Segmentation And Classification Of Left Ventricular Abnormalities In Cardiac Mri Using Initial Point Prediction Based Deformable Model, Md. Asadur Rahman, Md. Al Noman, A. B. M. Aowlad Hossain

Future Computing and Informatics Journal

The shape of the left ventricle (LV) of a cardiac magnetic resonance image (CMRI) helps physicians to diagnose different cardiac abnormalities. The similarity of pixel intensity and shape of LV with neighbor tissues, the imprecision of boundaries, and the presence of noise are the challenges to accurate segmentation of LV. This paper contributes to the successful implementation of an automatic edge contouring method to segment LV area from CMRI and detect whether the ventricle belongs to abnormalities. This method proposes the regression-based artificial neural network to predict the possible initial position of the deformable edge-based active contour model for precise …

Secured Blockchain And Fractional Discrete Cosine Transform-Based Framework For Medical Images, Abhay Kumar Yadav, Virendra P. Vishwakarma Apr 2024

Secured Blockchain And Fractional Discrete Cosine Transform-Based Framework For Medical Images, Abhay Kumar Yadav, Virendra P. Vishwakarma

Makara Journal of Technology

Images can store large amounts of data and are useful for transmitting large amounts of information across different geographical locations using different cloud services. This data sharing increases the chances of cyber-attacks on digital images. Blockchain has properties that enable it to work as a solution to this problem, providing enhanced security and unchangeable storage. However, image size poses a challenge in image storage, as it increases the related storage cost. Compressing images using fractional discrete cosine transform (fctDCT) reduces the amount of data required to express an image securely. This paper presents a novel framework for securely storing and …

Cbct In Clinical Practice, Tarunjeet Pabla Bds, Dmd, Ms, Dip. Abomr, Hugo C. Campos Dds, Dmd, Mds, Dip. Abomr, Aruna Ramesh Bds, Dmd, Ms, Dip. Abomr Mar 2022

Cbct In Clinical Practice, Tarunjeet Pabla Bds, Dmd, Ms, Dip. Abomr, Hugo C. Campos Dds, Dmd, Mds, Dip. Abomr, Aruna Ramesh Bds, Dmd, Ms, Dip. Abomr

The Journal of the Michigan Dental Association

This feature explores the integration of Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) into dental practice, offering guidelines for best practices. Introduced in 2001, CBCT revolutionized dental radiography, impacting various clinical areas. The article emphasizes the need for clinicians to comprehend CBCT technology, its benefits, and potential risks. It delves into CBCT imaging considerations, technical parameters (Field of View, Voxel Size, Spatial and Contrast Resolution), image viewing, artifacts, machine calibration, and service. Addressing radiation dose, risks, and protection, the article outlines decision-making for 2D vs. 3D imaging. It underscores the responsibility of interpreting CBCT images, legal considerations, return on investment, and the …

3d Printing In Healthcare, Caleb Branch May 2015

3d Printing In Healthcare, Caleb Branch

The Review: A Journal of Undergraduate Student Research

Technology is everywhere. Technology surrounds every aspect of 21st century life. It is in the cell phones we use, the cars we drive, and even the food we eat. A large portion of modern technology used is taken for granted and overlooked. Despite this, some technology fields continue to grow. Biomedical engineering, specifically 3D printing’s applications to healthcare, has been often overlooked until. Regardless of its status in the mainstream, 3D printing is prosperous in healthcare and its future looks bright. This piece analyzes 3D printing in healthcare. It hones in on the finer details of each specific topic, …

A Computational Model Of Breast Ducts, Jordan Greenlee Jan 2009

A Computational Model Of Breast Ducts, Jordan Greenlee

Inquiry: The University of Arkansas Undergraduate Research Journal

Ductal Carcinoma represents almost 75% of breast cancer. In this specific type of cancer. malignant cells in the breast ducts invade the surrounding healthy tissue. Almost all researchers who are investigating microwave modality in the area of breast cancer detection employ oversimplified models of the internal structure of the breast. Use of engineered or biologically inaccurate models can render inaccurate results. Therefore. a mathematical biological model was implemented in this work aiming to bridge the gap between physiologists and engineers. The result show that the proposed breast duct model has the capability of modeling the breast ducts of different kinds …

Validation Of Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectrometry As A Method To Standardize Backscattered Electron Images Of Bone, E. G. Vajda, R. D. Bloebaum, J. G. Skedros Jan 1996

Validation Of Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectrometry As A Method To Standardize Backscattered Electron Images Of Bone, E. G. Vajda, R. D. Bloebaum, J. G. Skedros

Cells and Materials

The use of backscattered electron (BSE) imaging as a tool for the qualitative measurement of mineral content in bone has been well documented. The challenge still remains to develop BSE imaging as a tool for quantitative mineral content analysis in bone. The limiting factor has been the ability to standardize the BSE signal within and between laboratories. Energy dispersive x-ray spectrometry (EDX) has been proposed as a method to standardize the BSE operating environment. The goal of this study is to investigate the relationship between EDX-determined wt.% Ca measurements and BSE graylevels. A comparison with traditional ash content measurements will …
