A Comprehensive Review Of Natural Gas-Diesel Dual-Fuel Engines: Efficiency, Emissions, And Engine Performance, Medhat Elkelawy Prof. Dr, Eng., E. A. El Shenawy Prof. Dr., Hagar Alm-Eldin Bastawissi Prof. Dr. Eng., Mohamed Mostafa Shafey Eng
Journal of Engineering Research
Natural gas (NG) diesel dual-fuel systems have emerged as a promising advancement in internal combustion engine (ICE) technology, offering significant potential for reducing emissions, while maintaining high fuel efficiency and performance standards. This review critically examines the combustion characteristics, operational performance, emissions mitigation potential, and the engineering challenges associated with engine modifications and fuel system compatibility. Furthermore, the role of dual-fuel technology within broader global climate change mitigation strategies is explored. Extensive evidence from the literature confirms that NG-diesel dual-fuel engines can achieve substantial reductions in nitrogen oxides (NOₓ) emissions up to 53% particulate matter (PM) by over 60%, and …

Gasoline is the primary source of energy in combustion engines, despite some drawbacks, such as knocking inside the engine, incomplete combustion, and the production of high emissions. The main trend has been toward the use of chemical additives as improvers, including oxidizing additives and aromatic hydrocarbon compounds. Both additives have an effect on the combustion process. Oxidizing additives improve the combustion process inside the chamber by adding additional oxygen to the fuel, which helps accelerate flame propagation, such as ethanol and oleo-octane plus. On the other hand, aromatic additives are used to increase the octane number, which in turn enhances …
Performance And Emissions Characteristics Of Multi-Cylinder Direct Injection Diesel Engine Fuelled With Diesel/Biodiesel And Toluene Additives, Hagar Alm-Eldin Bastawissi, Medhat Elkelawy Prof. Dr. Eng., Mohammed Osama Elsamadony Dr. Eng., Moustafa Ghazaly Eng.
Performance And Emissions Characteristics Of Multi-Cylinder Direct Injection Diesel Engine Fuelled With Diesel/Biodiesel And Toluene Additives, Hagar Alm-Eldin Bastawissi, Medhat Elkelawy Prof. Dr. Eng., Mohammed Osama Elsamadony Dr. Eng., Moustafa Ghazaly Eng.

This study explores the impact of using a diesel, biodiesel, and toluene additive fuel blend in a multi-cylinder direct injection diesel engine, focusing on both performance and emissions characteristics. Biodiesel, made from renewable sources like vegetable oils, is often added to diesel to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and improve combustion due to its higher oxygen content. In this work, a 45% biodiesel blend (B45) led to significant reductions in particulate matter (PM) emissions by up to 40% compared to conventional diesel. Additionally, carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbon (HC) emissions decreased by up to 30% and 25%, respectively, due to …

Engine emissions are one of numerous factors that have detrimentally affected the environment, such as global warming, which is the result of growing exhaust gases, practically carbon dioxide (CO2). These emissions have substantially influenced researchers to develop strategic initiatives to minimize the carbon contents of fuels. The purpose of this research is to investigate the characteristics of internal combustion (SI) engines fueled by gasoline and compressed natural gas (CNG) blends. The experiments are performed using a HONDA 4-stroke, single-cylinder, and air-cooled SI engine. Five CNG concentrations are evaluated, the concentrations range from 0.5 to 2.5 L/min with a 0.5 L/min …

Optimal Nonlinear Pid Speed Control Based On Harmony Search For An Electric Vehicle, Mohamed Shamseldin, Mohamed Abdel Ghany, Yahia Hendawey

the paper presents an efficient scheme for a Nonlinear PID (NPID) controller to improve the dynamic response of the Electric Vehicle (EV). The objective of the proposed controller is to track accurately the reference speed selected by the driver of the EV. A MATLAB/Simulink model is established and validated for the considered EV to study the system performance. The proposed NPID controller has been investigated by comparing it with the traditional PID controller. The optimal parameters of Both the NPID and PID controllers were obtained using the Harmony Search (HS) optimization technique based on a cost function. The desired rise …

A New Method Of Statcom Controlling For Harmonic Mitigation And Power Factor Correction, Doha Jdeed
Journal of the Arab American University مجلة الجامعة العربية الامريكية للبحوث
This paper presents a control algorithm of 3ph STATic synchronous COMpensator (STATCOM). The algorithm depends on the accurate reference currents extraction from only the nonlinear load current spec-trum in frequency domain using Fast Fourier Transfer (FFT). Then the determined harmonics and reactive components of load current are added together to form the compensating reference signals, the PI controllers then generate signals which control the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) method. The simulation of the study is carried out under MATLAB/Simulink environment to show the usefulness of this control algorithm with nonlin-ear dynamic loads. It determines exactly the phase shift between the …
