Installation Direction Design And Construction Control Of Sliding Bearing Of Continuous Girder Bridge, Guan Changlu, Sun Xiudong, Dong Hao, Wang Xingzhou
Journal of China & Foreign Highway
Continuous girder bridges can improve the structural stress, increase the structural bearing capacity, and promote ride comfort. However, some continuous girder bridges suffer from issues such as bearing dislocation, upper torsion, and damage to seismic arrestors. To identify deficiencies in current design and construction control,an in-depth analysis of these issues was conducted. The findings reveal the main reason is that the bidirectional sliding bearings (nearly half of the total ) fail to provide horizontal force, and the main sliding direction of the unidirectional sliding bearings is inconsistent with the deformation of the bridge superstructure. In this paper, factors including temperature-induced deformation, material shrinkage, elastic compression, creep, and construction process control of the bridge superstructure were …

Reliability Analysis Of Long‑Span Concrete Box Arch Bridge Under Temperature Effect Combinations, Zheng Junlin, Jiang Youbao, Zheng Xinhao, Lu Naiwei
Journal of China & Foreign Highway
The existing design methods for concrete arch bridge structures do not consider the random characteristics of the eccentricity generated by load effects and overlook the influence of stochastic eccentricity on structural reliability. To address this deficiency,a calculation model for eccentricity under temperature effect combinations was derived. The random characteristics of eccentricity for different sections of the main arch of concrete arch bridges and their sectional bearing capacities were analyzed under different load parameter combinations.By utilizing the Monte Carlo method, reliability indices were computed for different sections of the main arch and different load parameter combinations after considering the random characteristics of eccentricity. The results …

Journal of China & Foreign Highway
In order to avoid the problem of matrix cracking in textile-reinforced concrete (TRC ),a reinforcement method of textile-reinforced engineered cementitious composites (ECC ),namely TRECC composed of textile and high-performance ECC was proposed. However, the research on the axial compressive mechanical properties of TRECC-constrained concrete in China and abroad is still insufficient, and there is a lack of reliable strength and ultimate strain analysis models.A total of 116 axial compression test results of TRC-constrained concrete columns and 125 axial compression test results of TRECC-constrained concrete columns were collected. The confinement mechanisms and failure modes of TRECC and TRC-constrained concrete were compared. Then, the strength models and ultimate …

Journal of China & Foreign Highway
At present, the highway bridge scheme requires continuous adjustments and upgrading due to iterative updates of design data and refined investigation of the surrounding environment of the bridge site. This paper upgraded the traditional route design software, developed a GIS-integrated platform, built a three-dimensional environment with design data as the core, and created a bridge scheme model through parametric intelligent design. It also evaluated and optimized the bridge scheme based on the integration of the bridge model and the surrounding environment. The results show that by using BIM technology, the forward design of a bridge scheme based on a three-dimensional environment is realized. This approach automates the scale statistics …
Predicting The Indirect Cost Of Construction Projects In Egypt: An Artificial Neural Network Approach, Aya Effat
Theses and Dissertations
Cost estimation is one of the vital processes in construction management that needs to be done early in any project in order to determine the project's budget. The accuracy of the cost estimate is a key factor in the success of construction projects since it enables project managers to successfully control the project’s expenses. Construction costs mainly consist of direct cost and indirect cost. Generally, indirect costs can be categorized into two types: site overheads and general overheads. In a construction project, overheads, particularly site overhead costs, make up a considerable portion of a contractor's budget. Accordingly, accurately estimating the …

Construction Change Order Data As Inputs For A Programmatic Risk Model, Eric C. Klein
Theses and Dissertations
Hurricane Michael struck Tyndall Air Force Base as a Category 5 storm with 160 mph winds, damaging or destroying 90% of its infrastructure (484 buildings). This devastation prompted the Department of Defense to rebuild Tyndall as the “Installation of the Future,” encompassing 44 Military Construction (MILCON) projects and 260 Facility Restoration, Sustainment, and Modernization (FRSM) projects. Since reconstruction began, over 630 Change Request Forms (CRFs) have been closed, adding $67.8 million in costs and 4,880 construction days. The Air Force Civil Engineer Center's Natural Disaster Recovery (NDR) Division developed a programmatic risk model to predict future costs and delays. However, …

Advanced Construction Scheduling: Capturing Conditional And Stochastic Relationships, Amr Elsabagh
Advanced Construction Scheduling: Capturing Conditional And Stochastic Relationships, Amr Elsabagh
Theses and Dissertations
Proper planning is a key factor in all business endeavors. This is especially important in the construction industry as a project is sensitive to countless factors that affect the project's time and cost. This created the need for agile and flexible schedules for close monitoring and dynamic planning for construction projects. The currently prevailing scheduling techniques are CPM and PERT, which professionals in the field widely use. These methods create static schedules that are vulnerable to any changes in the schedule logic, which often happens during construction projects. In addition, these Scheduling techniques do not capture the uncertainties and complex …

Optimizing And Validation Of Sustainable Uhpc With Waste Glass Powder Utilizing Modified Particle Packing Approach And Response Surface Methodology, Mohamed Taman, Elsaid Maaty, Alaa Mehrez, Ahmed Kamal Isaac
Journal of Engineering Research
The current study explores the potential of utilizing Waste glass powder (WGP) as an alternative to cement in the development of sustainable eco-friendly Ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC). UHPC mixtures underwent optimization through the application of a Modified Andreasen and Andersen (MAA) particle packing model, resulting in a reduction of cement content from 900 to 800 kg/m3. Six mixes were cast, with varying levels of cement replacement ratios with WGP up to 50%. The evaluation focuses on the flowability, dry density, and mechanical properties of UHPC at different ages using normal curing. A statistical model utilizing response surface methodology (RSM) …
Material Suppliers’ Perspective On Collaboration In Industrial Construction Projects, Seogjae Choi, William J. O'Brien
Material Suppliers’ Perspective On Collaboration In Industrial Construction Projects, Seogjae Choi, William J. O'Brien
Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
Material suppliers' involvement in construction project planning has been recommended as an effective measure to improve project performance by using their expertise. However, the recommendation is not universal, and some researchers disputed the value of early involvement of suppliers depending on material type. Moreover, prior studies considered main contractors' and owners' perspectives mostly in examining how to increase the involvement of suppliers. To add material suppliers' perspective, this study conducted interviews with experienced professionals from 16 material suppliers including standardized, make-to-order, and custom products. The results are specified by separating the type of materials and sub-phases of planning. The results …

Forecasting State-Level Construction Labor Earnings For Enhanced Project Cost Control: An Econometric And Deep-Learning Analysis Of The Leading Economic Indicators, Ahmed Shiha, Islam H. El-Adaway
Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
As a major input to several work packages, the labor element constitutes a critical component for successful performance of construction projects. Localized labor shortages, fundamental changes in prevailing wage laws, and historical shifts in the unionization rates of construction workers impair the adequate estimation of construction labor costs in diverse labor market dynamics. Meanwhile, existing studies have utilized national-level indicators to study the trends of construction labor costs, but the relationship between the multifaceted local economic factors and state-level construction labor costs remains understudied. This paper fills such a knowledge gap. A three-stage methodology is adopted: (1) data collection of …
