A practical safety guide for the people who clear debris after disasters, and for the trainers who prepare them. Built for crews of every experience level--from seasoned operators to first-time volunteers--it teaches how to read a damaged site, recognize hidden and shifting hazards, work safely around heavy equipment and hazardous materials, and make sound decisions under pressure. Every chapter pairs clear guidance with a one-page field job aid, facilitator notes for trainers, and a real-world scenario, all grounded in OSHA, FEMA, EPA, and NIOSH guidance.

Construction Site Planning And Logistical Operations: Site-Focused Management For Builders, Second Edition, Randy R. Rapp, Bradley L. Benhart
Construction Site Planning And Logistical Operations: Site-Focused Management For Builders, Second Edition, Randy R. Rapp, Bradley L. Benhart
Purdue Handbooks in Building Construction
Organizing and administering a construction site so that the right resources get to the right place in a timely fashion demands strong leadership and a well-defined, disciplined process. Good logistical operations enable profitability, and this book is the essential, muddy boots guide to such management. Written by experienced educator–practitioners, Construction Site Planning and Logistical Operations is a popular guide to the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed by project superintendents, especially, but useful to all constructors. This second edition is updated to include new technologies, resources, and details of operational planning. Leadership imperatives and management techniques remain integrated throughout. The book …
Beyond The Waterfall: A Review Of Project Management Methodologies In Stem, Yessenia Henriquez
Beyond The Waterfall: A Review Of Project Management Methodologies In Stem, Yessenia Henriquez
Undergraduate Research Symposium Posters
Project management has been exercised from history's early stages to concurrent practices today. It has evolved from the early stages of the Gantt chart and five primary principles to well-renowned project management methodologies such as Waterfall and Agile. This literature review focuses on comprehending four project management methodologies (Waterfall, Agile, Kanban, and Scrum), learning their criteria and frameworks, and their application in a specific STEM environment when applicable. This work reviews the recent research literature about these four methods. An overview of project management certificates and guidelines is covered as well. Waterfall is known to be a traditional method, having …

Operations Research In Civil And Environmental Engineering, Nicholas Lownes
Open Educational Resource
The purpose of this text is introduce fundamental operations research techniques to the civil and/or environmental engineering student, providing a broad background in linear programming, integer programming and network optimization. The material is presented in such a manner so that the student does not need an extensive background in operations research or or linear algebra. Applications include transportation engineering, project management and general civil and environmental engineering applications.
Improving Active Learning Through Advanced Teaching Practices On An Online Course, Jin Ouk O. Choi
Improving Active Learning Through Advanced Teaching Practices On An Online Course, Jin Ouk O. Choi
UNLV Best Teaching Practices Expo
Since the outbreak of the COVID, there has been a great need to advance learning experiences and opportunities for students when the courses are taught remotely. To address the need, the author incorporated the teaching strategies learned from the Culturally Relevant & Responsive Teaching (CRRT) fellows program supported by the NSF TRANSCEnD project. In Fall 2021, the author implemented multiple new teaching techniques and strategies in the CEM453-653 course, delivered entirely online. The specific teaching practices and technologies are: 1) Delivering lectures both live (synchronous) and recordings (asynchronous); 2) Using adaptive technology (Mentimeter & WebEx Poll) with real-time feedback; 3) …
Collective Risk Of Construction Development On Desert Tortoise Populations, Paulina Smith
Collective Risk Of Construction Development On Desert Tortoise Populations, Paulina Smith
Undergraduate Research Symposium Posters
Desert tortoises (Gopherus agassizii) are threatened, extremely territorial reptiles living on a rapidly-shrinking landscape. This literature review was conducted with the goal of determining whether the desert tortoises of the Mojave Desert are experiencing compounded effects from construction development which are not reflected in mortality/fecundity calculations in the current literature. Seventeen peer-reviewed sources were identified from the last 20 years which related to roads, railroads, wind-harvesting, solar energy, and man-made barriers/flood control centers in the Mojave. Current literature reveals that researchers do not have the time nor resources to pursue long-term studies on all of the possible effects on this …

Using Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (Upv) To Predict Properties And Performance Of Pervious Concrete, Jeremy Adato, Norbert Delatte
Using Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (Upv) To Predict Properties And Performance Of Pervious Concrete, Jeremy Adato, Norbert Delatte
Undergraduate Research Posters 2013
Pervious concrete is a type of porous portland cement concrete with interconnected voids. This material has been increasingly used to reduce the amount of stormwater runoff from paved areas. It has also been shown to improve the water quality near low volume and low speed pavements as well as in parking lots. Due to the low compressive strength of pervious concrete associated with the high void content, it currently is not used in highway structures except perhaps as an overlay for conventional concrete pavement. The large, open pore structure of this material allows water to pass through its structure, thereby …

Deep Drains To Manage Groundwater, Neil Cox, Sylvia Tetlow, Neil Coles
Deep Drains To Manage Groundwater, Neil Cox, Sylvia Tetlow, Neil Coles
Bulletins 4000 -
A channel that is 1.0 m to 3.0 m in depth is considered to be a deep drain. The drain is excavated to a depth that is sufficient to intercept the watertable in order to capture and convey that groundwater from flat, poorly drained land.
The drain can either be ‘open’ to allow the inflow of surface water or ‘leeved’ to exclude surface water. An open deep drain has its spoil banks placed on one side or on alternate sides of the channel (Figure 1) while a leveed deep drain has continuous spoil banks placed on both sides of the …

Bulletin No 3887 - Cattle Yard Construction, Western Australian Department Of Agriculture
Bulletins - 3000 - 3999
Good cattle yards allow animals to be handled quietly, safely and efficiently. If yards are well designed, animal uneasiness is minimised and so, too, are frayed tempers.
This bulletin outlines general points of cattle yard design and construction. There are many and varied cattle yard designs in use—many good ones and some bad ones. This bulletin should help in avoiding the bad ones.
