This current method can be an abstract task and relies on …
Assessing Risk In Iot Devices, David Levitsky
Assessing Risk In Iot Devices, David Levitsky
Master's Theses
The explosive growth of the Internet of Things ecosystem has thrust these devices into the center of our lives. Unfortunately, the desire to create these devices has been stronger than the one to secure them. Recent attacks have shown us ignoring security in Internet of Things devices can cause severe harm in both a digital and physical sense. This thesis outlines a framework for developers and managers to assess the risk of IoT devices using a weighted scoring system across five different categories. Our case studies suggest that devices with higher security considerations have a better security posture and lower …
Micro-Nozzle Simulation And Test For An Electrothermal Plasma Thruster, Tyler J. Croteau
Micro-Nozzle Simulation And Test For An Electrothermal Plasma Thruster, Tyler J. Croteau
Master's Theses
With an increased demand in Cube Satellite (CubeSat) development for low cost science and exploration missions, a push for the development of micro-propulsion technology has emerged, which seeks to increase CubeSat capabilities for novel mission concepts. One type of micro-propulsion system currently under development, known as Pocket Rocket, is an electrothermal plasma micro-thruster.
Pocket Rocket uses a capacitively coupled plasma, generated by radio-frequency, in order to provide neutral gas heating via ion-neutral collisions within a gas discharge tube. When compared to a cold-gas thruster of similar size, this gas heating mechanism allows Pocket Rocket to increase the exit thermal velocity …
Investigating The Effect Of An Upstream Spheroid On Tandem Hydrofoils, Joel Tynan Guerra
Investigating The Effect Of An Upstream Spheroid On Tandem Hydrofoils, Joel Tynan Guerra
Master's Theses
This thesis documents a series of three dimensional unsteady Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes CFD simulations used to investigate the influence of an upstream prolate spheroid body on tandem pitching hydrofoils. The model is validated by performing separate CFD simulations on the body and pitching hydrofoils and comparing results to existing experimental data. The simulations were run for a range of Strouhal numbers (0.2-0.5) and phase differences (0-π). Results were compared to identical simulations without an upstream body to determine how the body affects thrust generation and the unsteady flow field.
The combined time-averaged thrust increases with Strouhal number, and is highest …

Metastatic melanoma is an aggressive skin cancer with a relatively low survival rate. Immune-based therapies have shown promise in the treatment of melanoma, but overall complete response rates are still low. Previous studies have demonstrated the potential of plasmid IL-12 (pIL-12) delivered by gene electrotransfer (GET) to be an effective immunotherapy for melanoma. However, events occurring in the tumor microenvironment following delivery have not been delineated. Therefore, utilizing a B16F10 mouse melanoma model, we evaluated changes in the tumor microenvironment following delivery of pIL-12 using different GET parameters or injection of plasmid alone. The results revealed a unique immune cell …
Proposed Router And Switch Design With Introduction Of Buffering To Reduce Retransmission Cost By Reducing Bandwidth And Time Of Corrupt Packet, Manoj R. Chakravarthi
Proposed Router And Switch Design With Introduction Of Buffering To Reduce Retransmission Cost By Reducing Bandwidth And Time Of Corrupt Packet, Manoj R. Chakravarthi
Manipal Journal of Science and Technology
A new design of router and switch is proposed in this paper to decrease the unnecessary wastage of transmission bandwidth capacity because of retransmission of corrupt or lost packets. A buffer memory is joined to every router and switch. Every one of the packets that go through a router is stored in the buffer memory for a short time. On the off-chance that a packet is discarded at any router, it tends to be asked from the past router, which has a duplicate of the packet in its buffer. Through our approach, we spare a great deal of data transmission …

Gabias Epitaxial Thin Films For Quantum Well Solar Cells, K K Nagaraja
Manipal Journal of Science and Technology
Resonant tunneling structures aid the effective extraction of charge carriers form deeper quantum wells. However, the need for aligning both the valance and electron subbands further complicates the process. The difference in the electron-hole confinement in GaBiAs can ease some of the design problems. Herein, we report the preliminary results on the growth of GaBiAs thin films. The films are grown by using the molecular beam epitaxy (MBE), and the structural and optical characterizations are carried out by high resolution XRD (HRXRD), and low temperature photoluminescence (PL), respectively. PL spectra confirms the formation of GaBiAs. The percentage of Bi in …

Real-Time Heuristics And Metaheuristics For Static And Dynamic Weapon Target Assignments, Alexander G. Kline
Real-Time Heuristics And Metaheuristics For Static And Dynamic Weapon Target Assignments, Alexander G. Kline
Theses and Dissertations
The problem of targeting and engaging individual missiles (targets) with an arsenal of interceptors (weapons) is known as the weapon target assignment problem. This problem has been well-researched since the seminal work in 1958. There are two distinct categories of the weapon target assignment problem: static and dynamic. The static weapon target assignment problem considers a single instance in which a known number of incoming missiles is to be engaged with a finite number of interceptors. By contrast, the dynamic weapon target assignment problem considers either follow on engagement(s) should the first engagement(s) fail, a subsequent salvo of incoming missiles, …
Experimental And Computational Analysis Of The Interaction Of Carbon And Silicon Ablation Products In Expanding Hypersonic Flows, Brian E. Donegan
Experimental And Computational Analysis Of The Interaction Of Carbon And Silicon Ablation Products In Expanding Hypersonic Flows, Brian E. Donegan
Theses and Dissertations
Thermal protection is required for vehicles entering planetary atmospheres to protect against the severe heating loads experienced. Characterization of candidate materials is often done utilizing plasma or arc-jet facilities, which provide steady-state testing of the thermal environments experienced during hypersonic flight, but do not correctly simulate hypersonic flowfields. Conversely, impulse facilities can reproduce flight velocities and enthalpies but have extremely short test times, prohibiting testing of thermal response. Modeling ablation and heating rates, particularly in the wake region, remains a significant challenge due to the complexity of the flowfield. To better understand this complex phenomenon and provide data to validate …

Integrated Compressive Sensing And Feature Descriptors- A Framework For Facial Recognition Systems, Ali Kadhem Jaber
Dissertations
Facial recognition is still a challenge in many applications, particularly in surveillance, security systems, and human-computer interactive (HCI) tools. The impact of real-world environmental variations on the performance of any facial recognition system can be significant. These variations may include illumination, facial expressions, poses, disguises (facial hair, glasses or cosmetics) and partial face occlusion. Furthermore, the number of images (samples) needed for facial recognition systems can be very large, much larger than what is typically required by an algorithm, and this is often made worse with expansion of the feature space dimensionality. Truly, the “curse of dimensionality” haunts any real-time …
