Color Management Of Desktop Input Devices: Quantitative Analysis Of Profile Quality, Xiaoying Rong
Color Management Of Desktop Input Devices: Quantitative Analysis Of Profile Quality, Xiaoying Rong
Masters Theses
This thesis investigates the color management principle and input device profiling. The input devices discussed in this thesis are flatbed scanners.
In this thesis, the human visual system, CIE L*a*b* color space, ICC profiles are reviewed, and the evaluation of profile quality is discussed. Grayscale and standard color targets of three primary suppliers are used to create profiles for a scanner. The quantitative analyses of the quality of different profiles, created by two primary commercial profiling software, are conducted according to the Delta-E of the CIE L*a*b* color space. Finally, the relationship of different color targets and profiles for desktop …
Innovative Contracting Prequalification/Selection Model Using Analytical Hierarchy Process (Ahp), Saad J. Zidan
Innovative Contracting Prequalification/Selection Model Using Analytical Hierarchy Process (Ahp), Saad J. Zidan
Masters Theses
Design-Build, Cost-Plus-Time, and warranty are the three innovative contracting methods that the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) decided to fund. FHWA allowed the usage of these methods in federally funded projects if this will result in reducing time, improving quality, and saving tax payers' money. Prequalification is recognized as the best way of assuring that contractors do have the required qualifications to deliver projects successfully. Prequalification is even more critical when low-bid selection method is used with any of the innovative contracting, since incompetent contractors may get awarded for low-bids that are not based on valid assumptions.
This study presents a …
An Evaluation Of Public Construction Contracting Methods For The Public Building Sector In Oregon Using Data Envelopment Analysis, Gerald Herman Williams Jr.
An Evaluation Of Public Construction Contracting Methods For The Public Building Sector In Oregon Using Data Envelopment Analysis, Gerald Herman Williams Jr.
Dissertations and Theses
Since 1976 public agencies in Oregon have been allowed to select construction contractors using a "qualification" based competition instead of the more typical lowest responsible bid or Design-Bid-Build (DBB) basis. Since 1985, at least 136 such selections, commonly known as CM/GC for Construction Manager/General Contractor, have been made. The results of this policy have not previously been analyzed. This research compares these selection methods, seeking to answer the following questions:
-
Does the CMl/GC method result in projects that differ from DBB projects regarding cost and schedule control?
-
Are CMl/GC projects more efficient than DBB projects, where efficiency is defined as …
A Descriptive Performance Model Of Small, Low Cost, Diskless Beowulf Clusters, Curtis R. Nielson
A Descriptive Performance Model Of Small, Low Cost, Diskless Beowulf Clusters, Curtis R. Nielson
Theses and Dissertations
Commodity supercomputing clusters known as Beowulf clusters, have become a low cost alternative to traditional supercomputers. Beowulf clusters combine inexpensive computers and specialized software to achieve supercomputing power. The processing nodes in a diskless Beowulf cluster do not have a local hard disk unlike the nodes in most commodity clusters. Research has provided performance information for diskless clusters built with expensive, high performance equipment. Beowulf clusters use commodity off-the-shell hardware, and little information is available about their performance. This research includes the construction of several diskless Beowulf clusters. Using the NAS Parallel Benchmarks, the performance of these clusters was measured. …
Development Of A Redesign Plan For Moore Hall Using Architectural Principles Of Green Building And Sustainable Design, Alkhaziam Saad
Development Of A Redesign Plan For Moore Hall Using Architectural Principles Of Green Building And Sustainable Design, Alkhaziam Saad
Masters Theses
An existing in-use office and classroom building on Western Michigan University's main campus was chosen for a redesign project which incorporated study of architectural principles of green building and sustainable design. The study emphasized the central importance of buildings themselves in modem life, their effects on building users and their work, their effects on user relationships with one another and the surrounding environment, and the need to enhance the building's positive, natural, and life-supporting relationship with the total environment including the users.
The redesign problem statement reflected issues and ideas from recent architectural and building construction literature, which emphasized green …
Future Housing In The United States: Senior’S Housing Demand, Sandeep Singh
Future Housing In The United States: Senior’S Housing Demand, Sandeep Singh
Masters Theses
In the United States, persons born between 1942 and 1964 are within 10 to 15 years of traditional retirement age and are identified as baby boomers. The data shows that the number of persons aged 65 years and older have grown from 10 percent of the population in 1970 to nearly 13 percent in 1996. Furthermore, the population that is 65 years old or older is projected to be 20 percent of the population in 2030. As a result, the demographic change nurtures a demand for senior’s housing.
On the other hand, the concern is for the elderly living in …
Beyond The Big Dig, Robert Turner
Beyond The Big Dig, Robert Turner
New England Journal of Public Policy
For more than a decade, from the day that the decision was made to put Boston’s Central Artery underground, many forward-looking planners and designers have been conjuring up visions of the mile-long street-level corridor that would replace the elevated highway, reshaping the heart of downtown. By the end of 2001, the corridor had acquired a name, the Rose Kennedy Greenway, but work was far more advanced on the traffic tunnel underground than on the open space above. These precious twenty-seven acres had the potential to flower into a magnificent, vibrant urban oasis that would become known the world over. But …
A Proposed Military Construction Facility Investment Model, Andre R. Dempsey
A Proposed Military Construction Facility Investment Model, Andre R. Dempsey
Theses and Dissertations
The fiscal year (FY) 1999 and FY2000 National Defense Authorization Acts (NDAA) amended Title 10 USC, Section 17, and directed the secretary of defense to report annually on the capability of installations and facilities to provide support to forces in the conduct of their missions. This has come to be known as the Installations' Readiness Report (IRR). The Air Force's IRR links facility sustainment, restoration, and modernization (SRM) requirements, with the impact on the installation's ability to support the mission associated with the particular facility class. The Air Force's centralized military construction (MILCON) program model used to program major facility …

A Model For Integrating Construction Design And Schedule Data, Zhigang Shen, Raja R. A. Issa, William O'Brien
Department of Construction Engineering and Management: Faculty Publications
The difficulty of timely retrieval of useful information from heterogeneous data sources is a major cause of low productivity in the construction industry. The goal of this research is to provide a new methodology to handle the data-heterogeneity problems encountered in a construction project. This research proposes a tree-structured product model, which binds design knowledge, cost data and schedule data together, as a feasible solution for the data integration problem in construction projects. The methodology uses the knowledge representation of construction projects based on an ontology. Metadata are used to describe the conceptual structure of the project knowledge. The concept …
