude of positive gradient for popular items are much greater than that of unpopular items. To address these issues, we propose a simple yet efficient …

Electrical & Computer Engineering Theses & Dissertations
Cyber-physical systems (CPSs) are complex systems that evolve from the integrations of components dealing with physical processes and real-time computations, along with networking. CPSs often incorporate approaches merging from different scientific fields such as embedded systems, control systems, operational technology, information technology systems (ITS), and cybernetics. Today critical infrastructures (CIs) (e.g., energy systems, electric grids, etc.) and other CPSs (e.g., manufacturing industries, autonomous transportation systems, etc.) are experiencing challenges in dealing with cyberattacks. Major cybersecurity concerns are rising around CPSs because of their ever-growing use of information technology based automation. Often the security concerns are limited to probability-based possible attack …
Identification Of Factors Contributing To Traffic Crashes By Analysis Of Text Narratives, Cristian D. Arteaga-Sanchez
Identification Of Factors Contributing To Traffic Crashes By Analysis Of Text Narratives, Cristian D. Arteaga-Sanchez
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
The fatalities, injuries, and property damage that result from traffic crashes impose a significant burden on society. Current research and practice in traffic safety rely on analysis of quantitative data from crash reports to understand crash severity contributors and develop countermeasures. Despite advances from this effort, quantitative crash data suffers from drawbacks, such as the limited ability to capture all the information relevant to the crashes and the potential errors introduced during data collection. Crash narratives can help address these limitations, as they contain detailed descriptions of the context and sequence of events of the crash. However, the unstructured nature …
A Mechanically Intelligent Hosing-Drone, Blake Hament
A Mechanically Intelligent Hosing-Drone, Blake Hament
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
This manuscript presents a ”mechanically intelligent” approach to designing a Hosing-Drone for heavy-duty pressure washing. Spraying a hose creates strong reaction forces and torques. Previously demonstrated spraying robots are over-engineered to be very massive with huge inertias. These high inertias ”wash out” the reaction from the spraying. In the proposed approach, the contributions from all observable fluid dynamics, fluid structure interactions, and aerodynamics are studied individually and for the coupled system. Experimental data is collected and fit to dynamic models. These models are used to design a smaller, lighter, more agile vehicle than has been previously demonstrated. An impedance controller …
Design Of Environment Aware Planning Heuristics For Complex Navigation Objectives, Carter D. Bailey
Design Of Environment Aware Planning Heuristics For Complex Navigation Objectives, Carter D. Bailey
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
A heuristic is the simplified approximations that helps guide a planner in deducing the best way to move forward. Heuristics are valued in many modern AI algorithms and decision-making architectures due to their ability to drastically reduce computation time. Particularly in robotics, path planning heuristics are widely leveraged to aid in navigation and exploration. As the robotic platform explores and navigates, information about the world can and should be used to augment and update the heuristic to guide solutions. Complex heuristics that can account for environmental factors, robot capabilities, and desired actions provide optimal results with little wasted exploration, but …

A Pipeline To Generate Deep Learning Surrogates Of Genome-Scale Metabolic Models, Achilles Rasquinha
School of Computing: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Genome-Scale Metabolic Models (GEMMs) are powerful reconstructions of biological systems that help metabolic engineers understand and predict growth conditions subjected to various environmental factors around the cellular metabolism of an organism in observation, purely in silico. Applications of metabolic engineering range from perturbation analysis and drug-target discovery to predicting growth rates of biotechnologically important metabolites and reaction objectives within dierent single-cell and multi-cellular organism types. GEMMs use mathematical frameworks for quantitative estimations of flux distributions within metabolic networks. The reasons behind why an organism activates, stuns, or fluctuates between alternative pathways for growth and survival, however, remain relatively unknown. GEMMs …

Contribution Rate Calculation Method To System-Of-Systems Based On Interval-Valued Intuitionistic Fuzzy Number Anp, Zejian Ding, Songtao Sun, Zhiwen He, Fei Liu
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: Contribution rate to system-of-systems (CRSoS) is mainly used to measure the contribution of an equipment to system of systems (SoS) in system construction. In order to solve some problems in the calculation of CRSoS, a multi-level equipment indicator architecture of "task-ability-indicator- equipment" is proposed. At the same time, considering the characteristics of the equipment indicator architecture, ANP (analytic network process) and IVIFN (interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy number), a IVIF-ANP calculation method is proposed to obtain more accurate CRSoS. Experiments show that this method can not only solve the problem of the calculation formula of CRSoS, but also obtain more …

Abstract: In complex sea conditions with wind and waves, the relative motion between unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) requiring autonomous landing and ships is highly uncertain. In order to improve the accuracy of relative positioning and control during autonomous landing, and to ensure the safety and reliability of autonomous landing, a relative precise point positioning (RPPP) technique based on differential tropospheric error is proposed. The technology only relies on data link and carrier satellite positioning receiver to eliminate the same error of satellite positioning in the same environment and obtain accurate relative positioning. The combination of proportional navigation and linear quadratic …
