A Machine Learning Method For The Prediction Of Melt Pool Geometries Created By Laser Powder Bed Fusion, Jonathan Ciaccio
A Machine Learning Method For The Prediction Of Melt Pool Geometries Created By Laser Powder Bed Fusion, Jonathan Ciaccio
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
A machine learning model is created to predict melt pool geometries of Ti-6Al-4V alloy created by the laser powder bed fusion process. Data is collected through an extensive literature survey, using results from both experiments and CFD modeling. The model focuses on five key input parameters that influence melt pool geometries: laser power, scanning speed, spot size, powder density, and powder layer thickness. The two outputs of the model are melt pool width and melt pool depth. The model is trained and tested by using the k fold cross validation technique. Multiple regression models are then applied to find the …

A Gis-Swmm System To Evaluate Low Impact Development (Lid) Feature Effectiveness On Uno's Campus, Demetria C. Christo
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
The EPA’s Storm Water Management Model (SWMM) includes the ability to model low impact development (LID) systems involving various types of green infrastructure (GI) for stormwater detention and infiltration.
The SWMM model requires hydrologic attribute inputs for individual subcatchments, including percent impervious surfaces, surface roughness, depression storage, and curve number. These SWMM attributes can be more accurately, consistently, and efficiently be defined in GIS by calculating the subcatchment area-weighted attribute values and importing them to SWMM. Thus, GIS becomes a valuable pre-processing input tool for SWMM-LID modeling.
The three objectives of this thesis are to 1) use GIS geoprocessing tools …

LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
This thesis analyzes the effects of the angle of heel and beam-to-draft ratio on the sectional added mass of primitive cross-sectional shapes in regular harmonic waves in the frequency domain using 2-D boundary element method for uncoupled heave, sway, and roll motion. This 2-D boundary element method uses the patch method developed by Söding (1993b) [4] to compute the added mass of asymmetric geometry. The angles of heel used varied from 0 to 90 degrees in 5-degree intervals, while the beam-to-draft ratios varied from B/T = 0.5 to B/T = 3.0 in half increments. Triangles, rectangles, and rectangles with rounded …

Parallel Approach Of Adaptive Image Thresholding Algorithm On Gpu, Adhi Prahara, Andri Pranolo, Nuril Anwar, Yingchi Mao
Knowledge Engineering and Data Science
Image thresholding is used to segment an image into background and foreground using a given threshold. The threshold can be generated using a specific algorithm instead of a pre-defined value obtained from observation or experiment. However, the algorithm involves per pixel operation, histogram calculation, and iterative procedure to search the optimum threshold that is costly for high-resolution images. In this research, parallel implementations on GPU for three adaptive image thresholding methods, namely Otsu, ISODATA, and minimum cross-entropy, were proposed to optimize their computational times to deal with high-resolution images. The approach involves parallel reduction and parallel prefix sum (scan) techniques …

Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Silicon (Si)-based optoelectronics have gained traction due to its primed versatility at developing light-based technologies. Si, however, features indirect bandgap characteristics and suffers relegated optical properties compared to its III-V counterparts. III-Vs have also been hybridized to Si platforms but the resulting technologies are expensive and incompatible with standard complementary-metal-oxide-semiconductor processes. Germanium (Ge), on the other hand, have been engineered to behave like direct bandgap material through tensile strain interventions but are well short of attaining extensive wavelength coverage. To create a competitive material that evades these challenges, transitional amounts of Sn can be incorporated into Ge matrix to form …

This thesis describes measurements on hybrid material systems involving two dimensional (2D) materials and phenomena along with the development of a small, hermetically sealed cell. The hermetic cell is designed to assist with analyzing sensitive 2D materials outside of an inert environment. When working with van der Waals materials that are especially sensitive to oxygen or water, it can be difficult to identify usable thin flakes without exposing them to air. To help preserve materials for analysis in air, a capsule was designed that isolates the material in an inert environment. Although the capsule is hermetically sealed, the encapsulated material …
Optimization Of Nitrogen Removal Rate In One-Stage Reactor Through Partial Nitrification Anammox Process During Direct Treatment Of Poultry Litter Wastewater, Yiting Xiao
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Anammox is an increasingly common process used for the treatment of reject water and even mainstream wastewater due to its low oxygen demand. However, anammox is not commonly utilized in the direct treatment of poultry litter because of the high organic content, which would inhibit the anammox process. Thus, this project is aimed at optimizing the nitrogen removal rate through partial nitrification anammox process (PN/A) to treat synthetic poultry litter wastewater. Nitrogen removal efficiencies will therefore be improved through optimizing the combination of three operating parameters including hydraulic retention time (HRT), dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration, and carbon to nitrogen (C/N) …

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Electric vehicles (EVs) offer considerable economic and environmental benefits to society. Despite the decreasing vehicle costs and increasing range of newer EVs, the problem of range anxiety still exists. Range anxiety, at its core, is an issue of charging speeds rather than a concern about the driving range. Dynamic wireless charging of EVs is seen as a potential solution to this issue of range anxiety. Further, wireless charging technology also helps the push towards level 5 autonomy and opens new opportunities for how an EV can be utilized.
Dynamic wireless power transfer (DWPT) systems typically require a high initial investment …

Bioengineering Theses - Archive
Rotator cuff tendon injuries and tear are caused by overuse, falling, or other accidents, and are often associated with old age. The severe injuries and tear can be debilitating and require nonsurgical treatment for partial tear and arthroscopic surgery for complete tear. The frequent location of injuries and tear are at the enthesis region, the interface where the tendon tissue gradually hardens and merges into the bone. Although aging has been identified as an important factor for rotator cuff tendon injuries and tear, how the mechanical properties of the bone-tendon complex evolve along with age is still a knowledge gap. …
