The Role Of User Experience In Virtual Reality Flight Training: A Comparison With Pc-Based Simulation, Tianxin Zhang, Christina M. Frederick, Barbara Chaparro
Journal of Aviation/Aerospace Education & Research
The current project explores how user experience (UX) in virtual reality (VR) flight simulation influences both cognitive learning outcomes and procedural skill acquisition when compared to traditional desktop-based simulation.. Using a quasi-transfer of training design, 48 student pilots were randomly assigned to VR, Desktop, or Control groups and trained on the Chandelle maneuver. UX was measured with the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ), while training effectiveness was evaluated through a post-training knowledge test and recorded maneuver performance on a high-fidelity flight training device. Results indicated that the VR group reported significantly higher UX scores in Attractiveness, Stimulation, and Novelty, and showed …
Examining The Impact Of Stress On Collegiate Flight Students, Shivanee D. Cannon-Patron
Examining The Impact Of Stress On Collegiate Flight Students, Shivanee D. Cannon-Patron
Beyond: Undergraduate Research Journal
Stress may negatively affect the timely completion of a student pilot's flight training. A student pilot influenced by stress may be subject to what is known as "falling behind the aircraft," a condition that constantly requires minor interventions from their flight instructor. This lack of situational awareness and decreased performance may inadvertently cause the student pilot to repeat the flight lesson, increasing the time spent in the training course.
Effectiveness Of A Flight Simulation Training Visual Aid For Normal And Crosswind Approach And Landing, Shlok Misra, Victor Fraticelli Rivera, Nikhil Khale, Jorge L. D. Albelo Ph.D.
Effectiveness Of A Flight Simulation Training Visual Aid For Normal And Crosswind Approach And Landing, Shlok Misra, Victor Fraticelli Rivera, Nikhil Khale, Jorge L. D. Albelo Ph.D.
International Journal of Aviation, Aeronautics, and Aerospace
Flight simulators have a significant contribution to effective and efficient flight training across the globe. Significant literature has suggested the effectiveness of simulation tools in training pilots in different scenarios and is an area for continued development and research. To continue those efforts, this study assessed the effectiveness of visual aid to be used as an instructional aid for flight instruction for crosswind landings. The need for further training in crosswind landing is substantiated due to the significantly high number of accidents for General Aviation aircraft in the approach and landing phase of flights. The study utilized an experimental research …
An Exploratory Study Of Us Navy T-45c Simulation Training, Aaron D. Judy Ed.D., Tom Gollery Ed.D.
An Exploratory Study Of Us Navy T-45c Simulation Training, Aaron D. Judy Ed.D., Tom Gollery Ed.D.
Journal of Applied Social Science Research and Practice
Flight training is costly and workload intensive. According to a recent Government Accountability Office (GAO) report, the US Navy and US Air Force predict a 25% shortage of fighter pilots by 2023 (GAO, 2018). The military needs empirical research to determine the effectiveness of flight simulation training and whether simulation training can decrease the overall training time for student pilots. The purpose of this study was to compare intermediate and advanced military student pilots’ scores on the T-45C OFT simulator training events and scores on the T-45C aircraft training events in four training domains; the intervention in this study included …
U.S. Navy Pilot Competence: An Exploratory Study Of Flight Simulation Training Versus Actual Aircraft Training, Aaron D. Judy, Tom Gollery
U.S. Navy Pilot Competence: An Exploratory Study Of Flight Simulation Training Versus Actual Aircraft Training, Aaron D. Judy, Tom Gollery
Journal of Applied Social Science Research and Practice
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between US Navy T-45C flight simulation training time, actual aircraft training time, and intermediate and advanced jet pilot competence as measured by the Naval Standard Score (NSS). Examining the relationships between US Navy T-45C flight simulation time and actual aircraft flight time may provide further information on flight simulation training versus actual aircraft training to aviation authorities, flight instructors, the military aviation community, the commercial aviation community, and academia. The study was non-experimental, correlational, causal-comparative with an emphasis upon the establishment of mathematic and predictive relationships using archival data from …
