Bond Of Steel Reinforcement With Microwave Cured Concrete Repair Mortars, P. S. Mangat, Shahriar Abubakri, Konstantinos Grigoriadis

This paper investigates the effect of microwave curing on the bond strength of steel reinforcement in concrete repair. Pull-out tests on plain mild steel reinforcement bars embedded in four repair materials in 100 mm cube specimens were performed to determine the interfacial bond strength. The porosity and pore structure of the matrix at the steel interface, which influence the bond strength, were also determined. Test results show that microwave curing significantly reduces the bond strength of plain steel reinforcement. Effect Of Austempering Time On The Microstructure And Carbon Partitioning Of Ultrahigh Strength Steel 56nicrmov7, Quanshun Luo, Matthew Kitchen, Shahriar Abubakri

Ultrahigh strength steel 56NiCrMoV7 was austempered at 270 °C for different durations in order to investigate the microstructure evolution, carbon partitioning behaviour and hardness property. Detailed microstructure has been characterised using optical microscopy and field emission gun scanning electron microscopy. A newly developed X-ray diffraction method has been employed to dissolve the bainitic/martensitic ferrite phase as two sub-phases of different tetragonal ratios, which provides quantitative analyses of the carbon partitioning between the resultant ferrites and the retained austenite. The results show that, a short-term austempering treatment was in the incubation period of the bainite transformation, which resulted in maximum hardness …

This study was initiated with the aim of evaluating the impact of stabilized and untreated base layers on the performance (i.e., fatigue and rutting) of flexible pavements. Four field sections constructed using stabilized base layers (i.e., bituminous (asphalt emulsion), calcium chloride (CaCl-2), Portland cement, and geogrid stabilized base layers) and a control section constructed using untreated RAP aggregates were analyzed in this study. Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) tests were conducted on all the field sections and the collected data was used to backcalculate the elastic moduli for all layers. Hangar Q was built in Millville, New Jersey as a part of the Home Defense Program of World War II. The airport is now owned and operated by the Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) as the Millville Airport. Hangar Q was a historic nine-bow truss hangar when it was first constructed, standing at 30 feet high, 130 feet wide, and 160 feet deep. The bond strength between a concrete substrate and repair patch is critical to its durability. This paper investigates the effect of microwave curing the freshly applied repair, for 45 min at 132 Watts, on the 28 day bond strength between substrate concrete and different commercial repair materials. The repairs were applied at different ambient temperatures of 20, 10, 2 and −5 °C. Tensile split tests on repaired cube specimens were performed to determine the interfacial bond strength.
