Nyumba Ya Mungu Reservoir System Simulation By Using Hec-Ressim Model, Deogratias Mulungu Jun 2007

Nyumba Ya Mungu Reservoir System Simulation By Using Hec-Ressim Model, Deogratias Mulungu

Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)

This research paper focused on estimating effective water and optimization of the NyM reservoir for storage conservation and hydropower generation. Several models were used in the study: the Rainfall-Runoff model, GFFS was used to fill in missing data, and the HEC-ResSim Model and the NWBM for reservoir system simulation and water balance respectively. The effective inflows to the NyM reservoir were determined using HEC-ResSim model and the NWBM used to check the total water loss in the system. For the reservoir system simulation, the HEC-ResSim model was used to estimate water loss through irrigation abstractions in Kikuletwa and Ruvu reaches …

Socio-Economic Impacts Of Water Scarcity In Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, Shadrack Mwakalila Jun 2007

Socio-Economic Impacts Of Water Scarcity In Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, Shadrack Mwakalila

Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)

Drought and the resulting low water levels in rivers exacerbate water scarcity conditions in Dar es Salaam city. The result is frequent water rationing in areas served with piped water, sometimes for days or weeks, and low water pressure, which leads residents to resort to other less safe and sometimes more expensive water sources. The frequent and current response to the inadequate piped water supply in Dar es Salaam has been the use of groundwater resources. There are both public and private bore-holes and wells drilling companies in Dar es Salaam.. This paper therefore, presents some socio-economic impacts of water …

Using Pedotransfer Functions To Predict Saturated Hydraulic Conductivity For Layered Soil Profiles A Case Study At The Sokoine University Of Agriculture Farm, Tanzania, M. K. Mulengera Dec 2003

Using Pedotransfer Functions To Predict Saturated Hydraulic Conductivity For Layered Soil Profiles A Case Study At The Sokoine University Of Agriculture Farm, Tanzania, M. K. Mulengera

Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)

Saturated soil hydraulic conductivity (SHC), is useful for land resources management. But it is difficult, time consuming, and labour intensive to measure in the field. These problems can be overcome through the use of pedotransfer functions (PTFs), which relate the SHC to readily available soil physical, chemical, and biological parameters. The existing PTFs were developed in temperate countries using homogeneous core soil samples. Thus, these PTFs are not useful for tropical soils with different properties and for layered soil profiles. In this paper, field measured SHC values are related to representative profile soil properties (RSPSPs) that are determined using horizons’ …

Evaluation Of Water Levevaluation Of Water Levels In Relation To The Design Of Coastal Structures In Tanzaniaels In Relation To The Design Of Coastal Structures In Tanzania, Alfonse Dubi Jun 2002

Evaluation Of Water Levevaluation Of Water Levels In Relation To The Design Of Coastal Structures In Tanzaniaels In Relation To The Design Of Coastal Structures In Tanzania, Alfonse Dubi

Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)

Water levels on the coastline of Tanzania vary under the influence of meteorological conditions (winds and barometric pressure) and the East African Coastal Current, whose strength varies with the monsoon winds. Available tidal information is not enough to warrant statistical analysis for evaluating extreme water levels. The highest mean water springs occur at Bagamoyo and Pangani (3.93 m) and the lowest are found at Lindi (2.96 m). The highest astronomical tide is 3.7 m for Dar es Salaam and 4.6 m for Zanzibar, both of which occur during March/April and November. Measured highest water levels approach 4.80 m for Dar …

The Development Of Groundwater For Water Supply, C. F. Mhilu Dec 1999

The Development Of Groundwater For Water Supply, C. F. Mhilu

Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)

ABSTRACT This paper presents results of groundwater investigations carried out at Yombo Dovya Village, Temeke District in Dar es Salaam Region. The study has included hydrogeological and geoelectric resistivity sounding survey data obtained at the test site in Yombo village. The results of this investigation based on the application of vertical electrical sounding probe predictions have indicated the existence of reasonable amounts of groundwater resource for development. To verify these results borehole drilling tests were also conducted at the same site (Borehole No. DSM 79/99), and the results obtained by this method compares very well with those obtained earlier by …

Optimal Allocation Of Water Among Industries In Dar Es Salaam City, Tanzania, J. I. Matondo Jun 1988

Optimal Allocation Of Water Among Industries In Dar Es Salaam City, Tanzania, J. I. Matondo

Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)

Dar es Salaam is the city with the largest number of industries in Tanzania. However, the water demand for these industries is more than the supply. Therefore, there is a water use competing problem among the industries. Dynamic programming technique has been applied to optimally allocate the available water among the industries with the objective of maximizing the net benefits. Results reveal that, industries with the highest net return per unit of water will get the first priority of being allocated water.
