Research outputs 2022 to 2026
The effect of oscillation on the water distribution in unsaturated coal and iron ores plays a significant role in the material processing but has not been analysed quantitatively. This paper developed a model based on the Richards equation to describe the transient residual water distribution in the unsaturated coal and iron ores, and predicted the separated water with time. In this model, the effect of oscillation was quantised as a dynamic potential of the unsaturated water. The model was experimentally verified and applied to characterise the separated and residual water. The effects of initial water content, hydraulic conductivity, dynamic potential …

Flexural Strengthening Of Rc Slabs Using Near Surface Mounted Gfrp Bars, Sama Taha
Flexural Strengthening Of Rc Slabs Using Near Surface Mounted Gfrp Bars, Sama Taha
Theses and Dissertations
Glass Fiber reinforced polymers (GFRPs) have been recently successfully used to increase reinforced concrete elements' strength. In general, FRPs have many advantages such as resistance to corrosion, and high strength-to-weight ratio. On the other hand, debonding from concrete may constitute a limitation to using GFRP bars; hence the increase in strength of RC elements strengthened using GFRP bars may be limited by this premature debonding failure mechanism.
This study aims to investigate the strengthening effect of GFRP bars on the capacity of RC slabs when subject to flexure loading. The work studies the use of different bonding lengths, diameters and …

Numerical Investigation Of Proppant Transport At Hydraulic-Natural Fracture Intersection, Duo Wang, Zhenjiang You, Min Wang, Qi Li, Lei Wu
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
The transport mechanism of particles at fracture intersection is numerically studied by the coupled lattice Boltzmann-discrete element methods. First, the numerical method is validated via a benchmark test of the relative suspension viscosity. Second, a comprehensive parametric study on proppant transport through a T-junction is performed. The impacts of various parameters, including particle concentration, particle size, the Reynolds number and the fracture intersection angle are investigated. The results show that the proppant leak-off ratio decreases with particle concentration due to retardation and the Reynolds number due to inertial migration, and increases with fracture aperture. Particularly, the results also reveal a …

Acetate Solutions With 3.9 V Electrochemical Stability Window As An Electrolyte For Low-Cost And High-Performance Aqueous Sodium-Ion Batteries, Dao-Yun Lan, Xiao-Feng Qu, Yu-Ting Tang, Li-Ying Liu, Jun Liu
Journal of Electrochemistry
Low-cost and high-safety aqueous sodium-ion batteries have received widespread attention in the field of large-scale energy storage, but the narrow electrochemical stability window (1.23 V) of water limits the energy density of aqueous sodium-ion batteries. The “water-in-salt” strategy which uses the interaction between cations and water molecules in the solution can inhibit water decomposition and broaden the electrochemical stability window of water. In this work, two types of low-cost salts, namely, ammonium acetate (NH4CH3COOH) and sodium acetate (NaCH3COOH), were used to configure a mixed aqueous electrolyte for aqueous sodium-ion batteries. The solution consisted of …

Lithium-rich manganese-based cathode materials have become one of promising cathode materials due to their low cost and large discharge specific capacity exceeding 250 mAh·g-1. However, their problems such as low coulombic efficiency of first cycle and apparent voltage decay influence commercialization process. The high charging voltage will cause instability of structure and increase the hidden danger of the battery. Therefore, structural evolution of first cycle at higher voltage needs to be further studied. In this work, the precursor was synthesized by the co-precipitation method, and the lithium-rich manganese-based layered cathode materials were prepared by lithium-mixed and high-temperature sintering, …

The electrochemical carbon dioxide reduction reaction (CO2RR) is a promising approach to produce liquid fuels and industrial chemicals by utilizing intermittent renewable electricity for mitigating environmental problems. However, the traditional H-type reactor seriously limits the electrochemical performance of CO2RR due to the low CO2 solubility in electrolyte, and high ohmic resistance caused by the large distance between two electrodes, which is unbeneficial for industrial application. Herein, we demonstrated a high-performance continuous flow membranes electrode assembly (MEA) reactor based on a self-growing Cu/Sn bimetallic electrocatalyst in 0.5 mol·L-1 KHCO3 for converting CO2 to …
