Cal Poly Caed Interdisciplinary Competition, Richard Nguyen May 2018

Cal Poly Caed Interdisciplinary Competition, Richard Nguyen

Construction Management

In an effort to promote relationships between Construction management students with other majors in Cal Poly’s College of Architecture and Environmental Design, an interdisciplinary competition should be encouraged. Targeted towards second-year students, an interdisciplinary competition will provide valuable experience in competition environment, while establishing relationships with students in other majors. Each team member will learn more about the other professions and the issues affecting their work. Conducted over an academic quarter (10 weeks), students will be presented with site information and strategic development plan materials to support the effort. The teams require participation and input from architectural engineering, architecture, city …

Journeyman International - Dream Soccer Academy Cameroon, Gerhard Hohbach

Construction Management

This project based senior project was completed through Journeyman International, an organization that pairs Architecture, Architectural Engineering and Construction Management students with projects in need of their services. This document contains the Construction Management students portion of the work. The DREAM Soccer Academy is a group of coaches and mentors that counsels and guides youth in Mamfe, Cameroon, empowering the youth through soccer. The organization is seeking to expand their operations to a housing, education and sports facility soccer. The proposed design includes two dormitories, three soccer fields, six classrooms, conference rooms, an indoor gym, cafeteria, health center, cafeteria, bleachers …

Collaborative Strategies For Sea Level Rise Adaptation In Hampton Roads, Virginia, Carol Considine, Emily Steinhilber Jan 2018

Collaborative Strategies For Sea Level Rise Adaptation In Hampton Roads, Virginia, Carol Considine, Emily Steinhilber

Engineering Technology Faculty Publications

[Introduction] The Hampton Roads region is located in southeastern Virginia where the Chesapeake Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean. The region includes seventeen municipal governments and has a large federal government presence with 26 federal agencies represented (See Figure 1). The region has a population that exceeds 1.7 million and is home to the deepest water harbor on the U.S. East Coast. Hampton Roads' economy is dependent on the local waterways and houses the world's largest naval facility, the sixth largest containerized cargo complex and supports a thriving shipbuilding and repair industry as well as a tourism industry. However, the region's …

Development Of The New Educational Content "Small Uas In Civil Engineering Application Scenarios", E. Levin, K. Vach, R. Shults

Michigan Tech Publications, Part 1

The key point of this paper is presentation of the main idea and some results of the project "Small UAS in civil engineering application scenarios" (SUAS-CAS). This project was proposed by newly established in 2016 ISPRS WG V/7: "Innovative Technologies in Training Civil Engineers and Architects". Here we are presenting our experience in using low-cost UAS in training architects at Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture, which was chosen as basic for this project. In the first part of paper, the project outline is presented. Then the first and possible follow project outcomes were described. In some details is …

Applications Of Ultra-High Performance Fiber-Reinforced Concrete On Flexural Structural And Architectural Members, Venkatesh Babu Kaka May 2017

Applications Of Ultra-High Performance Fiber-Reinforced Concrete On Flexural Structural And Architectural Members, Venkatesh Babu Kaka

Civil Engineering Theses - Archive

This thesis presents the test results of a study on flexural and shear behavior of Ultra-High-Performance Fiber-Reinforced concrete (UHP-FRC) beams, reinforced with Grade 60 steel (ASTM A615/A615M), Grade 100 steel (ASTM A1035/A1035M) and Basalt fiber reinforced polymer (BFRP) bars. Ultra-high-performance fiber-reinforced concrete (UHP-FRC) has high compressive strength (> 22 ksi (150 MPa)) and exceptional compressive ductility. The use of UHP-FRC provides new opportunities for future infrastructure. However, structural design criteria have not been developed to fully utilize UHP-FRC’s excellent mechanical properties. Maximum useable compressive strain, ecu, specified in the current design codes (ACI 318 Building Code and AASHTO LRFD Bridge …

Sustainable Architecture Design: Environmental And Economic Benefits, Michael Babcock Apr 2016

Sustainable Architecture Design: Environmental And Economic Benefits, Michael Babcock

Senior Honors Theses

This thesis examines the movement of environmentalism, and its impact on architecture and construction. During an interview with a professional architect, a basis for research of sustainable design was devised, when he explained that “good” architecture attempts to holistically integrate the external and built environment. Presently, the main measurement for sustainability is energy efficiency. Therefore, architects constantly implement new technology in an attempt to unify both the external and built environment in an energy efficient manner. Furthermore, this thesis provides an environmental and financial cost analysis of implementing sustainable design and build. Research shows that the life cycle and up-front …

A Social Metamodel To Control The Participatory Process In Complex System Modelling, Michel Lample, Denis Bailly, Johanna Ballé-Béganton Jun 2014

A Social Metamodel To Control The Participatory Process In Complex System Modelling, Michel Lample, Denis Bailly, Johanna Ballé-Béganton

International Congress on Environmental Modelling and Software

The metamodel framework is a new tool for co-construction of models involving societal or political participation. Rather than an attempt to model the social factor by numerical techniques which amounts to project the social paradigm in the model paradigm, the metamodel framework provides a way to overcome the difficulties of social behaviour by an inverse projection of the model paradigm into the social one. The framework asks for a strict methodology based on a suitable agenda, a quality process and the management by an Architect team. Furthermore, this framework accommodates lean modelling techniques that system platforms are able to provide.
