Hydraulic Sprayer Boom Upgrade, Chad R. Omlin Jan 2016

Hydraulic Sprayer Boom Upgrade, Chad R. Omlin

All Undergraduate Projects

Title and Author: Agriculture sprayer hydraulic boom upgrade by Chad Omlin (engineering Technologies, Safety, and Construction)

Abstract: Today’s agriculture industry is all about being the most efficient with your time, land, employees, and machinery. One thing that has made farming more efficient has been the use of hydraulics. Having a sprayer unit with manual booms is not being efficient with your time and/or employees. To make the sprayer unit more efficient, hydraulic cylinders were added. Sketched solutions were analyzed using statics and mechanics of materials principles. Drawings were completed for the successful analysis solutions. Solid works software was used to …

Design, Fabrication And Analysis Of An Auxiliary Power Unit On A Heavy-Duty Truck To Power The Hvac Systems Of The Truck During Driver Off-Duty Conditions, Rohan Milind Kalurkar Jan 2016

Design, Fabrication And Analysis Of An Auxiliary Power Unit On A Heavy-Duty Truck To Power The Hvac Systems Of The Truck During Driver Off-Duty Conditions, Rohan Milind Kalurkar

Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports

Currently, one of the biggest challenges the world is facing is energy insufficiency. One of the contributors to energy consumption in United States are the idling semi-trailer trucks. In May 2001, President Bush issued The National Energy Policy in which he directed The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) to reduce the idling of trucks. This was done in order to reduce energy consumption by lowering fuel consumption and emissions coming out of semi-trailer trucks in the United States of America.

This project deals with the efforts of installing an Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) as a device …

Design And Fabrication Of A Suspension Rig, Abhijith Geo Philip Jan 2016

Design And Fabrication Of A Suspension Rig, Abhijith Geo Philip

Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports

Owing to its placement under the vehicle body, the suspension system is one of the parts of the vehicle which are difficult to comprehend completely, albeit being a vital component. For demonstrating the working of a suspension system, a physical model in which one can actually see the movement of all the components would be a great tool. A Mustang II independent front suspension system was purchased from Heidts Engineering Performance and a rig that can emulate some of the real world situations of vehicle suspension action was designed and fabricated. All the components are accessible and conditions like bounce, …

Addressing New Skills Needed For The Automotive Industry Through A Motorsports Educational Pathway, Vukica M. Jovanovic, Mileta M. Tomovic, Alok K. Verma, Nathan Luetke, Steve Branch Jan 2015

Addressing New Skills Needed For The Automotive Industry Through A Motorsports Educational Pathway, Vukica M. Jovanovic, Mileta M. Tomovic, Alok K. Verma, Nathan Luetke, Steve Branch

Engineering Technology Faculty Publications

The automotive industry has higher-skilled positions available that need engineers and engineering technologists qualified and capable to work in a high-paced, advanced manufacturing sector. Various educational programs across the country offer programs related to the motorsports area at the Associate of Science level. There are also various articu-lation agreements that enable students to continue their education to the baccalaureate level. These programs try to fill in the gap related to the skills shortage in systems and new design methods and processes. The main strength of such educational pathways is that students, who are trained to work as technicians with an …

Binder Jet Additive Manufacturing Of Stainless Steel-Hydroxyapatite Bio-Composite, Don Suranga Dhanushka Uduwage Jan 2015

Binder Jet Additive Manufacturing Of Stainless Steel-Hydroxyapatite Bio-Composite, Don Suranga Dhanushka Uduwage

All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects

This study was conducted to create a bio-composite with a porous structure using the binder-jet printing additive manufacturing process. The samples were printed by changing the parameters such as layer thickness, roller speed, sintering time and sintering temperature of the X1-Lab binder jet additive manufacturing printer. The samples were printed 80% stainless steel 316 mixed with 20% Calcium Phosphate Tribasic by volume. Eight experiments were attempted to print according to the fractional factorial design of experiment. The effects of changing parameters on the mechanical properties of the new bio-composite was tested using ASTM E-09 compressive strength standards. The compression testing …

Why Toyota And Honda Topped The 2002 J.D. Power Quality Study, Susan Lightle, Kenneth Yale Rosenzweig, John Talbott Dec 2003

Why Toyota And Honda Topped The 2002 J.D. Power Quality Study, Susan Lightle, Kenneth Yale Rosenzweig, John Talbott

Accounting Faculty Publications

Toyota again topped the annual J. D. Power and Associates quality study released in late May of 2002. Toyota scored the highest mark ever with l 07 defects per l 00 vehicles, while Honda came in second with 113 defects. The study was based on responses of approximately 65,000 new car owners queried during their first 90-days of ownership.

These results do not surprise us, as we have been fortunate to make numerous sojourns to the Toyota plant in Georgetown, Kentucky, and observe the manufacturing processes. These trips were normally facilitated by a former Japanese student of ours, Minako Yanke, …

An Introduction To Web-Based Training For Statistical Process Control (Spc), Richard A. Juel Dec 1998

An Introduction To Web-Based Training For Statistical Process Control (Spc), Richard A. Juel

Graduate Research Papers

John Deere Waterloo Works had been using statistical process control in its manufacturing and assembly operations since the mid-nineteen seventies. Over the years this process had evolved from using hand-written paper control charts to using computer devices to collect data and generate charts. A variety of computer hardware and software products were being used. Training on statistical concepts and use of the various devices had deteriorated to the point that it was no longer a formal process. SPC training passed from one employee to another in the course of break-in to perform a specific job.

A team had been formed …

A Study Of The Manufacturing Costs Of Grille And Side Screens On John Deere Tractors, John M. Beierschmitt Apr 1993

A Study Of The Manufacturing Costs Of Grille And Side Screens On John Deere Tractors, John M. Beierschmitt

Graduate Research Papers

The problem discussed in this paper was the development of a process for the manufacture of a new, low cost, quality grille screen that previously had been made on conventional tooling, and now can not be made with the conventional process or tooling. The research comparison in this paper was done to show the financial advantage of this type of tooling.

An Investigation Into Manufacturing Quality Planning Concepts For New Manufactured Products With Recommendations For John Deere, Michael A. Henning Mar 1992

An Investigation Into Manufacturing Quality Planning Concepts For New Manufactured Products With Recommendations For John Deere, Michael A. Henning

Graduate Research Papers

President Bush was quoted in 19 90 saying, "The improvement of quality in products and the improvement in services -these are national priorities as never before." (National, 19 9 0). Leadership through quality was also called the new competitive frontier by David Keams, Chief Executive Officer of Xerox Corporation (DeToro, 198 7) and 198 9 winner of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. For a manufacturing organization like Xerox a quality product is the result of many factors. Other corporations have come to the same realization of the importance of quality throughout their operations (Crosby, 19 9 1). He pointed …
