Multi-Uav Deployment And Collaborative Offloading For Large-Scale Iot Systems, Zhiqin Huang, Tianying Lu, Zheyi Chen
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: In large-scale internet-of-things (IoT) systems, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) enabled mobile edge computing (MEC) can alleviate the performance constraints on end IoT devices. However, due to the uneven distribution of IoT devices and inefficient problem-solving, how to efficiently perform computation offloading in large-scale IoT systems is a major challenge. Existing solutions generally cannot fit into dynamic multi-UAV scenarios, causing inefficient resource utilization and excessive response delay. To address these important challenges, this paper proposes a novel multi-UAV deployment and collaborative offloading (MUCO) method for large-scale IoT systems. A UAV deployment scheme based on constrained K-Means clustering is designed to …

In the algorithm design, the SPM chaotic mapping is used to improve the initial population distribution of the artificial rabbit optimization algorithm in view of the …

Research On Path Planning Method For Autonomous Underwater Vehicles Based On Improved Informed Rrt, Bensheng Qi, Yan Li, Hongxia Miao, Jialin Chen, Chenglin Li
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: In response to the autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) path planning problem in complex underwater environments, an improved path planning algorithm based on Informed rapidly-exploring random trees (RRT) is proposed in this study. A target-biased sampling strategy and a target-biased extension strategy are employed to address the issue of lack of goal orientation in the sampling process, ensuring that target nodes become sampling points during random sampling. During path points extension, non-target sampling points are guided in the direction of the target point, thereby enhancing the algorithm's ability to search for the target during random sampling and extension processes. A …

Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) have become increasingly popular as versatile platforms for tasks such as surveillance, inspection, delivery, and maintenance. In many applications, UAS operate in environments frequented by people or containing sensitive infrastructure, which introduces physical risks in case of vehicle failure, as well as psychological and privacy concerns that may limit their acceptability. Ensuring safe and efficient operation thus requires that UAS consider these risks when planning navigation strategies. While prior information, such as city maps and building layouts, can partially inform risk assessment, such data is often incomplete, necessitating real-time augmentation of risk maps using sensor information. …
Motion Planning For A Flexible Modular Raft Robot, Chun-Yi She
Motion Planning For A Flexible Modular Raft Robot, Chun-Yi She
Dartmouth College Master’s Theses
This thesis presents a hierarchical motion planning framework for SoftRafts, a modular and deformable aquatic robot capable of performing locomotion and manipulation tasks on water surfaces. SoftRafts consist of soft and rigid components that enable structural reconfiguration, offering adaptability in unstructured aquatic environments.
To address the complexity of planning in high-dimensional, deformable systems, the proposed method uses a bounding-shape abstraction, specifically, enclosing circles and rectangular bounding boxes to simplify motion planning. These enclosures abstract the robot's overall shape, reducing the high-dimensional planning problem into a lower-dimensional problem. A global planner uses a probabilistic roadmap (PRM) to compute a collision-free path …

The swift evolution of wireless communication technologies, particularly in the field of rf signals or in CBRS bands, demands increasingly sophisticated signal processing techniques to ensure efficient transmission, reception, and spectrum management.Traditional approaches to signal generation and reconstruction, although effective in controlled environments, often struggle to cope with the challenges presented by real-world noisy conditions, hardware constraints, and limited access to large-scale datasets. In response to these limitations, this thesis explores the application of diffusion models—a class of generative models known for their ability to produce high-fidelity samples—to the domain of spectrogram generation for communication signals.

Automatic Scoring Cornhole Board System, Eric Diffendal, Jonah Harsh, Connor Lengel, Brett Sukie
Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects
The objective is to create a self-scoring cornhole board that can detect and calculate each team's score based on the bags thrown each round and to be created at a low cost/eventually being sold at the current cost of a normal board. When playing cornhole, the game is simple: throw a bag on the board; however, the scores are variable (deduct and add) across each round. The most common issue when playing cornhole is miscalculations of the scores and forgetting the correct scores. Thus, this invention will make gameplay easy for all to play.

Analysis showed that, after expert vetting, AI-generated questions can foster higher-order problem-solving and reduce student reliance on solution memorization, though careful instructor oversight is required to ensure accuracy. The second study embedded an AI chatbot as a learning aid in …

Most of current anomaly detection models assume that the normal pattern remains the same all the time. However, the normal patterns of web services can change dramatically and frequently over time. The model trained on old-distribution data becomes outdated and ineffective after such changes. Retraining the whole model whenever the pattern is changed is computationally expensive. Further, at the beginning of normal pattern changes, there is not enough observation data from the new distribution. Retraining a large neural network model with limited data is vulnerable to overfitting. Thus, we propose a Light Anti-overfitting Retraining Approach (LARA) based on deep variational …

Drones, also referred to as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), are becoming popular today due to their uses in different fields and recent technological advancements which provide easy control of UAVs via mobile apps. However, UAVs may contain vulnerabilities or software bugs that cause serious safety and security concerns. For example, the communication protocol used by the UAV may contain authentication and authorization vulnerabilities, which may be exploited by attackers to gain remote access over the UAV. Drones must therefore undergo extensive testing before being released or deployed to identify and fix any software bugs or security vulnerabilities. Fuzzing is one …

Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: To solve the problem of increased computation and communication costs caused by using homomorphic encryption (HE) to protect all gradients in traditional cryptographic aggregation (cryptoaggregation) schemes, a fast crypto-aggregation scheme called RandomCrypt was proposed. RandomCrypt performed clipping and quantization to fix the range of gradient values and then added two types of noise on the gradient for encryption and differential privacy (DP) protection. It conducted HE on noise keys to revise the precision loss caused by DP protection. RandomCrypt was implemented based on a FATE framework, and a hacking simulation experiment was conducted. The results show that the proposed …
