This research studied the simulations of the integrated systems between of hydrotreating and hydrogen generation with various selectivity of deoxygenation (DO) pathways (i.e. decarboxylation (DCO2), hydrodecarbonylation (HDCO), and hydrodeoxygenation (HDO)). Two integrated systems were proposed i.e. 1) integrated system between single-step hydrotreating and propane steam reforming (as called "single-step integrated system") and 2) integrated system between two-step hydrotreating (hydrolysis+DO) and glycerol steam reforming (as called "two-step integrated system"). Results revealed that, among DO pathways, DCO2 exhibited the lowest total minimum energy requirement (total MER) and the highest total efficiency for both integrated systems mainly due to lower electricity requirement to …

This research investigated the modification of TiO2 electrode by adding the second metal oxide, namely, manganese dioxide (MnO2), cobalt oxide (CoO), or tin dioxide (SnO2) use in for dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSCs). TiO2 and modified TiO2 sols were synthesized via sol-gel methods. The sols were sprayed 500 times onto the fluorine-doped tin oxide glass substrates as a thin film using an ultrasonic spray coater. Finally, the thin film electrode was calcined at 400ºC for two hours. The amount of MnO2, CoO, or SnO2 was varied at 0, 0.1, 0.5, 1.0, and 3.0%wt. The synthesis of star-shaped poly(ethylene glycol) was synthesized from pentetic acid (PA) and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) by polycondensation reaction in order to solve the problem of the melt strength of the molten polymer of poly(lactic acid). In this study, the star-shaped poly(ethylene glycol) were synthesized with a different molecular weight of neat poly(ethylene glycol) of 200, 400 and 600 g/mol. After that, the chemical structure of product-PEG was investigated by FTIR and NMR techniques. This research was studied the effects of the type of divalent metal oxide (Cu, Co, Ni, and Zn) supported on magnesium oxide catalyst using the hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as the capping agent with metal loading at 1.5, 5, and 10 mmol/gram-catalyst on lactic acid production from glucose. Furfuryl alcohol (FA) is an important intermediate for the manufacturing of many fine chemical products such as furan, resin, vitamin C, and lysine. In this research, the selective hydrogenation of furfural to FA was carried out in a batch reactor at 50ºC, 20 bar H2 and 2 h reaction time using Pt (0.5 wt. %) on TiO2 support. The Pt/TiO2 catalysts were prepared by the incipient wetness impregnation on different commercial TiO2 polymorphs and different temperatures calcined TiO2 sol-gel. Multi-component Ion Exchange (MIE) was proved to be a major mechanism occurred during Low Salinity Waterflooding (LSWF). Reduction of both total salinity and concentration of divalent ions of injected water together with a presence of monovalent ion results in dissolution of divalent ions linking between rock surface and oil. As a consequence, oil is liberated from rock surface. This study aims to study effects of monovalent ions in MIE mechanism. Low Salinity Waterflooding (LSWF) has been intensively studied worldwide as it is a low-cost technique. By injecting water with very low salinity compared to formation water in the reservoir, the method changes equilibrium between rock surface, oil and surrounding water, causing wettability alteration through Multi-component Ion Exchange (MIE) mechanism. This research focuses on how to use natural fibers available from agricultural residues to produce biodegradable materials such as mulch films. Green composites were prepared from natural fibers (peanut shell and bagasse fiber) and polylactic acid (PLA) together with plasticizers. The presence of plasticizers improved PLA molecular mobility as seen by the reduction of glass transition, cold crystallization, and melting temperatures. The addition of natural fibers into PLA brought down decomposition temperature when compared to PLA. The morphological study of the composites showed poor interfacial adhesion between natural fibers and PLA matrix. Moreover, the loading of plasticizers improved distribution of …

Palm oil and kaolinite are used as representatives of oily soil and particulate soil, respectively. Silver (Ag) and Manganese (Mn) catalysts were loaded on TiO₂ and Al₂O₃ supports on quartz wool that were tested for the oxidation of mixed Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) of benzene, toluene, and xylene in nonthermal plasma corona discharge. The total feed concentration of VOCs was fixed at 100 ppm. The energy conservation by heat exchanger network (HEN) is important in process design according to an increase of energy costs and global environmental concerns. To minimize the energy consumption with positive net present value (NPV), the retrofitted HEN plays an important role in process energy systems. The HEN retrofit model is based on stage-wise superstructure by Yee and Grossmann (1990). In addition, fouling deposition on the surface area of heat exchangers causes extra energy consumption, production loss and maintenance costs. Roles of promoters become necessary in methane hydrate formation for the attempt of gas storage application, but some additives might cause unwanted results in gas recovery. The effects of amino acids (l-leucine and l-valine) and surfactants, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), and methyl ester sulfonate (MES) was investigated at 8 MPa and 2 to 4 °C. The oxidation of mixed volatile organic compounds (VOCs) of benzene, tol-uene and xylene in non-thermal plasma corona discharge was investigated. An initial total VOCs concentration of 100 ppm and feed flow rate of 50.0 ml/min were firstly fixed to investigate the effects of an applied voltage and input frequency on VOCs conversion, power consumption and CO₂ and CO selectivities. Kinetic Monte-Carlo simulation was utilized to study the kinetic behaviors of C₁ and C₂ formation in the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis over the cobalt surface by varying reaction conditions. Two reaction models: the carbide mechanism and the CO insertion mechanism were applied to this simulation. The production rates and fractional coverages of each adsorbed species could be calculated under the steady state. The porous materials, hollow silica (HSC) and activated carbon (AC), were selected to investigate their effects with water on methane hydrate formation and dissociation. Heat Exchanger Network (HEN) design has been studied for 40 years starting from heuristic technique; pinch analysis and design method to mathematical programming. The stage-wise superstructure by mathematical programming from Yee and Grossmann (1990) was one of the famous models suitable for industrial HEN design under assumption of constant average specific heat capacity (Cp) which generally should be fitted by empirical form of cubic equation. Zhu and Asante (1999) and Ayotte-Sauvé et al. (2017) used piece-wise linearization called stream segment model, to approximate Cp. This work studied the effects of chemical liquid deposition, i.e., TEOS concentration and multicycle silylation on Ga/HZSM-5 on their catalytic performance in aromatization of n-pentane. The parent nano scale HZSM-5 zeolite catalysts were incorporated with Ga by impregnation method followed by silylation via chemical liquid deposition (CLD) using tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) by varying concentrations and number of cycles.
